Curiosities:
Allariz preserves a beautiful urban complex declared a Historic Artistic Site in 1971, with one of the best preserved historic centers in Ourense.
It was the residence of nobles and kings, among them, Alfonso X "The Wise", so we can find numerous palaces and emblazoned houses.
Its name dates back to the Swabian kingdom, when Vila Aliaricii was created in the 6th century.
Allariz almedrados are one of the most appreciated desserts in Ourense. The first weekend in September a fair is held where you can taste the most typical sweets of the region.
The sculpture that we see on the walk represents the Festa do Boi (Feast of the Ox), celebrated during the week of Corpus Christi. Legend has it that on the outskirts of the town, there lived a colony of Jews, who made fun of this festival. The neighbors were tired of this fact, so in the year 1317, a knight named Juan de Arzua led the procession mounted on an ox, while the companions began to throw ants and spears at them. Since then the tradition has been celebrated every year.
Various legends revolve around this town, such as the Sackman and the miracles of Santa Mariña, the latter I will show you in future videos.
