Meet the "New" Ruger Marlin 336 Classic

Спорт

As the former Director of Marketing for Marlin, Matt Foster was curious about Ruger’s take on the reintroduced Marlin 336 Classic Rifle. Foster sat down with Marlin Product Manager Eric Lundgren at the 2023 NRA Annual Meetings for an in-depth conversation on this much-anticipated rifle.

WMH

They made em right the first time with pride. I look forward to seeing a new rifle and going from there. And from what I've gathered is if someone is going to complain about the price then its just not for you theres alot of others.

I have always loved Ruger and Marlin guns I let one of each brand slip away years ago that today are worth their weight in gold. I am glad that a great company like Ruger picked up the Marlin brand and didn't let it fade like another favorite of mine Remington. I own several Rugers and are pleased with them all. I only own one older Marlin which I also like. Unfortunately guns today with beautiful wood which I prefer are for the most part are out of my reach unless they are well maintained older used models which I have managed to find from time to time and quickly grabbed up.

In 1964, I purchased a slightly used Model 336 for 45 dollars. It was one of the finest rifles I ever owned. Stationed on Shemya Island in The Alaska Aleutian Island chain In The US Army. We had a shooting area. I took advantage to go to the shooting area and target shoot every chance I had. Also bought a Ruger 22 with 6 inch barrel at the same time for 15 dollars. I no longer have either and sorry I parted with them. I prefer Marlin lever actions over Winchester.

Marlin would be silly to not chamber their lever guns in cartridges like the 444 Marlin, 360 Buckhammer, 38-55 etc. They could even make their own cartridge based around the straight wall cartridge hunting laws etc.. 444 Marlin, shortened to 1.8in case length and send it.

It is a crying shame the way people are only negative in ther comments! For crying out loud! Cant you just be greatful that the Marlin name and their best product has been saved from disappearing altogether? And most of the questions that are in asked in the comments were answered in the video if you would just listen to it. Is it the dame handfitted rifle from the 1950's? Of course not! Are the prices high? Absolutely! And as long as the market will support it they will continue to be high... its called free enterprise. When things slow down a bit there will be a price drop. Things rarely stay at MSRP for long. Are they too high now for most of us? Probably so but someone is buying them as fast as they hit the shelf. In fact I have yet to see one at all. Im hoping that there will be other caliber as they catch up current production and they hear from us about what we want. I would love to see them bring back my favorite the 35 Remington. Other calibers i would like to see include the 308 &338 Marlin Express, the 375Winchester, the 356Winchester... Marlin would do well to offer different versions of the 336 like a straight grip stock. Different barrel lengths and sporting carbine configurations. They could make Trappers and make different levers with various sized and shaped loops. They could even offer different sights and drill and tap them for receiver sights. The possibilities are tremendous but we all want to do is gripe about some aspect of what we do have. Give them a chance and dont worry, no one can make you buy one!!!

I was a little disappointed that they didn't use cut checkering that Ruger seems to excel at. Now, I think the real question is, why can Ruger be very critical on wood fit on the 336/1894, but my late No1 looks like the wood was fitted by a high school shop class????

I think the prices of the Marlins are not that expensive. In the long term these rifles will out live the buyer so its pennies on the dollar. Great job Ruger and good video.

It'd be a lot of fun, but not gonna happen. the 450 Bushmaster is rimless cartridge that headspaces on the case mouth, thus no crimp. Under recoil the bullets could get pushed further into the case by the bullets in front of it in a tubular magazine. It would be great if it worked, but probably best just to stick to the 45-70...
