HMS Collingwood is roughly based on the F2 battlecruiser design from November 1921. The design, following the limitations of the Washington Naval Treaty, was armed with six 381 mm (15″) guns in three twin turrets and had a planned displacement of 35 000 tons. At the same time, the O3 design of battleship was being developed and lead to the creation of the Nelson-class. Basically a “washington-compatible” version of the G3 design. The cap was now 35,000 tons standard, way below the 48,000-50,000 tonnes worked on until then. The Admiralty ordered two designs to meet this, called F2 and F3, and a third, called O3 battleship, later the Nelson Class. Both F designs were marked by the adoption of a new 15in/50 gun which matched in range the dropped 18-in of previous designs. The armour scheme of O3 was mirrored while a speed of 30kts was kept. The F2, which is what Collingwood is based on, could be summarized as a “battlecruiser version of the Nelson”. It measured 760 (oa) x 106 x 28ft 6in (231 x 32.3 x 5.6 m) for 35,000 tons as planned. Machinery was of course much smaller and only reached 112,000shp, enabling a top speed of 30kts light. They were armed with three twin 15-in guns (six 381 mm) mixing twin turrets ad single 6-in guns (4×2, 4×1) and four multiple (sextuple probably) 2pdr pom-pom mounts, still two underwater 24.5in torpedo tubes. The internal belt was lighter, back to the old 12in thick scheme, over the machinery spaces, 13in over the magazines but angled at 72.5°, so artificially increasing is thickness. Deck armour was lighter too with 7in over the magazines, 3.25 in over the machinery spaces, 13in barbettes and 16 in turrets faces, 7in sides and back. Total weight of the armour was still 10,210 tons. Fun fact: Collingwood is named after Admiral Horacio Nelson’s second-in-command, Vice Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, 1st Baron Collingwood (26 September 1748 - 7 March 1810), who fought alongside Nelson in several British victories during the Napoleonic Wars, including the famous Battle of Trafalgar.

The Collingwood looks great. I do love my Premium Warspite though and I have it set up to *BLAP* hard with Running With Scissors at the expense of range. Spartan Elite43 will have 50k subs before August! I have spoken.

Quacken! Who doesn’t love Conquerer guns? It’s like all the other T6 ships for the most part, except it’s all 356mm rated armor and doesn’t have a belt on the side to Angle to bounce shells.

Spartan after all these years you have now earned my Sub. Brilliant honest review, now you have given me more respect for Collingwood. I shall take it off the trophy shelf and into service aside Nelson, cheers.

I like this ship! Played a few and did well...

Having to think-tank the Collingwood. My first 5 games in it have confused me greatly: people go broadside against this thing like nobody's business, but WG seem to take citadels away from broadside ships against this thing. Shot high, low, cheek, aft cheek, and plunging thru side deck/s.structure, no bonks. 419mm AP bounces off La Galissioniere bow and New Orleans cheek. Though i love the forward facing 3x turrets more than i thought i'd would, this thing is a big ol question mark.

What a game!!!!!! That kraken was craaaaazzzzyyyyyy😮😮 Good job Spartan

Despite having green armour for the entire hull, i still struggle to hit this thing's citadel, even when they're flat broadside, cuz all i get is overpen, because, reasons.

I do enjoy collingwood but it’s armor can be devastating sometimes

I saw tomboy's video, and other than the reload booster and sonar, I just don't see why I'd get Collingwood over Nelson, especially since the armor makes me want to cry 😢🤷‍♂️

I looked at the Collingwood and the reduced price Nelson on Monday. I said no to the Collingwood but yes to the Nelson.

The armour on this ships looks pretty light for a battleship

I quite like this ship and have a few good games in it but I still think the Nelson is a better ship. Great game though Spartan 👍

I swear DD’s always get away with yolo’ing ships in close quarters. You shoot them, they’re still alive somehow and you eat a lot of torps. Usually how it goes.

Fun fact: Collingwood has a 2.0 sigma meaning that shells will be grouped together more often than not hence the stupid accuracy you see.

Great game It seems like an interesting ship however at best it’s a side grade to the Nelson if not worse 6 vs 9 guns with no over match difference and no super heal.

Oh great- an insta delete bb.spartan, just a side note- i know the nomenclature is used a lot but the guns on these ships are not 40 ca/ 50 caliber etc... Thats a pistol or rifle....pew pew....really small bullets. Thanks for the vid.

You realize that caliber is used in Naval guns to describe the length of the barrel right? So a 16 inch 45 caliber gun is a gun that is 16 inches in diameter and 45x16 in barrel length 720 inches long.

Everyone said Collingwood would be trash. This video shows the opposite. Good job, Spartan, I've been telling people the guns on this ship are not to be triffled with. Also, the Heal is a specialized heal that can recover penetration damage where as, normal heals and super heals can not do.

Also, since these are dual turrets, Ive noticed that Collingwood's 3rd turret has better gun angles than Nelson

My first impressions from this ship (haven’t played it) we’re meh. It looks like a Nelson without the things that make Nelson good. I fought 2 of these in my Normandie and if it wasn’t for that reload booster I would of killed both of them easily as that nose is rough

Just gotta learn to play it... it is a very good ship. You essentially have conqueror guns at tier 6 with reload booster that's crazy... Just like Nelson you've gotta pick your engagements and utilize cover to avoid the massive hits and you'll be fine

Except it is faster, has 3 less guns, the guns are a different size, it has less armour and different consumables, but it is a British Battleship

Thanks for deleting my post on the truth that Collingwood is basically the same model as the Nelson but with slightly bigger guns no greater heal but with a reload booster. Oh by the way, they buy the ship models for £130 off the modeller and make a huge profit. Do the maths. This is the laziest update of all time tbh.

I played World Of Tanks for years until they started adding and adding and swamping the interface so it gives you a headache. Next they'll be doing +0.005% extra damage if you purchase a wooly jumper for your Admiral
