He was definitely high. 1989 was a pretty out of control year for him. That was also the same year that he went in to rehab for the first time.

I was born in 1986 so didn't see this or any MTV until about 1998. Dave didn't get clean until 1999 so he was still using in 1989. Im glad Dave conquered his demons. Interesting video!

He could have got clean in 89 and relapsed. It's common in drug users, especially drugs like heroin

He didn't get clean until 1992, then relapsed in 1995, and got clean again onwards. Jr. got clean in 1990.

RIGHT before Marty Friedman and the masterful comeback in the form of Rust in Peace.

This was a great interview! Dave's a very articulate and bright guy who gives interesting & insightful answers. You can tell he's getting his act together and straightened out, right here. Sure, he relapsed a couple of times in the 90s, but late 1989 was a major turning point: new bandmembers, new vision, new music and new lifestyle. If Dave and Megadeth never got off drugs, changed management and bandmembers at that very moment, I doubt they would have went on to have the success they had and still do have in the present day (March 2024). Late 1989 was a crucial time for the band.

Sometimes I really can't believe how great MTV once was and how thrash it has become

It was awesome. I had my vhs programmed to record headbangers ball and I had my Pioneer XL speakers hooked up to my vhs. Of course I had an annoying blinking equalizer set on a quite heavy bass. It was like christmas coming home after sports weekend late sunday evening. Mega tired but still just had to watch some of it before passing out in bed. Those where the days. 33 years ago 😮😊

Mr. Vian is this the same 1990 episode that has The Almighty's Guide To Glasgow on it where the band go to "The Venue" a rock club in Glasgow ? There was a clip on KZread a few years ago but it got taken down since. Too bad you didn't record full episodes of this show.

Because I have another opinion than you do (that must be tough for you) then you call me a poser and a faggot, even though you don't have the slightest idea of who I am, or my relation to music. Lars and Hetfield formed Metallica. Without Dave Mustaine the band would probably still exist. A song light "Hit the Lights" for example was written before Dave was in the band. Metallica did fine after Dave Mustaine was kicked out, and Dave did fine after being kicked out. I like both bands. They're different but great. So no, you did not correct me. You wrote your own subjective, and objectively wrong opinion. Then you insulted me instead of arguing for your case. And before you're going to reply something in the lines of that I am "butthurt", and that you hurt my feelings. Not even close. I don't really care. I'm not the one acting like I am 16. You are.
