Meet Aftermath: The 130lb Superstar Merle Bully | BIG DOGZ

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

MEET Aftermath - one of the rarest dogs in the world, whose owner describes him as a “street legal snow leopard”.The four-year-old, 130lb giant was the world's first exotic XL merle bully and his puppies sell for upwards of $10,000. The canine colossus is owned by Eric Gray, 31, and wife Natasha, 30, who run Mega Built Bullies in British Columbia, Canada. Aftermath's unique, technicolor patterning is down to the fact he has the “merle” gene, which generates mottled patches of colour and can also create blue or odd-coloured eyes and affect skin pigment. Eric said: “Some of his photos have been shared over a million times on Instagram, he's produced huge 15 pup litters, his semen has been frozen and sent all over the world. His puppies sell for $10,000 and up and his stud fee is the same. We have had people offer us big money for Aftermath, but he’s too special to us, he’s literally priceless."

I breed dogs for about 15yrs and the money played a role but never sold a dog to a unstable family always made sure I knew where they were going... The funniest thing is that I was dealing with $5000 dogs that were amazing but the smartest and best dog I've ever owned I got for $100 probably the ugliest but he made up for it in smarts and loyalty and obedience I would talk to him like a person and give him commands in sentences and he always knew what to do.I got him when I was 18yrs and had him for 15yrs he past away but lived a great life with my family and kids.

We adopted a "one in a million merle" pit from a shelter for under a hundred bucks years ago. He was smart, well behaved and knew how to sit amongst other commands too. Luckily his head wasn't deformed and too big for his body so he was also able to live a long and healthy 14 years. I miss that dog every damn day.

Bully breeders need to go to a shelter and realize 70% of dogs there, are bully breeds. Those that breed their dog which could have 1 to 6 puppies, then someone who got one of those puppies would want to breed them adding another 1 to 6 puppies then the next and next to where you'll have 50 dogs all related from your dog, where you end up with dogs that no one wants or someone miss treats or abandons or even brings into dog fights. I'm not against those who breed dogs especially dogs that have certain traits like shedless or working dog breeds, but I'm against mass breeding for looks and money, those that breed knowing there are so many bullys looking for homes but simply don't care out of their own greed.

I don't care if you're buying a dog especially if it's a certain breed, we have a shitzu because some are allergic to dogs in my family, I'm not against buying dogs from a good breeder. Like I love watching DDK breeders web series. But they breed their dogs with a specific gene pool that’s been proven to be great protection dogs. They don’t just breed for the sake of having prettier dogs when it’s tons of beautiful dogs rotting in shelters who need homes. When you put two large dogs together and and get one puppy that is not something to be proud of. Also merle is not a natural color pattern found in Pitbull or bullies. The reason many breeders are against it because it's a clear out cross that you can gurantee isn't mentioned in the pedigree. It's why they suddenly appeared over the last 5 years. 10k is clearly also a breeder or wealthy man's price as no pet owner(working man) will spend that much on a dog without some ROI....lame

You must not understand how breeding works. Any dog of any size can have just one pup. If you breed a day too late or a day too early, it will impact the litter size. Also, there are a number of things that can cause puppies to be reabsorbed early in the pregnancy. Even the time of year can affect litter size. It's a proven fact that litters in the spring and summer tend to be bigger because the survival rate is higher. Some women release two and even three eggs during one ovulation when one is the norm.....dogs are the same way and release different amounts of eggs.

Rená Hamilton if the puppy was so big it needed a c section for itself, a full litter would not have survived because there would not be enough room in the womb for them. They’ve specifically breed them to be large and as a result it’s a health problem to keep going larger. While I’m glad they’re aware of health problems with the Merle gene and are taking precautions to minimize birth defects, I still think it is irresponsible to keep him as part of their breeding stock because his progeny still have a decently high probability of inheriting this genetic defect.

If you have a Merle and you stud him out, you shouldn’t have any of those issues unless you breed him with Merle female. He said that. These dogs aren’t healthy. They’re poorly bred mutts. Purebred does not equal well bred, that’s not what I’m saying. I know of a lot of people who will mix different breeds together to produce good, quality working dogs. But this? These dogs can barely walk, bow legged, weird unnatural chests. That one dog, Sultan, his eyes didn’t even look straight at the camera and the owner/breeder claimed that he was the best dog they’ve ever produced. If that’s the best they produced, all they do is produce culls because every single one of those dogs are culls. They’re a supposed bully breed and didn’t even go after that pig at all. I bet any game bred pup would’ve nailed one of those pigs. These aren’t well bred dogs by any means and don’t deserve the price they fetch.

@@DinosEatMeat4 I fully agree with you! Their "best" pup looks like what you buy from a byb bred mutt. I own 2 GSD's (Which I made the mistake of buying from byb months back when I was ignorant and didnt know what ethical, responsible breeding was. I love my dogs, dont get me wrong, but I wish I would have bought from reputable breeders instead.) However, seeing these dogs fetch the prices they do, and that they publicly breed and sell literall deformed mutts for that price I think its worse than buying from a byb. Working dogs, will have a distinctive drive. Because they were bred to do it. These dogs lack ALL drive. They are only bred for color, not health, temperament or improving a already bad rep breed. Poor pups.

The merle gene is known to cause a number of health problems, mostly deafness and blindness, and also sun sensitivity and skin cancer. These problems are unusual in heterozygous merles (Mm) but unfortunately common in double merles (MM). For this reason two merles should never be bred together, as this will result in some double merle puppies. Hidden Merle and Cryptic Merle Hidden merle are Merle dogs (mM), who do not exhibit the merle pattern (it is usually not detectable to eye in red, gold, fawn or cream colours). Then you got the Color dilution alopecia (CDA) is a genetic recessive inherited condition that causes patches of hair thinning or loss, and may also include flaky and/or itchy skin. The condition is associated with individuals who have what is called “dilute” color😣😣😣
