@@turtleguyfan That doesn't make sense, he liked her so if he knew she liked him then why would he intentionally reject her advances? The only logical explanation for that is naivety, he didn't realize she was hitting on him. There is no reason to be nervous if he knew she liked him back. I guess you could say he's scared of sexual intimacy because he's too young and naive to understand what that means. His inexperience with women is obvious.

I love symbolism part where she gets poked by the cupid 2:01 but unlike a basic cartoon, Meg looks back at the Cupid and has a second of thought "Did I just get hit by a Cupid???" one of the few times where a cartoon character understands their own symbolism.

One of my favorite things about Hercules and Meg is that you actually get to see them doing this sort of thing, more relaxed activities that real people do to gauge interest in each other. So many Disney couples just go on a grand big adventure with each other and decide they’re in love, but these two actually go through the early phases of their attraction realistically. I find them far easier to accept as a couple than a lot of the Disney protagonists’ relationships.

Yessss! I love that they go on a normal date! Go see a play and then walk in a park. And it isn’t a hostage or forced date like Beauty and the Beast. Even Eugene and Rapunzel… her deal was for him to show her the lanterns. Herc and Meg had a spark, and while manipulated through Hades, both wanted this date.

@@lh9591 You could see the spark for sure. Although Meg tried seducing Hercules for Hades, they then have that genuine conversation by the fountain. Herc's interest in Meg is so genuine that she couldn't help but be flattered. And when they tried kissing before Phil and Pegasus showed up, Herc was the one to initiate that kiss attempt and she was trying to reason why they shouldn't kiss (cuz she didn't want to hurt him), but she was going in to kiss him as well cuz it was what she wanted.

3:04 I love this part, it’s cute. Usually in scenes like this, it’s the girl that kisses the boy on the cheek, here, it’s the exact opposite and I love that!

the most amazing thing about this scene is that it starts with Hercules insulting Meg's prino (EDIPO is her cousin)

I don't understand why people consider Meg to be 'strong'. Meg herself states that she is 'petty and dishonest' 1:41, she even looks at her own reflection after saying those words. She merely wears a facade that she is 'strong' on the surface while being broken and insecure on the inside.

She is strong in that towards the end, she stands up for her beliefs against the villain, forsaking her soul for the sake of doing the right thing. Even up until that point, even when in danger, she doesn't freak out like a typical damsel. She instead retains a cool head.

She’s been hurt before and tries not to let her guard down again since the last time she did something selfless, the one she made a sacrifice for screwed her over. She doesn’t lie to herself on who she is but we understand why and comes to the realization she’s stronger than she thinks when she eventually tries to keep Hercules from making deals with Hades and then dies for him breaking that very deal. That is strength

She has development and actually has growth in her character arc and grows as a person, she is not perfect, she has made mistakes but is learning from them and it’s making her into a different person, it is just hard opening up and learning to trust again is hard, but over time she begins to open up despite resistance and what her past experiences have led her out to believe, it’s not easy sacrificing everything for someone to be ultimately let down and left feeling betrayed, her strength is while although she puts on a brave face, she is vulnerable on the inside and that’s what loving someone will do to a person which is what meg is afraid of, and tries to brush it off out of fear that it will hurt her again, and a heartbreak is hard to get over, especially when you give so much of yourself to someone for them to just toss you aside and make you feel broken and numb trying to collect your pieces and trying to feel whole again, she is more human and therefore has actual feelings, she is just afraid to show them out fear

If it helps I think Disney's version of Megara is meant to be a fusion of the mythological Heracles' two wives: his first wife Megara and his last wife Deianira. Isaac Carlson talks about the two women and how they seemed to have influence the development of Disney's Megara in a video called "Who is Megara's Ex-boyfriend" where he uses info about the two women to answer that question. Essentially it seems that her name comes from the first wife, Megara, but some other details about her come from Deianira. She's a bit of a composite character of sorts. So needless to say, I don't think this Megara is going to meet the same tragic end as the mythological Megara.

