My brother has deadly food allergies and when my family was informed of this when he was around a year old, the doctors gave me a fake epi pen for me to practice on him in case I was the one who needed to administer it. He’s 3 years younger than me so I was around 4 when this happened. It was very valuable for me to know that even as a young kid, I could save his life if I ever needed to. He is now 20 and has never needed to use one but he still always carries one.

When working as a camp counselor, we had to practice using epi pens on each other with fake ones before we started work every year. Never had to use it, but I did have to lecture a parent that their kid couldn’t be in my class after telling me she was allergic to cats and dogs. I worked with farm animals, and the kid was sneezing like crazy a few yards away from the animals.

The oxygen to go really helped my Mom when she had pneumonia. She waited days to get treated so I bought her some of it for the car ride to the hospital. I always like it when professionals talk about themselves in a "how the hell am I a professional" attitude because it kind of puts real professionalism into perspective, showing that the things they're capable of are actually quite possible with dedication and effort. Also imposter syndrome is endearing to me. I'm a professional software dev myself and I feel like I'd fail my own interview - don't be afraid to try and fail, people!
