You know that bird is your bird when you're confident enough to let them fly freely outside where they can possibly never return. That would make me nervous.

@@d.e.b.b5788 you need guidance from a professional before flying a bird outside. The vid you linked included a kiwi who likely only read up and watched videos of flight training and did not receive adequate assistance in the process. birdtricksstore.com/pages/freestyle-flyers-club the website clearly states to find just the right location to fly, and to know what you are doing requires affirmation from someone who knows what they are doing.

@@alexanderficken9354 The problem exists, that casual bird owners will view videos of free flying, and try to emulate the behavior. Unfortunately, everyone likes to believe that they are smarter than most, and so, wind up making plenty of mistakes. Plus, free flying pet birds comes with substantial risks, which are downplayed by those who do it.

@@d.e.b.b5788 I completely agree that people overestimate their abilities, that is why they should seek assistance. The video we are commenting on is showing the very early stages of free flight and people need to both do their research and get help before taking such a risk, as shown in both the vid we are commenting on and the vid you showed. I would trust jamie that free flight training is necessary for you to not to lose your bird in an uncontrolled environment. Glad you agree

That was a real treat for me! My grey is my first and likely only bird. He is 11 months and already has quite a bit of speech. He calls my dog by name and and says ‘give me a kiss’ , ‘step up’ and I heard him ask ‘are you ok?’ earlier. He copies everything we say to him regularly and can use it at appropriate times already. He is NOT as calm as Cressi 🤣He is only chilled enough for scratches when the sun starts to go down. He has free flight of our house but I would be too terrified to free flight train him as I have no experience and couldn’t risk losing him. We are building an outdoor aviary as a compromise. Can’t wait for part two 🤗

Cressi is pretty typical for an African Grey, being so laid back. I remember bird sitting a grey, and he was more of an observer, and just watched me play with my birds that I brought with me. The last day I was there, he clearly said my name (so I guess he knew it all the time, lol). I have the same birthday as Cressi, and it does help people remember it better, it's a good day for a birthday. Cressi is beautiful, content and you and Dave saved her from being neglected, I'm sure she will never forget this. Looking forward to part 2.

I so miss my birds. When I was volunteering for our Humane Society I took two Timnehs home to "foster". LOL....20 years later.... They were both wild caught (had the round leg bands). One came through Texas and one Florida. They had several homes and finally ended up with a hoarder that had 100 birds in her house, fed only sunflower seeds and the poop in the cages was inches deep. I have no idea how old they were but I had them for 20 years. They had been kept together in one cage. Marley bullied Ziggy constantly so I got them separate cages and they lived next to each other and could visit when out of the cages. Marley passed away last year and Ziggy the year before that. Ziggy was so terribly frightened. It took 10 years before he finally took a pine nut from my hand. When he came home all he did was growl. I'd sit by their cages for hours and just talk and sing to them. He finally started dancing with me but I could never touch him. Marley was so tame, she obviously was someones buddy at one point in her life. That bird NEVER bit me in all those years. Neither one of them ever talked but they mimicked a lot of sounds. Both of them learned to love showering. I find it odd that they passed away about a year apart. Broken hearts? Oh, the sibling rivalry...but they loved each other. I found you guys and started ordering your pellets and alternating with TOPS. I still have a bunch left I need to donate. Man, I want another bird so bad but I'm 63 now and it wouldn't be very fair to a bird. I still LOVE watching your videos, thank you.

Sounds like you gave those two a darn good life. At 63 there must be a rescue bird somewhere you could give a home to? Perhaps not another African Grey, but something smaller? Even if not, at least we can all watch these sorts of videos and smile.

