I particularly like how "videogame music" is not defined by boundaries of genre and other limitations. It's one of the most "pure" forms of music that I know.

They usually stick to a genre though, like mmx series is clearly rock/metal based, most cinematic first person story games are orchestral, and indie games tend to lean towards electronic genres

Video game music _[VGOST]_ has a special place in my heart as well, but I certainly wouldn't call it the greatest. The Mega Man X series has, for better or worse, grown more towards the fusion-rock vibes over the course of the series. It initially started out sounding closest to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal _[NWOBHM]_ (minus a few strong contenders for rock as opposed to metal). Old school _VGOST_ especially the compositions out of Japan have the strength of being well composed melodies. The negative side of that fact is that because these compositions are suppose to be background music as opposed to active listening experiences, the composers do not HAVE to labor intensely to craft intricate variations on, say, leitmotifs, as a film score composer would be expected to. The result is that VGOST, even the oldschool, suffers from a perpetual problem that I like to call: "the loop". My favorite tunes from that era are basically 45 seconds to a minute and a half long if you get rid of "the loop". The one beautiful trade-off regarding "the loop", is that it is up to youTubers (such as this channel) like this fellow to find creative ways to make the short tunes into something longer and still entertaining. ChequerChequer has opted for the medley-route, which is a good choice. Others have opted to find slight variations in the arrangement themselves OR add their own unique guitar solo to the fray. It is up to creators to transform "the loop" into a strength instead of a weakness and it's a glorious challenge to overcome.

@@brianbergmusic5288 But yeah, agree 100%. I've grew up listening to rock music and I could even say that I made life decisions with rock music in mind, or influenced by it. But now that I'm finding more of this wonderful world of videogame music I find myself more and more bored with the old Rock albums I listened to, half of them I can't come back to. Recent Rock releases started to sound so dull, boring and predictable (let alone 90% of rock songs talking about depressing or self-harming subject matter) I find myself coming more and more to videogame music when I want to truly enjoy something for the ART of it and to be impressed with some of the innovations in it, how VGM music breaks boundaries of genre, etc. That's is fascinating to me.

The Bubble Crab theme, absolute perfection.

The X2 Battle With Zero bit might be the best rendition of it I've heard

Eu acabei de masterizar esse jogo no retroachievements e tô com uma sensação muito boa. Eu nunca tinha jogado o x2 até o momento, sem saber que esse viria a ser o Mega Man, dos que eu já joguei, que é o meu favorito. Trilha incrível, bom demais Chequer!
