Matthew Norman They are great, I love the message, I love how they experiment and they should keep doing it. What worries me, however, is that some of them are not properly trained to stand in ballet shoes which can seriously hurt them on the short and long term. Their arch should be above the box of the shoe, there shouldn't be an angle in the ankle. If their arch is not strong enough to sustain such position, they risk foot fractures, joint damage and in long-term, arthritis. This man you calm his enthusiasm a little bit and give girls proper training first.

@@zakmik2341 it was explained in the video that this is not "original ballet" it's hiplet, which is a combination dance style. Plenty of other dance styles include elements of ballet, but aren't technically ballet so not sure why everyone's panties are in a bunch as if ballet has never been combined with other dance styles. Lol

It was a good idea, but it looks plain ugly and they aren't even using the pointe shoes correctly. They look like deformed birds the way they are moving in the pointe shoes. Ballet should be graceful, not thrusting your body around in pointe shoes.

Exactly, I just tried crying in the club and put in hip hop and ballet. The difference is I put an even amount of both. It's hard to do that for every song out there, only those that have slow parts and faster parts. Ps. I've done ballet for 5 years now.

Dear girls, I think you are lovely. I teach dance myself and I love how much you love what you're doing. But I can't ignore that you have not been taught to dance in your pointe shoes safely. You may not even be aware how much damage you could be doing by dancing without the proper technique. I'm not at all a ballet snob, I'm not talking about flat turn out or anything like that. What I'm talking about is being aware of how to move in your pointe shoes so that your feet, ankles, knees, hips and back are protected from injury. Please contact your school about hiring additional ballet coaches to give you classes to improve your strength. Your teachers have a responsibility to teach you safely. It's not ok for them not to do that.

Madalyn Newton When teachers don’t care that they are dancing in way that will probably cause injury, UNDERMINE THEM NOW. the dancers will appreciate it when they avoid injuries that end their dance career at a super young age because of a shitty teacher that didn’t teach them technique and wanted his 15 min on fame on tv by using them.

I'm not a dancer, even I can see they are not fully on their box. Even their syncronistisity is way off, some are not performing the movements in the same way which is a shame they need to crispen their dances. Otherwise I do read lky like what they are doing the just neex sine refinement and better poses and movements that are more clearly different to traditional ballet

It is very impressive and I LOVE watching ballet but sadly it is not that popular today so if this is what is going to keep it around then so be it. This was amazing!!!

As a dancer who has trained in hip hop for 5 years I wouldn't classify that as hip hop. By the looks of it they are doing jazz funk or modern. If they are going to call it "Hip hop" then in respect of the style they should include it's elements.

  • @stormghirlando5488

robertsmithe100 If you knew your history, you would be informed that the inaugurating of Hip Hop was in the nineteen-seventies in South Bronx. The intention, as quoted from Wikipedia, was to break down racial barriers between African-Americans, Puerto Ricans, Whites and other ethnic groups. From there hip hop branched into it's four elements: rapping, DJing, graffiti writing and break dancing. Breaking dancing further branched into rocking, locking and popping. Taking that into consideration, if a dance does not include those elements and basics then it can't be characterised as hip hop. Therefore I point out your ignorant statement is incorrect. Secondly I do not have a melanin deficiency, as that suggest diseases such as albinism or vitiligo. Expanding on this, melanins purpose in the body is only to protect us from UV rays, it's variation in humans does not determine intelligence. Please ensure your facts are correct before you criticize.

robertsmithe100 I feel you fail to grasp my intentions with regards to my initial comment, it was directed to proper execution of both styles of dance and only dance. I am perplexed on your inclusion and your persistence on racial affairs. Please can you kindly inform me as to where I made a racial slur. Continuing on this, I find it disrespectful of your racial slurs which is completely uncalled for. "My kind" and "my species" is human, therefore I am confused as to why you used this. In this modern reality, we are all equal and racism is a sign of ignorance no matter who you are. Lastly, I would like to point out that my research was done through my qualification as a dance teacher certified by SABOD. SABOD meaning South Africa Body Of Dance, therefore your "initial clap back" as you call it is still without factual background.

This movement certainly debunks the myth that ballet dancers have to be paper thin and ghost white to be a good dancer. I absolutely love ballet and wish I had been fortunate enough to have been trained in the art, but I to am a product of Chicago's less than glamorous and poor living areas. My parents couldn't afford to pay and there were not very many schools in our area. I'm so glad to be able to see more dancers like the beautifully and enormously talented Misty Copeland gracing the headlines in the world of ballet. It cannot be an easy dance to master but they make it look easy. Bravo ladies and CMDC!!!!!! {{{{{{{Please do not take my opinion out of context and/or insinuate in any way that my comments are racist. I am a biracial human and I couldn't be happier with myself nor my diverse heritage, this is my opinion and I'm entitled to it}. Thank you.