My mom's Brazilian and grew up around a lot of very colorful birds. She was absolutely enthralled when she saw greys, and had one for about 15 years. Once she had kids she sadly didn't have enough time for her birds (she also had an ekkie), and sent them to someone that had large flocks of each in aviaries. Now we're back with gen2 of the dynamic duo, a grey that prefers her and an eclectus that prefers me. Completely unintended, but I guess birds run in the family :D

Omg, thank you so much for answering my question about her puberty! Cressi actually reminds me so much of my Grey girl... the messiness, the nonchalant attitude about EVERYTHING, the easily stimulated, the closet talking but uncanny impersonation my other birds lol. Before I got Marengo, everything I read about greys described them as “neurotic, not usually food-motivated, highly phobic, not physically affectionate” and absolutely none of that is the case with Marengo 😂... she is my go-to public education bird (I am the clear preferred human but she will step up for strangers if it means pumpkin seeds, unlike my Quaker who will try to eat human children for breakfast). It’s reassuring to hear about her being such an “early bloomer” because my girl was around the same age when she first started on the “dislocated wing panting” and when I first saw it I was in shock and thought something might be wrong because it was so early! To this day, I’m not positive what the exact trigger was, but I think it could have been using edamame (which she LOVES!) as training treats and too much protein. I have to be so careful with her toys and sleep patterns because like Cressi the most random things seem to trigger her, and even being careful she’ll still get so in the mood at least a few times a week and the only thing that calms her down is to plunk her down in a zero-stimuli room by herself for five minutes to settle. But anyways, I enjoyed this so much and Cressi is absolutely adorable ♥️

Hearing you describe the flinging goop mess basically sounds like the daily routine owning sugar gliders. Its amazing how far they can actually sling that stuff, I'm talking at least 6ft away on another wall.

You should recreate some of the old pictures of you with your birds, especially the ones with Capri and the birds bc she’s grown so much

Man wish i knew how amazing it would be to free fly as a bird. For outside birds it is normal but for pet birds it must feel amazing!

I love Cressi! Thanks so much for the vid! A question about her free flight: she made an amazing progress from day 1 to 11. Did she build all those muscles in just 10 days or was she capable of flying like a rocket indoors? So impressive! ❤️

This is extra cool to watch since my auntie has a 24 year old Congo African Grey, Seraphim, so I can better understand some of Cressi's body language. Seraphim's not clipped but she is an indoor only bird (she once escaped and a hiker found her in a field all wet and ill most of a week later, and brought her in to a police station or something - this is in North-West England, so cold and wet weather most of the time) I get the impression they're just rather chilled out parrots, providing you don't do something they don't like! (I've been bitten hard enough to break the skin twice, both times completely my fault) Seraphim can say a few words, but she'll only do so when there's nobody in the room during her morning singing session. So cool that you can fly yours outdoors! Looking forward to part 2. 🙂

Thanks for all the great tips you share. Your birds are adorable. Do you recommend getting 2 Tiels at the same time initially? I got a big cage and toys. I want one for me and one for my daughter. Worried they may bond together more than us? Also thinking whether it would be better to introduce them both to the same cage/home initially rather than adding one later to the other's territory?

So beautiful to see and cant cry enough on what I'm going through,I also owm an african grey, mojo,he is 1.75 years old and i got him when he was 3 months, now he has been om a seed diet along with vegies and fruits due to which it became impossible for me to give treats to him as there as no pellets available here, and the biggest struggle is to put him back in his cage every day,the moment he gets out of cage, thoigh he loves me plays with me and we cuddle a lot,bur after like 1-2 hours when he knows now its time to go in,he getss very aggressive, bites, and every day i habe to hold him from behind and then pit him back that he really hates,I've many plans to cure this, your channel has helped me a lot,i will soom prepare his chop ajd completely eliminate seeds from his diet,i hope in that way soom i will be able to train him... Ps:can you kindly tell me how to do you store your chop ?

after watching this video turns out that my african grey does a lot of things similar to what cressi does, for example, my grey started showing hormonal behaviour when he was about 2 years old, he also starts to breath heavily and droop his wings (especially on top of his cage and run on it) and then he regurgitates a lot. Another thing my grey does like cressi is that he's also not that picky with his food and he's also very very messy, he gets his water bowl dirty in no time! Anyway, im looking forward for part 2! :>

You guys are just amazing with your birds. how long it took you guys to train her until she was fully prepared for free flight? We also adopted African Grey, she is finally starting to come out of her cage.
