I found this talk to be captivating and full of wisdom. The best use of 93 minutes of a KZread video that I've experienced in a long time. This talk has opened up a whole new way of living for me personally. My desire to commit to this is now stronger than ever, especially as I'm now in my fifties. In this talk, Abdal Hakim Murad mentions close contact with fellow believers. What if, like me, you happen to live in a rural part of England, far away from a mosque or any Islamic community ?

The beauty of Islam for me is threefold ; Its Universality , Its diversity in practice and the latitude of Sunna , and its Tolerance and acceptance of the 'other' with compassion . Someone posed a question as to why Alcohol is not banned in the UK ... I think I should add that Islam does not impose its opinions on others and Muslims only avoid alcohol out of volition tolerate and avoid and be wary of those who indulge and behave aggressively .

Secular churches/communities don’t require any sacrifice. Religious people have to follow rules, this costs has them come back to a community that shares their experiences and world view. There’s nothing sacred in a secular community, there’s nothing to motivate them to come back. I’ve been a lifelong agnostic, now at 25 I feel like there’s been a cost to my lack of religion.

I’m not talking about his islamic sources. This lecture did not cite ghazali or ibn rushd etc. This talk from what i can remember 2 months ago (when i made my initial comment) discussed the medical benefits of the sunnah in an empirical sense. So findings from modern science were used to demonstrate how excellent our sunnah truly is. I’m talking about these scientific claims. For example, rituals leading to changes in the brain as a result of neuro plasticity. If a scientific claim is made, a reference should be given, which in this case would be a peer reviewed paper available on pubmed. This provides the listener with an opportunity to dive deeper into these topics and benefit more but also to ensure the statements made were accurate. I’m a huge admirer of the shaykh’s work and benefited greatly from this talk. I hope my tone of writing doesn’t misconstrue my intention. I just believe that a lecture based on scientific claims require references.

No, the proof for the sunnah comes from our Hadith tradition. This lecture did not prove our sunnah. This lecture used scientific evidence to display the wisdom behind the sunnah. I just wanted references for the evidence so I could learn more. I’m not sure if you understand what I’m trying to say so I think its best we both move on. Have a nice day and may God bless you.
