She knew her stuff! She gave us projective Identification. We see it a lot in character disorders today. They don't have to speak their behavior tells us volumes. Object relations was always my favorite.

Some good points, but it is all explained by attachment theory (bowlby) much better. A lot of the same dynamics at play, but nothing to do with hunger or milk. We are emotional and memory based animals who rely heavily on the face and other non verbals for communication. Between the age of 12-18 months, children have already developed an attachment style which has been proven to be relatively stable. Infants are right brain oriented initially, and i believe the left brain moves into more rapid growth around age 3. Our brains are both vertically and hemispherically oriented. The 90's were the decade of the brain and attachment theory is the theory of development with the most scientific validity.

Klein says that bottle feeding from birth can still allow for the introjection of a good breast (or phenomena of the good breast). She suggests this is because the infant is born with an endogenous memory that supports the maternal connection.

this breast theory.... doesnt quite make total sense imo... cuz its saying theres no ability for the baby to have a sense of this expectant trust that the breast will return time and time again... i feel there would have to be an initial truama where the breast did not provide milk for a long enuf time for the baby to then develop anxiety that it will not return...but this is not natural when times are good and mothers milk is flowing cuz she is able to eat enuf etc...
