im definitely new to this side of the industry, im a super DIYer, ive painted many cars and always relied on laying down the smoothest paint possible. for the first time ever, after repaintng my project car, i decided to cut it down with sand paper, thinking 1k and 2k wet sand was practically enough. to my own expectation, 2k wetsand with just wax over was better than what i expected. BUT i never realized how in depth these scratches could be! i accidentally found this video and it was exactly what ive been thinking about in the back of my mind. Excellent review. i was here for the process more so the product and just wow.

I have used this product for years and it continues to perform with excellent results for me. I've used it on new auto paint, hand polishing nitrocellulose lacquer on musical instruments and on plastic headlights to de-fog. In every case I'll start out with several stages of sanding ending in 2000, then hit it with the polisher and this product. It's great.

I noticed temperature is key with compounds. Like the 3M perfect it polishes don't dust much when its 80F or so. But when its 95-100F+ forget it, it'll be dusting after 1 minute all over the place unless you keep spraying on a detailer product as you go or something.

Hi Brian. Recently subscribed to your channel. Loving all the info and thorough product reviews. I recently started out in detailing and have learnt the basics through you tube. I used ultimate compound with my griots g9 polisher on my 18 month old black Hyundai ioniq. I followed up with meguiars ultimate polish. Chemical guys blacklight glaze and meguiars ultimate liquid wax. The gloss is off the charts. However I still have swirl marks. Obviously I am new at this but I am wondering if I should get a more aggressive compound and are my expectations too high. Sorry I didnt know how to send you this directly. Thanks again for all the info on your channel.

As someone who does autobody. The way you sanded that fender you put some serious finger scratches into that panel regardless of grit paper. Not sure if that was on purpose or not but it takes a lot to get out finger scratches. Re sanding would have been a more realistic test especially for an over the counter product. Unless of course you used a heavy duty compound which wouldn't be so user friendly. Honestly I wouldn't have wasted my time even trying to polish those scratches out because even if you make it shinny those finger scratches are still there and once the product fades you will see those scratches all over again.

Hey Brian thanks for the info and good video. I'm a beginner at paint correction. I bought a car that has quite a bit of overspray. I used a 2000 grit sandpaper on a small area and it smoothed out and removed the overspray. My question is can I just use a cutting pad with an orbital and this ultimate compound to remove the overspray? And then finish with a polish and wax or is it prudent to wet sand the vehicle prior to compound cutting? I've tried chemical guys clay bar and it is not aggressive enough to remove this overspray. Any advice? TIA!

My front bumper has paint/clear fading. Now I have used ultimate compound and after the ultimate polish. I have a rotary polisher. I'm scared of literally burning through the clear and paint, so I do back and forth movements but I don't stay too long on the bumper. It does the job at removing the fading pretty good. But my problem is that the fading comes back pretty quick after rain or even if I don't wax it right after. My front bumper need some help. Am I doing something wrong. Should I be more patient on the compound and work it slower on the paint? Or should I go slower on my ''back and forth" movement to polish? I mean it does the job on the spot, but a couple days after, the fading comes back. I'm out of solution and the rest of the car looks real good. Only the front bumper is taking the corrosion and all the fading. I know heat dissipation is different on the plastic vs metal, but I'm about to go super aggressive on this bumper. What do you think ?

Apex Detail did the truck with a DA polisher and the boat with the Rotary for a little while. That rotary jerk me all over the place. I use the pads that came with the rotary which are like egg crate. I probably had something to do with it. So I ended up finishing the boat out with the da polisher as well

Yes the pad selection is crucial when it comes to the rotary. Lake Country blue and purple synthetic as well as the low lint white pads are the way to go.

Apex Detail I'll give them a shot. For the da polisher I've been using Chemical Guys hexpad with the hole in the center. I we'll certainly order a few of the Lake Country pads for my 7 inch rotary backing plate. I got to admit though if this thing throws me around like it did last time. I will have to go to the gym for a little while first and then try it again later. I know I'm not telling you anything but with the Rotary polishing the side of a boat it's hard to hold the pad completely flat and if you do not that machine just runs up down back forth very hard to control

is that true we do not often use meguiars ultimate compound? because it can scrape paint thickness. So many people recommend to use meguiars ultimate compound in six month, but not until six month some swirl mark appears in car body. Can u give some advice for me

Thank you for this great video. Meguiar's has three products that seems to have similar functions: 1) Scratch-X 2) Ultimate compound 3) and Ultimate polish. So which one is the most abrasive and which is the least? I am imagining that scratch-X is most abrasive and the polish least - I have all of them but I feel like they work best on different sections! Any advice on the difference between these three will help! thanks !

Least aggressive is Ultimate Polish (it's even finer than their M210). Next is ScratchX, then Ultimate Compound. With pad choice, Ultimate Polish can do some cutting. I have done a lot of "one step' polish services with Ultimate Polish on green Hex Logic pads, and a Porter Cable 7424xp polisher.

Hi Brian. Thank you for your videos. I just got into detailing a couple of years ago. I am an enthusiasts and Your videos have really assisted me in really taking what I thought I knew to another level. Yesterday I was able to grab my brothers neglected 2017 black Camaro. I started with a thorough wash and Decontamination. Then jumped in using the Megs ultimate compound utilizing a DA and foam cut pad. This product and method did a great job. The only problem for me was I was running out of time. I still needed to polish and wax. My bro needed his car back and was giving me a hard time. I planned on using the Megs finish polish and protect with ethos ceramic wax. So I skipped the polish and went right to the Ethos wax. The car came out amazing. Will I experience any disadvantages with the clear by not polishing?? Let me know your thoughts. Thank you! -Rich

Samuel Adams i think that’s going to leave a hase. If you have very light swirls i would use the ultimate polish from Meg’s if they’re heavier swirls just use both starting with the compound and finishing off with the polish before waxing

@@soosgame2293Yep, sometims a two step is unavoidable. Ultimate Polish on a good cut pad makes for a great one step before adding protection. The green Hex Logic is the pad I use most for that. If Im finishing, or removing light oxidation/towel marks I use the blue Hex Logic. Underrated, and overlooked polish.

Not enough aggression to cut.. try a microfiber application pad or even a MF towel instead.. rub hard and fast until your arm gets tired.. wipe away and repeat several times. If several rounds of hand compounding still don't cut, you're going to need more aggressive products and/or equipment to do the job. Good luck!