I don't post comments to be negative. If I see something on You tube that I don't like or that doesn't suit my taste I say nothing. When I see something that has the potential to do harm and I know a lot of other people are going to see it I feel I have an obligation to speak up. If I didn't know anything about ballet I'd probably be impressed by this video. But I happen to know about ballet and I know that these girls haven't been given the opportunity to develop enough strength in their bodies to safely dance on pointe. My last comment was too throwaway and I apologize for the offence I gave to you or anyone else who reads it. But I'm not jealous or 'a stupid fame bitch' - I'm concerned for the welfare of the girls. I'm concerned that such irresponsible teaching methods are being celebrated without question and I'm concerned that other girls will see this video and think that this standard of training is safe. It's just not. It's the kind of training that creates unnecessary injury and harm. The girls deserve better and all the students who are likely to attend the school as a result of footage like this deserve better. The school needs to develop its standard of teaching to protect the needs of the students. Seeing this and posting this doesn't make me the problem. It's because I admire the students and want to support them and their classmates in the long-term that I post this message.

I wonder if it would be better to isolate the hip hop movements to the upper body, arms, torso... With the feet and legs doing more traditional ballet movements. The movements could be hard and sharp at the bottom yet solid ballet point movements. I like the concept. I love the black girl magic. This new dance form is in its infancy compared to others. Just my thoughts on how it can grow.

Really poor camera work on this. Why the heck do they zoom in to the upper half of the body then the lower legs and sometimes not even the feet. You always need to see the full body of the dancer. We missed seeing most of the dance because of it.

I think they should keep a nice even mix of ballet moves and hip hop moves and float along the line in the middle and not let one form over-power the other so much. As you can see in the very beginning, they HAVE technique. They're are a lot of racist trolls in the comment sections of hiplet dance saying that it's appropriation. Whites are teaching hip hop everyday and do we say anything? No. And they are making buku dollars off of it and our music and anything else we produce, so leave it alone. I agree they need to keep it classy because it can quickly become just hip hop on pointe. And blacks are graceful when we have a graceful upbringing, so get off of it. It's about systematic and outright oppression that you racists confuse with laziness and cognitive- degeneracy. We blacks are beautiful and have style and grace, we just have to fight for everything we have because we were planted at the bottom by fearful and terrified racists so we become hardened not softened. Get over it, we are great and adapt quickly. With the black enlightenment movement enduring, how will racist America hold us down next?

Not everything is about race. You can see what is wrong here. Stop using these young girls in a way that will damage their ligaments possibly forever for your need to be proud about being black. There are many many amazing blacks dancers in all styles including ballet. Be proud of them. Let these children develop safe technique and THEN start innovating.

this makes me so uncomfortable. I really love hip hop and I love classical ballet, I also like classic ballet to hip hop music. but this just doesn't work... you can't combine a dance style like hip hop with its soft movements with something as strict as classical ballet. it makes the movements seem forced and uncomfortable and plainly the dancers look like they can't dance although they are certainly all very talented and capable. makes me sad...

Can you even see how she is standing? Your ankle is meant to be directly on top of your toes, not behind them. The shoe will wear off on that rim of the box, and cause great damage to her toes and ankles. Her wrists just don't seem flexible enough for the type of stress pointe work puts on them. I am not about to come here to hate on this girl or whatever you want to all it. I am just pointing out the obvious and agreeing with a statement that has already been made. Can we now please not argue over this? Thanks a lot.

If I thought cultural appropriation was a thing, this would be it. But I don’t; I’m happy to see these kids enjoying themselves and getting the exposure. I’m happy to see cultures blending and people being praised for their creativity. Real traditional ballet will always exist and be cherished, but that doesn’t mean this can’t be enjoyed either.

I honestly think hip-hop will go by the wayside with the general population in the same way that disco dancing did. Anyway, Hip-hop done well is wonderful, yet really quite incompatible with the essence of ballet done well. Some of the moves in this dance came from the strip-tease world; such as the hip grinding. So these teens/ young women are really combining three dance genre's ,( if you consider stripping as a dance genre', some would differ). It is dangerous to do these seductive hip moves and hip-hop stomping, in conjunction with being on full pointe. For a ballerina, the center of balance when dancing lies in the pelvis; by throwing the pelvis akilter, stomping on pointe, and so on you are continually comprising the center of balance, thus the ballet parts of the dance cannot be performed beautifully. I am concerned about the damage to the feet, twisted ankles, and other chronic injuries this 'hiplet' dancing has to be causing for these very young dancers. The techniques that ballet dancers use to maintain balance and minimize injury have been compromised in a most serious manner- I would never allow this type of dancing in my home or studio for these aforementioned reasons.

They are ALL KNUCKLING, They are all breaking their lines, sickling and going from flat to point without rolling through demi. I feel they all want to please this mans dream of creating "something new". Some of them can't even get over their box. They need a better choreographer because they are all talented, but this guy is going to ruin their dance carer with his selfish endeavor.
