This might be the best Apocalyptic film ever made. The stress and anxiety of that planet just being seen made it a horror movie to me.

It's scary because it could be real. And in such an event there is no way out for sure and nothing count anymore but you in front of the end.

Yes especially when the ‘disaster’ is bigger than the whole of earth its self There is no where to run to Nothing to be done In many ways no reason to panic, because it’s already over So horrifying!

The use of classical music, ultra slow motion captures, makes it extremely emotional and the mind blowing opening sequence. This film is just my favourite of Lars von Trier.

Is a good movie, but Nymphomaniac's been more engaging for me.

Beautiful and touching. The inescapable reality of death. We are NOT immortal. We will die. Realizing this fact can be depressing for an ego that thought it will live forever, or it can be profoundly liberating and transform completely the way we live here in this reality, making every moment precious and sacred. Excellent video!Congratulations!I've watched "Melancholia" a few years ago and I didn't really like it but I think I will give it a second chance.I've watched "Breaking the Waves" a few times.It's probably my favourite Von Trier film!

Even in the apocalypse, humans cannot help but be self-involved.

The end of the world symbolizes the world crashing down around Justine. Her world changes forever, and she just accepts it.

Hm. I really like this analysis, I just think there's a lot more to look at here, especially when talking about justine her feelings and the things that are put on her. I think the director had characters put specific pressures that at the end for example might have made her more accepting. I'm not sure though that's why I'm going through analysis's looking hahaha. I think in a similar situation I will do the same, spendind the last moments of my life next to the peoples I really love. In the movie the two sisters and the boy are the true family, same blood, unbreakable bond. The husbands of both of them vanished before that strong bond together with any other people around them.

Sometimes an actual event or a film will bring up the idea of an apocalyptic fate the entire earth could face. I do care about my family, myself, etc., but I really concentrate on the entire earth , all it's inhabitants, animals, fauna, etc. being wiped out, Never to come back. The end of all life on earth and what an epic tragedy that is. Beyond belief. Millions of years gone and all that entails. It would cripple me if that scenario happened. One death is conceivable, but an entire planet and all it has been or ever will be, is beyond comprehension. And, we don't know IF there could be such an event in earths future . But, we are also aware that we could destroy the earth, from within. And we really need to ensure we save our planet, for the future.

Earth will die too, as the sun and every star in the universe. Everything will turn into nothing one day, no matter what we do. Our brain can't handle that unless we are depressed that the message of the film

I can't wait for all life to go extinct. The destruction of all life wouldn't be a tragedy, the beginning of life is a true tragedy. It made all these beings capable of immense suffering, and oh boy there is a lot of suffering in these pathetic world

At the end this film teaches us all that we are mortal and there is no scape for death no meter your religion or social status that we are in this planet just for a limited time and we have to learn to accept that reality in the end we all have a Melancholia inside us.

I've been wondering too but all I could think right now is that the child represents reality. Like death is normal and there is nothing we can do about it, and when we pass away, the world goes on like nothing happened no matter how scary it might seem for the ones experiencing it (like the two women).

It made no sense that the husband John would kill himself with pills given how interested he was with the unfolding event. Why not wait for it and witness it? Probably a quicker end than destroying your heart and liver.

I thought this movie was very good, but was SO pissed off that they showed the collision at the beginning of the movie. It would have been SO much better for US to not know what was going to happen. It was just like how mad people got when someone would ruin the ending of the sixth sense for them...

I think Justine is not depressed. She s seen as odd by the silly society and her sister is part of the establishment. Justine is sane and bright and so is her nephew.

no, this film actually is 💯 % about depression, and it was written from the director perspective as he suffered from depression him self, so the film is more likely about the director him self, as he trying to emphasise how depression looks like, and he did a great job.
