Good on you sister for pursuing it.
I did surgery recently. It was done privately. My surgeon use a private facility and it was fully equipped. Had his anaesthetist, assistant surgeon, nurse and medical doctor. Thank God

Yes but a lot of these surgeries in Jamaica doesn’t facilitate you after so therefore you would’ve to go elsewhere for aftercare
Another thing people don't do enough these days is to get second opinion. Don't just take what one doctor tells you.

Should be charged for murder and the family needs to insist on an autopsy. Which doctor can sign that death certificate without knowing what killed her? Lady accept no death certificate for your sister until an autopsy is done!!!

Can't charge him with murder. Cause the legal statue for that would be it was a pre meditated act, and he did the procedure sole with the intent to murder her, both of which are not true, at least I hope so. But negligible homicide perhaps. Just sayingm

His doctor’s license should be terminated period end of story and he needs to be charged for murder. His negligence cost a life that he could never bring back. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Justice for Melanie. May she rest peacefully.

Do not stop fighting. He's not a good doctor i could have lost my sister just the same from the street drugs hes using on patient instead of real anesthesia.
Well this is a 1st for accountability in Jamaica but it still doesn't go far enough. He shouldnt practice again.

I’m a medical malpractice defense attorney and this doctor’s actions are indefensible. Of course, that’s assuming the sister’s account is accurate. Anesthesia dosing is no joke. The fact that he transported her that way suggested he was trying to hide his error, which was probably a contributing factor in a patient already seizing.
@paradisesunprincess

Why are the doctor's actions indefensible? That news clip didn't even say what the cause of death was. The fact that he transported her in his personal vehicle suggests that it would have taken too long for an ambulance to come get her. That's why he took her himself

I would think if you're performing certain procedures in your office an ambulance should be on standby...ijs
I'm so glad I saw this news accidentally. Melanie is my dearest friend, and I was so upset that she died and I didn't know what happened as I'm overseas. Melanie is a wonderful nurse and a very humble and nice person. We talked about her coming to the US to work about 2 months before I heard the news that she died. I was so looking forward to her coming. I pray that the family will get some justice from this case.

So why do you all keep showing St. Ann's Bay Hospital on the clip, this doctor does not work there.....come on man.....take St.Ann's Bay Hospital out of it.
The doctor should have stayed with the patient and accompanied her to the hospital. Incompetence and negligence contributed to her death. There is more to this story, which only the doctor knows himself. He shouldn't be allowed to practice and hold accountable / charge. Surprisingly, an autopsy wasn't done. This goes to show that doctors covered for doctors. The police also played a part in the cover-up. Good on the family to pursue. The next step is to sue.
This is so wrong on all levels.. criminal charges should be placed against this doctor..his doctor license should be terminated and doctor should not be allowed to practice doctor in any parish.. civil law suet and criminal charges...wake up Jamaicans you and your family members life is at stake...just facts.. respect people opinions and motivate yourself... freedom of speech
This is carelessness, this doctor should get more than suspension

@user-ky8do9vw3t exactly and that lady was my cousins wife 😢
You see, this is the damn problem in that country. Once the person arrives dead, an autopsy is mandatory. Cuz law enforcement needs to know if foul play is a factor. Secondly, the patient should have been transported by ambulance so she could be stabilized on her way to the hospital. It seems to me the patient had died before she left the doctors office and there was an attempt to cover up what really happened. Now, to be fair, accidents do happen, but when a person lose their lives through medical negligence some one has to pay for that. One year suspension means nothing. What I find some of these doctors are doing they are taking on surgical cases in their private offices which should really be done on an outpatient basis in a hospital and people are needlessly losing their lives because of this.

Many do not know that every procedure that require anesthesia is high risk. That is why they give us that consent form with all those disclaimer to sign. This! I'm a returnee and have had bad experience with private docs snd the best care at public hospitals and clinics.
Why didn't she the sister asked fir an autopsy?
My mum died at the Black River Hospital in 2022 and from day 1, I knew it was negligence and carelessness, just the Entitlement alone when you are trying to get answers is enough. The Healthcare system in Jamaica is a Butcher shop.
Seemed he didn't have a nurse or other medical assistant present. I wonder if there had been prior complaints.
This story is quite disheartening. This doc is a one man show. One need an anesthesiologist to administer anesthesia. A nurse to monitor vitals. Cobbler Khan's license should be revoked. I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't done something similar before and took up practice in Jamaica where lack of accountability in high places is at an all time high

