And I’d venture to say there never will be. Virtuosity at every turn. That first album is untouchable. There will never be a gifted rhythm/lead/songwriter pissed off and on fire like that again. Add in Ellefson, Samuelson, and especially Chris fucking(!) Poland, place it all within the heavy metal evolution of the mid 80s...and the deal is sealed.

Man I used to think Menza was the best they ever had, but after really listening to the first few albums again for like the millionth time I finally got it. Yes, Gar was better, because his timing was groovier. I still think Menza was more technical but on feel and fit alone, Gar is their best.

Gar was like a fuckin octopus behind a drum kit. A jazz drummer playing thrash and absolutely killing it! Gar and Chris Poland were so tight from playing jazz music before Megadeth that at times the rhythm section while Dave plays leads is absolutely incredible. This era of Megadeth is by far the best. The Rust in Peace lineup was great, but the band in this video was the real Megadeth. That’s exactly why all the way up to The System has Failed, Mustaine kept trying to get Chris back into Megadeth. Even Mustaine knew Chris was the best guitar player he’d ever hired.
