    Wahid I served in the US military and I want to say I am sorry for what you have been through. I hope you know that not everyone looks down on the afganis or any one else a part of the middle east. It's sad that the US military has caused so much havoc in that area of the world and it was due to many of our unconscious states of mind and the manipulation from certain leaders and media. One day I hope we all can remember we come from one source and are a part of that source weather we know it or not. Much love to you brother.

    @@donkanis6141 brother, there are still good men and women in this world. We forget this because of the chaos, but all this chaos is a distraction meant to keep us divided for power and control, but we are slowly waking up and seeing everything for what it is. That in reality we are all family. We have always been and always will be. We just need to remember this and then remind others. I love you bro, and I hope life treats you well and that you're surrounded with love throughout your life.

    Back in 1974 I read Krishnamurti and Alan Watts , I saw something important there but struggled to understand - pity Eckert Tolle wasn't around then as he'd have saved me much confusion.I'm 77 and understand now that I was completely out of synch with people around me then.People today are lucky to have these talks with Eckert.Good wishes to all now and into the 'future' in the now.😊 Paul

Thoughts no longer frighten or anger me ( for long). I am so grateful I can look forward to meditating. It is as easy as breathing. I can even do it on my own. It is early, but digestion and sleep are improving. I am finding release and relief. My gratitude to you . Blessings

    Beyond all that, there’s the fierce, capitalist machine behind Tolle’s work to contend with. Nearly everything this guy touches these days is being turned into a product intended for “your awakening,” and I don’t get the sense that he has any problem with that. In fact, I think the packaging of Tolle as a non-threatening spiritual guru has not only lead to wildly higher sales and spreading of his message, but also wholesale rejection of his work by those like myself actively resisting capitalism, colonialism, and the commodification of spiritual practice.

    After 40 years of meditation, I want to add something. I've learned there are many ways to meditate. I really love his concepts and talks. I have learned to focus my thoughts on certain words which are really inner feelings. This awareness of the self, the presence, manifests in feelings within. Some have named it the fruit of the spirit. First, some words that represent feelings of calmness... peace, love, trust, humbleness. Yogananda said the first sign of success in meditation is feeling peaceful. The second type of feeling is more like excitement... one could focus upon feeling joy, enthusiasm, strength, and unlimitedness. One example of a meditation using words... breathe in (and really try to feel) peace, and breathe out stress and anxiety. Do this repeatedly. Really feel calmness, peace. Breathe in trust, breathe out fear. The power of positive thinking can be viewed as the power of positive feeling. Also, many meditation practices begin by relaxing the body, where we sometimes hold stress. Breathing exercises can calm the body. Progressive relaxation of all the muscles is another. Even exercise or a hot bath or sauna can relax the body. Anyway, hope this may help someone. Don't worry, feel happy. Peace.

    the thing about most meditation is that it is less easily transferable to daily activities....as they focus on limited perceptions as their goal. IE you may focus just on your breathing. Eckhart is recommending a much broader arena of focus which is somewhat unique.

    I came here because my obsessionally worrying mind is spoiling my life. My bed has become an instrument of torture, not a place of relaxation. Insomnia through over-thinking ruins my day-time hours. I knew I had to find a way of quieting the 'chattering monkeys' in my head. Eckhart has, with appreciated humour, made me feel 'normal'. Now I understand how and why thoughts get a grip on my attention. Now I feel aremed against un-invited thoughts.

    I can really appreciate how people like Eckhart Tolle and Alan Wallace, who speak about complex topics like consciousness and meditation, don't need to flaunt a certain 'image'. They don't seem to associate very much with the 'New Age', 'hippy', self-righteous fad that often comes with worldly and philosophical interest. No long hair, no eccentric clothing, no tattoos or piercings,.....just honest people. Even the way they speak is clean and good-natured, with very little influence from the degeneracy of pop-culture.

Understanding how the ego is at the root of many problems is far more helpful. I no longer meditate as it does not really change the problems caused by the ego. Being aware of the ego is very important and eliminates self inflicted problems that we blame on others.

    Sure, if you’re focused on the present moment, you won’t be ruminating on your problems. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have any problems. If you don’t have any money and you’re homeless, that problem doesn’t go away merely because you stop thinking about it. I know Tolle spent some time homeless, and he didn’t feel like he had a problem. But it’s possible to have problems and not realize it. Being in a state of ignorant bliss is no use if your life falls apart around you. If I close my eyes while driving, the other cars are still there. And what if you’re out walking and an angry dog chases you and bites hold of your leg? You can focus on your breathing all you want, but the problem still exists.