I would sue him and bring criminal charges
He should not be allowed to practice ever again. You cannot give such potent medication and not have antidote on hand and he obviously gave her too much. One year suspension is ridiculous.
This is very sad! An autopsy should be done!
That's what happened to the JUTC bus driver that died at the private doctor's office off halfway tree road. He took her In his private car to KPH after giving her medications .
It is so sad. A beautiful soul just gone like that. Pursue this case Dyan. He killed our sweet Sherrol.
More of these investigations should be done, but most of the time poor persons don't have to resources and are not knowledgeable concerning their rights.
Only one year’s suspension for taking a life ?! Ridiculous! Doesn’t the family know that they could have hired a pathologist to do an autopsy independent of the government?
Full time person's act on behalf of there family who die carelessly, for two years doctor feeds me on medication I didn't have complain for then they covered for each other..
Sister should’ve gotten a lawyer at the time her sibling died, hence an autopsy would’ve been requested, she also stated she is for trained and the doctor instructed the husband to “ keep pumping without stopping to blow breath , as in mouth to mouth cpr” if I’m not mistaken that’s the new way of cpr “
The health system in Jamaica will never be better until health practitioners are held accountable for malpractice. Too many persons suffer unnecessarily at the hands of doctors and nurses who use shortcuts in their practice! This is one such case! Was this practice even properly certified???
He should have been banned for 30 years
So did the family get their own private autopsy done
She needs to sue him..
Something is seriously wrong here. Sadly, unless the family pursues legal action I doubt there will be justice in this case
Something not adding up why take her in your private car she was already dead come on family seek justice for her ?? one year of vacation nah nah he should be in jail
What was the "local anesthesia? Why wasn't a autopsy/toxicological examination done ? Exhume and do an autopsy ?
One year not enough, they get paid
This is foolishness, he should be changed for murder one year suspension???He souldnt be able to still practice medicine again
This scare mi..I dont trust these private doctors when they perform surgery at their facilities..BTW should be prison sentence not suspension..hope the sister don't stop..smh
That is still not enough for the loss of someone's life.....there should still be an ongoing investigation, exhume the body and do a proper investigation. This for now he should be out of practice for at least 3-5yrs. Wit 4:41 h the evaluation. I yr. for a life alot of negligence is going on and drastic actions MUST be done! Thanks for this lady's sister 🙏🏾
Terrible..He should never ever touch a human being again..
This is terrible! My condolences to the family.
Well if the police did not order an autopsy why didn’t the family order a private one?
That's the only punishment he gets? He then gets a reward of practicing again, oh boy, everywhere in Jamaica is corrupt, police n all!!!
Justice is needed. Too many times doctors get away with negligence and aren't properly punished.
i had a bad experience with this same doctor in Kingston i did a colonoscopy i thought i was going to die i was in terrible pain during the whole procedure i have never experience anything like that in my whole life i am so sorry for this woman that die it takes her life to bring this man under scurtiny
Her sister is an Attorney-at-Law.
Whooooooie, that doctor need to get a check up 😅
I met in a car accident end up with a lumbar herniated disc spine injury ,here in the US I was told to take the injection in my back I said nope, first the doctor told me the side effects us it can raise my blood pressure,,and blood sugar, really if u drink too much water it us bad so why not tell me the possibilities, I studied for myself and what I learnt they can keep their educated self and their injection, I tried to to know the dangers of what they will administered me 😔 ,,some thing happened in her head ,,
Oh my God this is terrible ! I am honestly afraid of our health system here in Jamaica
Investigate every doctor at St. Ann's Bay hospital.
This was probably an intravascular injection of local anesthetic (lidocaine or bupivacaine) … Lethal when advanced medical equipment and personnel are not immediately available despite ACLS . Condolences to the family

Local anaesthetic toxicity????😢😢😢 Sounds like local anaesthetic toxicity.... could have been an extremely high dose or accidental intravascular administration. Even in a minor procedure done under local anaesthesia, the surgeon must know how to manage such a complication. If not, then a certified anaesthesist should always be present. One only has a few minutes with the right intervention to save the patient's life. My sincere condolences to this family. May God comfort you during this sad period.

