Meet New York Deaf Theatre, the longest-running company of its kind in New York City and the third oldest Deaf troupe in the U.S. Founded in 1979, NYDT provides an artistic home for actors, creators and designers who are Deaf or hard of hearing where they can see their own lives and experiences reflected onstage. NYDT's shows are accessible to both audiences who can hear and those who are Deaf or hard of hearing thanks to a combination of American Sign Language, spoken English and English captioning.