    As I wrote earlier, The Present was great for maybe the first half. But then I read that if we don't use our spirituality we will go to the back of the line and have to go back through the animal kingdom to get back to where we were. The author is confused about that (we never fall back from the human kingdom to the animal kingdom or lower). Also we are not part of the animal kingdom. We are part of the human kingdom and differ from all other animals in that we have SELF-consciousness. He is wrong about humanity's recent evolution (past 10,000 years or so on). And he is wrong to believe we go to a physical heaven after this and live perhaps up to 1,000 years old. Totally incorrect, I'm sorry. The book was really hopeful up to this, so I am sorry it veers off into these wrong tangents. The best esoteric sources available to us (Alice A. Bailey, Henry T. Laurency) are quite clear about where we came from and where we are going.

    Don Baker This book helped me understand that life is infinite, thus perfect and balanced. Also, the part about our deceptive animal mind is pure truth, evidence all around you. Those explanations allowed me to comprehend life in a new way and truly enjoy it. I agree with you about some parts, and see the flaws in this book, but this is not a place to discuss about them. And those flaws are not the reason to dismiss the book, for sure. TruthContest has done great job in defining the truth, but this is just the beginning and of course there are some incorrect parts. That's why we all need to join the contest and contribute. The Devil (our animal mind) is dividing us and thus preventing us from knowing the God/the truth/life.

  • @donbakerseattle

    @donbakerseattle

    Hello Vladimir, I'm glad that the book helped you. I think whatever approach resonates with you is what you should use. Eckhart talks about those things as well, the way our mind deceives us from the infinite. I don't understand why this is not the place to discuss it. This is where people discuss Tolle's ideas. You add a plug for this book that you believe is more clear and complete than Tolle, in an attempt to redirect his readers. If I disagree, should I not comment? I wouldn't promote a book that has some major flaws in it, maybe saying it's great until page so and so, and then don't read further. No that wouldn't make sense. The book claims it is the best collection of truth on the planet, and I find that not to be true. I haven't dismissed the book, but I would suggest those parts I commented on be removed until better information comes in, since they are wrong and will put wrong ideas into readers heads. I will post a comment on your forum directing to information about them. I am just a student of esoteric, so I'm not trying to lead anyone anywhere. But I do see room for improvement. I was very skeptical of a website that collects people's comments and collages a truth from it, since most people have only fragments of truth. But there are some good points in the book, so I'll offer my thoughts for what it's worth. Thanks Vladimir!

  • @trippygiphy6127

    @trippygiphy6127

    Thanks for understanding. In order for us to unite and evolve, we should be working together to define the truth/life. The truth=that wich is=this eternal present moment. That is the core of the book, and it is the truth that never changes and is same for all of us. I also disagree abot some parts of book, and I'll joing the discussion gladly. That's the whole point: one place for all of us to contribute and help definine the truth. ''Most people have only fragments of truth'' - that's the point, sir- we can know the truth only if we unite and everyone donates a fragment, to build a whole sculpture :) Everything should be based on hard evidence and logic, and I agree that some parts of the book don't meet that requirement and should be removed until we are able to explain it better, as you mentioned. Hope you got my point about importance of TruthContest, despite some current flaws. If we just compete with each other who is right, we won't progress. "Together we stand, divided we fall'' :) Blessings, Don..

    It's odd because I remember being like this as a child. I think we all probably are. If you can think back that far as a child; do you ever remember a time where you grumbled about the past in you head or went on and on to yourself about past failings. Or constantly worried about the future. No you did not. You simple were. You played and enjoyed your life ( I would hope so though not all children are blessed with a good life and that is a crime in itself). I think that's why your time as a child seems so long yet it is the shortest period of your life. 10 to 20 seemed like a very very long time to me. I recently turned 40. 30 to 40 seemed to go in a flash. I think when we are children we do not yet have much past life pain or suffering to complain about. So we all need to be more like our child like selves at times and just simply live in the moment. Be in the present and not in the past of furutre.

    Justin Stuart - Children are just enjoying the state of being, time is everlasting. I remember in grade 4, 8 years-old, it was a huge event when one month ended and a new month began, the school day lasted forever - generally boring waiting for it to end - and between after school - 3:30 PM - until dinner - 6:00 PM - lasted forever, full of events and adventures. On the way home from school, my friends and I passed a golf course and we would look for golf balls in the bushes and sell them to golfers for a dime or a quarter. With our newfound cash riches, we would go into the golf club and buy a chocolate bar - Oh Henry - and eating that chocolate bar - with its peanuts and wafers and chocolate - was a transcendental experience. Dinner lasted forever. After dinner, watching a Star Trek episode with Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk and some aliens was a long, drawn out Shakespearian drama... now the days and months and years flash by faster and faster... cars and mobile phones and TVs I've owned flash by not meaning much... the only thing that stays is the love of my parents - both gone now - and love affairs with girlfriends and the loyalty of good friends... And the joy of being.

    The essential ingredient of progression is thought....! It is for the very reason that people do NOT think that there is a distinct lack of progression. Mindless psycho babble and personal opinion is not thought, the average person probably has very few thoughts in a year.

    Eckhart Tolle is really a modern day Desert Father except he’s not religious. Remarkable really. Such a gift this man is.