Why in the world would a hemorrhoid procedure require anesthesia? Bwoy oh bwoy Jamaica...
Total rubbish. Why wasn't a procedure of this nature done in a hospital?
now i see why all those sudden death
This is very , very serious. Of course an autopsy should certainly be done. This is a horrible thing to have happened to this young woman. How very sad.
If the patient had previous underlying health conditions she should be closely monitored.
That is murder, many died like that and because no one take it up it just sweep under the carpet, if you no know weh u a do why u want to perform surgery, just imagine how many more 😌 ,,returns to practice 🤔🤔🤔🙄
Natta Bay Hospital is like UWI 3/4 a who go deh nuh come out
Wow 🙄
OMG. My sister went there last year for a stomach procedure. When my sister came out in the waiting area my sister was a wreck. My sister is i nurse and she was so out of it from the anesthesia she could not help her self. I was upset with the way they have patients laying in the waiting area for recovery. My sister was saying the anesthesia the anesthesia her gave me was not good. She was complaining how she was in a dark place from the anesthesia ..hours after recovery my sister could not help herself she had difficulty walking. Also I saw patient popping on themselves in the waiting area and I was fussing with the fat gir working there.. she's another person who is not fit to work with patients. She was laughing at my sister when she couldn't help herself from the anesthesia. Talking about ''hot gall no hot now"'.. my sister who's a nurse did say that the anesthesia he's using is not good. My sister exact word is it seems as if the doctor is using Street drugs to the way her head feels after the anesthesia.. i knew that Dr was no good from my sister visit.. my condolences to the family . Do not let that man get away with murder.. the system in Jamaica allows a kind of qwack doctor to enter the country and setup shop .
Sad

Sounds like local anaesthetic toxicity. Very very unfortunate circumstances.
Unfortunately, probably nothing major will become of this, unless it is about someone well known. That’s Jamaica
This is sad and scary. We are not sure if some of these doctors, based on this outcome, should be practicing.
The family needs to request the autopsy...don't wait on the cops
@02:20 Was she intubated? If so, then you are supposed to give continuous breaths non-stop simultaneously with chest compressions. Unless you are the only one with the patient, then it's 30 chest compressions pausing to give 2 breaths.

Most times private doctors perform surgery by themselves..greedy n no want to share the money or employ additional people .smh
People can be allergic to anaesthesia, and it seems that is the case. Nothing could have saved her unless epinephrine was administered.
So no criminal charges were filed?
This is appalling!! so in one year this man will return to taking lives.

One year alone?????!!!!!!!!!!! Seriouslllyyyy????!!!!!
Cant they still get autopsy? It's not up to the police. The family can order one
Where is the MINISTER OF HEALTH in all of this? As usual missing in action! Only when these malpractice affects the rich/Upper-class then serious actions are taken, but these malpractice happens daily to the lower class of Jamaicans, and there are no alarms!🤐
so how is this not murder ? this person should be fired and jail. like even if she got off suspension who in they right mind gonna trust this person or the hospital to do any kind of medical care on them?
What did he give her, oh my God
He will get no patients that's I can say. Also, the police did not have to be the one to order autopsy; the family should've insisted that one is done for their own closure 😢 This is why I'm so afraid of anesthetics, they even have to give this for doing colonoscopies and endoscopic procedures. I had to get sedated to remove my wisdom teeth and, to God be the Glory he kept and i am here today because of his grace and mercy. God, thank you for all that you continue to do and, i pray that you will hold the hands of all who pass through to see this today or anytime at all. Let us all come to ask for forgiveness and change our hearts to serve you, in Jesus's name, Amen.
I'm confused ...did this happen in St. Ann or St. Mary?
No that counsel is not competent at all.
Without pointing finger or being a racist this is a practice within the Indian race. Khan last name is an indian man. We had one in Grenada from india he was not khan but he was named the butcher. Every patient that went before that indian doctor he cut their chest down and they died on the say day no matter where the pain was coming from. One ten year old girl went for appendix and he split her chest she dies the same night. A wife went in for tummy pain, he split her chest, she died on the table. The husband went the same week for pain, he split his chest and he died that night. I was about 14 but I remembered the petition that was going around asking to send him back to India because he butchered thr patients. They said ever patient that went before him died because he split their chest. This give me a fear of Indian doctors you know and i will never go before one. I watch Indian doctor with a keen eyes and will refused any medical treatment from them no matter how good they are. I cannot forget the 10 year old who went to high school on Friday, took ill that weekend, went in for her appendix that same weekend and Monday morning we heard she was dead. We could not sure but we could get him out of our country. I trust Cubans doctor 100% over any doctor on rhe world because they do their jobs with love and not for money.
Gail's time Jamaica come on
The sister or husband/N.O.K.can have an autopsy done privately. U hope they do it. The doctor taking lives not saving. He should not be allowed to practice until this case is finished and on house arrested should he intend to fly out. Kmt
