Mel Waiters - Got My Whiskey
Музыка
MEL WAITERS:
25 June 1956, San Antonio, Texas, USA. Waiters sang in R&B clubs while in his teens, later also singing in a church choir. He spent some time as a disc jockey on local radio, meanwhile continuing to perform whenever opportunities arose and was fortunate to be offered regular work singing at military bases. Waiters began attracting wider audiences on the R&B circuit and in 1996 and again two years later he won the Jackson Music Award. He enjoyed chart success with 'Hit It And Quit It' from his 1995 debut I'm Serious. Another important single success was 'Got My Whiskey' from his third album, Woman In Need.
Influenced primarily by Teddy Pendergrass, Waiters' smooth vocal style and his leaning towards slow, soulful ballads continued to bring him steadily more attention and his fourth album Material Things made the Billboard Top 100 R&B charts. The attendant single 'Hole In The Wall' was also a big seller. Among other hit singles have been 'Man Shoes', 'Show You How To Love Again', 'How Can I Get Next To You' and 'The Smaller The Club'. Relaxed and unpretentious, Waiters' material and his approach to it has made him a popular and much-heard radio attraction.

Whether I’m in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and back home in Florida. This jam is a staple at every cookout, seafood boil, MLK events, tailgating, family reunions, and many more.

My dad passed away on 11/7/2020…I am a bonified , Louisiana blues infused child of the South. Whenever this song came on my dad would want to 2 step and twirl to this song. I haven’t gone out “to the club” since his passing and a much longer time since then… on the above mentioned date, I was beyond shocked to hear THIS song… when I decided to “go out and celebrate my birthday…5/17/2022… I had to immediately run to the DJ and THANK HIM for playing this song in his rotation…I felt my fathers presence and it was from a place of peace. Reassuring me, that HE was AT PEACE🕊. To those who have lost a loved one’s passing, don’t be discouraged or dismayed…your LOVED ONE is at peace…reassuring is that ALL IS WELL… be Blessed ♥️.

I grew up with Mr. Waiters in San Antonio, Texas. He was a true Southern Gentleman. He was best friends with my cousin Lil Willie (RIP), who lived in the East Terrace, a residential complex. Mr. Waiters left a great legacy for us by the way he carried himself and his awesome music. I still can't believe he is gone.
