That made my inner child smile the whole time. At long last, 40-ish years later, the fiction of KR is being fully realized. Makes me wonder if in 5 years (3... 1???) time, will fully interactive chat avatars become a standard option for any modernized car. Because it sure feels like a way to whittle away those long miles during that next car based vacation trip. And... got to smirk at the Tesla auto pilot missing that entire set of stairs. Feels like the time when KITT questioned what a trolly car in San Fran was.

Peri, my mother in law's surname is "Day", because her grandfather was an orphan who was delivered to the orphanage during the during daylight hours. Babies delivered at night are "Nights" or "Knights", etc. Sometimes you get a "Winter" if the baby arrives on a cold day.

This is wild. I've been sitting on a similar idea of using an LLM as a "car companion" for a while. You wouldn't have to have it be KITT, you could come up with your own persona and stuff of course. So since you've beat me on building such a thing, I'll just leave this here and see if you pick it up. What if you use an Arduino CANBUS interface, which you can read everything being sent on the bus and use an LLM to decode the signals, that can pair with your phone via bluetooth and you could have KAITT interface with the car via listening and maybe even sending info back onto the CANBUS without having to go out to the cloud via API to get things like closing the door and such to work. ;) Might be worth looking into, at least for the Teslas. Mapping everything for other makes and models of cars might be out of scope. But whatever. Just gonna leave that here... :)

Unfortunately, I can't take part in the competition. The German TÜV would take the car completely apart. I would then have to install KITT in a portable TV set and carry it around with me 😅

You could technically make the TransAm drive itself. There is a EV conversion company in the UK that also does work with CommaAI. I cant remember the name right now but i watched a video where they put full self driving into an old Mazda MX5 and it worked great.

@@RetroRecipes Electric Classic Cars in wales do amazing work but that means getting it over here. I think they charge around £15-16k for a conversion.

Technically, you should be able to save all the sounds that William made from the Knight Rider, and adjust the clips that have interference. And then you let an AI read all the audio files into a database and let it, - via the recordings, generate the correct voice for the questions you ask it. For example. Elvis, Mercury, Cash, etc. has some decent AI generated songs already. In 10-20 years, AI-songs will be incredibly good. The fact that William doesn't want to get his voice into an AI is very sad. But as long as interest in Knight Rider continues, I can guarantee that his voice will be used in a really good AI sooner or later - regardless of his will. Even the personality of KITT will very likely be the same as the original within 20 years if you so wish. And then it will react and respond much faster than today. We're in for a treat! Thank you for the video.

The shifting accent really hits, especially when KITT goes Aussie. Shame, but understandable that Daniels doesn't want his voice to be included, can see why. And honestly, next gen KITT should be reminiscent of Daniels but not the exact facsimile. Freaking hyped to see this tech in the Pontiac, that's going to be trippy.

If only we were already at a stage (in April 2024) where KITT’s auto-drove technology was consumer grade. I do not mind repeating that having an amenity like it at my disposal would permit me to live anywhere without needing a real motorist to get my legally-blind self places where there’s no public transportation. It would also be worth getting an interfaced smart watch (when I haven’t strapped on a watch in seven or eight years) for opening the doors, hood and rear.

One might not totally agree with the 'heart' reference, at the end of the video, as KITT's heart was not the engine, but surely the processor (or the programming, or both?). I reference this due to the fact that if one keeps in mind that if KITT is in a portable state then 'he' is not - technically - part of the car. As referenced previously by KITT (or KAITT) the car is but a shell, within which KITT has been placed inside of. (Just saying!).

What a great idea! Cutting-edge. 🎉

I sure would LOVE to see an Android version of this KITT APP, even more specifically an add on voice for the WAZE navigation APP.

If someone in the UK won Kittesla and he/she tried to make the car drive autonomously, would it refuse because it would be aware it's in the UK and it doesn't have permission to drive autonomously? FSD won't be active right but only yesterday Tesla were taking the German authorities for test drives with FSD and the beta is now open in other parts of Europe so I'm guessing UK late this year.