I myself like to take into account that mythology is pretty much just what they are: stories in the earliest form. They are insightful read, but it helps that this may as well be just an alternative universe to that. (And heck yeah I ship these characters too.) I appreciate that this movie was at least a sample that helped pique my interest into delving into the lore.

Disney may not have made a 100% adaptation of the Greek myth, but it unironically is a great Superman story/movie not in the exact name

I loved Disney's Hercules movie since my childhood and I still have it on VHS tape it is one of my favorites back when Disney romance movies were meaningful. Meg was my childhood crush watching this, just like with Jasmine in Aladdin. Brings me back memories looking back, that scene with Meg looking seducive at 0:45 with her strap down had me feeling in some way as a kid, and questioned if this was a kid's movie but Hercules and Megara are my favorite Disney couples cause Hercules was a nice guy. When Hercules said "you're the most amazing person with weak ankles I've ever met is the cutest and sweetest compliment a man could give a woman to show how much he loves her. ♥️♥️

Hercules being so gentle and respectful of Meg is a big part of why she loves him. As you said, he's the only one who doesn't really mistreat her. Every other guy Meg interacts with in this movie is to the contrary. We meet Meg running away from Nessus, the River Guardian Centaur. He's clearly sexually attracted to Meg and he appears to be trying to force his lust upon her. Phil looks in awe at Meg's figure and immediately sits right on her lip signaling for her to kiss him. She of course, pushes Phil off of her out of disgust. Then there's Hades. He has no romantic or lustful affection for Meg, but as he has mentioned in the film, he owns her. We see how he has no regard for her personal space, her boundaries, or her body by how he constantly holds her, pulls her closer to him, grabs her body or face even when she clearly seems to not want anything to do with him. Hercules stands out here cuz he respects Meg as a person and her boundaries, hence why he was trying to keep his distance when she was trying to seduce him. Or when he pulled her sleeve up on her dress back over her shoulder. Hercules is clearly attracted to Meg physically, but never really lusts after her or forces himself upon her. Even when he goes in for kisses with her twice at the garden, she reciprocated the first time. Had Phil and Pegasus not shown up, Meg would willingly kissed him anyway.

2:36 I know this is gonna shock people, but Pegasus couldn’t actually act as a helicopter or make sounds of an helicopter, he just flew like a normal bird in Greek Mythology. He can’t even spin his wings, all he can do is flap them. Helicopters never even existed back in the B.C. era.

Now the question is do you think Xena is going to share the same appearance as Meg for the Disney version? In Hercules Legendary Journey, Meg would match her appearance as Diana and Xena. So in Disney, she is Megara but in Legendary Journeys, she is Meg. Meg had past experience impersonating a princess before. I mean for starters, she already look like Xena The Warrior Princess. Lucy Lawless can play Xena, Princess Diana and Meg. Meg may qualify to be called princess if she were to impersonate. So far, Xena herself is called Warrior Princess and Diana is already a princess herself.

I say Meg is way better than the other girls in Disney. And I can say that since I felt in love with her when I was 6 years old.

I never noticed but megs nose is drawn with such little detailed compared to Herc’s

Megara and Hercules are the best Disney characters ever.

i love this scene and movie so much, but did anyone else ever notice the continuity error of her shawl disappearing at reappearing at the beginning? 😂

She was working for Hades. Always disappointed by men. Hades knew what he was doing when he used her. A strong person that's been hurt by love too often is more likely to think outside of the moralistic box.

That’s is my favourite part 🥰of the movie.

Post Pandemic Hollywood drives me nuts sometimes! So I feel you as a 90’s baby

Recommendations gave me this! Seeing Herc and Meg makes me wish Disney Animation can go back to the romcom genre for the first time since Tangled. When they bond over being outcasts, you instantly feel the love connection between them.

This was a very lovely scene between them

I ran into Meg at anime con last month. She thought I looked cool in my Quan Chi costume!!

I love that second glance she took at that cupid statue.

0:35 Even when Meg's doing that under Hades' orders, it's apparent that she also feels reluctant about it, especially thanks to Hercules making her (as both Mandy and Zack would say) "see the light" again. Also, that same deceptive move of hers in front of Herc kind of foreshadowed something within this movie later on...

Love the music score!
