Meeting the Real Jesus - Timothy Keller [Sermon]

Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: There are three kinds of people who are open to Jesus: the poor, the violent, and the "least of these." Those who are poor, or those who know they're no different than the poor, identify with Jesus the most. If we identify with him and choose to accept him, he will disrupt our lives in order to change us and heal us.

I was baptised in 2014 when I was homeless, struggling with mental health, isolated from family, and had nowhere to turn in my life. I have only listened to KZread Sermons from Tim Keller for the last 3 years, and my life has grown from glory to glory, because of the beautiful way in which God speaks through him. I first understood Christianity as a set of beautiful principles and sought to reach them in my own strength. However, it is only when I finally experienced the Gospel that everything changed. He is by our side every moment of every day. He is the truth the way and the life. We only know him because He loved us first 🙏

I'm listening to this on 9/15/23. That makes this sermon 27 years old. I pray that it will continue to be available for many more years. It is a masterpiece of insight and honest interpretation of Scripture.

🎉🎉🎉 this is the best sermon of his i have heard yet. It is the poor AND THOSE WHO KNOW THEY ARE NO DIFFERENT FROM THE POOR can receive the Gospel. Lord of History, not a nice teacher with proposals. Double edged ⚔️ swords. Cutting to and beyond the quick.

Tim's definition of Gospel is instructive of how JRR Tolkien coined the term Eucatastrophe.

Keller said that if someone is bothered by the gospel, it is a good thing. :) Great message. I work with orphans and found a lot of encouragement here.

Edmond Beatty, Absolutely. Such is a very important point since it makes clear Jesus's divinity claims as He claims something only God could, makes explicit that He must be rejected or accepted with nothing between, and makes clear that He claimed to be the long awaited Messiah!

I'm most amazed that The Truth rings out in the middle of Babylon.Martyn Lloyd Jones talked about this a lot. "The Gospel is not here to change the world but to prepare us for the next"

Timothy Keller makes clear how Jesus intended the Gospel to be very offensive to everyone around Him. Jesus's message made it clear that God wasn't obligated to create Heaven, provide eternal life, or even create us no matter how "perfectly we behave"; what we have or not; or even whatever we believe. He makes it clear that we're all vulnerable and poor since we must recognize this and how we can't get any of this with our own strengths no matter what. Much of this is offensive since our culture rejects the sovereignty (or even existence) of such a powerful God, has come up with social structures as best indicators w/o living in the way God intended, and hates the poor in practice.

1:50 Matthew 11: 2-3 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Luke 1: 36 (Angel speaking to Mary) And, behold, *_thy cousin Elisabeth,_* she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. *_John the baptist was Jesus' cousin/nephew._* Did John not already know that his cousin Jesus is the Christ? Matthew 3: 13-15 (this is *_before_* John was in prison) Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it to be so] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Tjoppy hi 👋. I don’t know if i am right but john’s doubt is reassuring to me . In spite of everything God has done for me, I still come to periods of doubts of his love for me ...just because some are seemingly better than me. Like John, my heart is deceitful. I need God’s constant mercy and faithfulness 🙏🙏🙏
