You're very entertaining, thank you!
I had seen many malaria cases back home with experience of Quinine use .Chronic tinnitus is very rare.( never seen by myself and not a common feedback from my colleagues) Tinnitus for short term is fairly common in higher dosage and of course low body weight patients . I am worry more for cardio toxicity of Quinine.Quinine is still valuable in treatment of cerebral malaria and Quinine resistance are partially resistance which could be off set by adding doxy or other tetracycline derivatives.

This was great. Thank you. Question -- is bilateral facial nerve palsy (if it ever happens) pathognomoic for Lyme?

Absolutely not. Neoplastic causes, metabolic causes, other infectious causes... Definitely not pathognomonic for lymes

Also sarcoidosis
If allergy to B-lactams (penicillins, cefulorsporins, carbapenems) then you can't give cefuroxime to someone allergic to penecillin... the allergy is due to b-lactam ring. instead you give macrolides or vancomycin in case of resistant strains

depends on allergy. If anaphylaxis you can't give. If hives it should be safe.

@@diegovanegas197 I did Veterinary medicine as my undergrad.. You might be confusing Taenia Saginata that doesn't cause neurocysticercosis (it instead results in intestinal burden with tapeworm), with Taenia Solium you get from eating raw pork that leads to neurocysticercosis. This is why pork should never be eaten raw (if ever), or at least in countries endemic with Taenia Solium

@@diegovanegas197 the cysts are in the meat.. its part of the life cycle of the parasite. These can also be seen on histo. However those patients got it is atypical and doesn't prove that infection by ingestion of meat does not occur commonly. Its a 1992 study , sample size of 4. Not sure how representative it can be. There are agricultural laws forbidding the transport of pork into Australia for this reason of transmission.

With due respect, h/o affective disorders are not a contraindication for mefloquine. Thought disorders are. H/o depression is fine. H/o schizophrenia: no no no.
So incredibly gross
