Im happy i gave Median Xl a try. Honestly it revived my diablo 2 experiance

Some of the Uber bosses get a little out of hand later game but still a lot of fun trying out all the new items , skills and builds. Trying to make a few guides myself but the but the mod has so much to offer and is still being updated consistently with new content.

I enjoyed watching your playthrough of Median XL. In the end; more games = more videos = more fun.

it ABSOLUTELY is addictive as fuck. after d4 fail and d2r not catching me too much Median Sigma and Project diablo 2 really made me addicted... such good mods omg

No it's diablo 2 on steroids

The best items accessible for the vast majority of builds are Sacred Uniques, which cannot be crafted. The enhanced Runewords are amazing, don't get me wrong, but they're made to be transitionary items until you get that insane Sacred drop. The end-game really is about hunting for that special piece of gear, very similarly to LoD except that they've adjusted the drop tables to make it less asinine to find the gear you want. I'm not saying it's easy, it's a much more difficult game than Vanilla LoD, but more because the fights are difficult than because it takes literal months of gameplay to find a single piece of gear. I'd say it's a great mod which is well worth a playthrough, especially given that it's free. I honestly don't plan to go back to LoD, and I've been playing D2 since 2004.

Thanks for the Direct 3d tip. I was having trouble with screen tearing and the glide setting felt like it cranked the gamma up way too high. Direct 3d looks just like normal Diablo II without the unicorn vomit. MedianXL is much like I remember it, but I'm finding the lack of a loot visibility toggle to be really irritating. Having to hold buttons down for loot and run gets old really quickly.

Are you using D2stats for filtering? I find that somewhat helpful and you can just use the notifier when you want so you don't even need to hold the loot buttons down

@@MrLlamaSC I haven't tried it yet but it seems neat. I'd still prefer just having item visibility as a toggle but I can see the filter being more useful when I get into hell with the sacred items and stuff.

There is no need to change it to D3D to change the colors, just go to the settings menu and lower the contrast.

Yes, you can use Multires for bigger resolution (but you probably shouldn't go bigger than 1024x768, since the game wasn't designed for higher, and it would be like cheating), and PlugY for bigger inventory with stash pages. The simplest way is to probably use D2SE mod manager program. Getting the new UI is impossible. Frame rate is the same as in vanilla.

At the start I was very hyped. But the entire content from level 1-105 is basically throwaway content that doesn't matter, save for your class charm and the tran athulua charm. So you get relevant content from level 105 - 135, which is ok for a mod I guess. The challenges are varied, fun and challenging till you hit 125 and the purify issue. Purify is a skill that can damage bosses that are otherwise immune to damage. On 120 the skill is ok. But on 125 purify fights against the witch and valthek can range from 10 to 20 minutes and are insufferably tedious due to one-shot mechanics and lockouts. These fights are not fun. Not fun is basically the theme on 130 as well: 2 purify fights one of which has a lockout and one-shot mechanics, while the other lasts for 30+ minutes due to the boss being immune to purify for 90% of the time. The final fight on level 130 consists of a 30 minute wait until 2 bosses kill each other.... it's no fun at all... The game's strongest point is truly 120. 125 is still ok and 130 is shit. Samael on 135 is a decent boss. But beware Uldyssian, Lazarus and the Void on 130. These three encounters might completely break your enjoyment.

"Invinsible and invincle monster that I hate so much" We've been there in d2 as well, those black souls that shoot bunches of lightning out of nowhere especially in act 4 and baal run (at least they are still visible and non invincible) :) I am both love and hate them at the same time. It's quite hilarious to watch my own character died at lightning all of a sudden when I have crappy gears with low lightning resist.

It's for tiered bases. Not sure if it works on honorific bases but it might? Either way, it's not too important once you get into Sacred gear.

Great game, I don't know if it's still possible but in last version of Median XL I have got Blood mage merc and since he does fire dmg only, I have crafted him amazing +fire dmg gear and enhanced it with full +fire dmg MOs. He was almost doing more dmg than me haha. Try it out if it's still possible.

​@@MrLlamaSC A lot of people say to use act 5 barb merc, he is the toughest one in Sigma. He needs full STR gear because of amazing scaling from STR. I cannot test anything since I didn't try Sigma yet (sold pc and bought macbook). I wonder if it's very different from last version of Median. Anyways, I see you doing alright without a merc, maybe just need to tweak your gear more and focus on crafting some BIS uniques or RW :) I wish I could play this, too bad I have a macbook now and cba installing windows on it. I am waiting for POE to come out on PS4 now. I love D3 on PS4, kinda fun to play chilled on the couch. Great streams and videos man, keep up the good job. Been watching you for a few months now and glad I have found your channel.

It has it's charm, but the changes are far too drastic. The game barely feels like Diablo 2 anymore. I could never really get into it for longer than the first part of Normal, I'd always just return to either vanilla or Eastern Sun, which I consider to be the best mod for D2 of all time (despite some problems).

Playing eastern sun rises currently with my whirlwind barb and dance of death zon. Very enjoyable mod and I recommend it (my character is just around lv80+, still have a lot to explore). Love the skill whirlwind so much basically just grab myself a barb in any mod even though he might not be as efficient compared to aoe dps.

Glide is visually much better than Direct3D ... my opinion. And this is probably the best mode for Diablo 2.

Only like a few dozen of people out of thousands can beat all the ubers in this game. So yes, there's lots of challenges. There's some easy, medium, hard and almost impossible uberquests.

my largest gripe with this mod is that it essentially destroys the 'thrill of the hunt'. you craft pretty much everything for upgrades, it makes the drops much less interesting or exciting. wanted to love it, but after getting through the newb phase and realizing I have to craft everything , struggling to want to play it any longer :|

I think the "hunt" is still there in the way of looking for bases that you're going to craft and such (and there are also some really sick unique/set items), but I know what you mean. It's a little different there for sure. As for looking stuff up, ya you do end up spending a little bit too much time outside of the game. I think they could come up with a slightly better solution here to make it a bit more obvious for beginners

Good reiew. Through the entire video MrLlama sounded like 'medial is good, but...' And this 'but' thing sounded like 'I played Median and it is good, but now I'm back for good old Diablo 2'. Thanks for review. Too blurry, too grindy, too overcrowded. Back for Diablo 1 The Hell 2.

Suggestion : when you are describing parts of the game consider overlaying a video showing that. It's very uninteresting to see you talking and your character doing nothing.

You could have been slightly clearer at the start; This is a full conversion mod. Once installed, even the default launch icon will start Median XL, not regular Diablo 2. That is why you want 2 seperate installs if you intend on playing both.

Hi, I downloaded the mod Zy El recently but just feel too difficult when starting up and certainly I'm not doing things correctly (so I play other mod called eastern sun rises first before I dive into zy el). Do you have a link for newb guide for this mod? I tried to read the pdf but is insanely long (good thing though because it seems like have tons of depth). Btw is the lv10000 cap is true?( lv10000 seems like have to grind for a very long time; but I kind of wanted to play this mod because of it :) )

My char just was doing the blade spiral and the electric beam from his sword. Both require me to be in melee range, they just have an AOE attached (Which unfortunately is pretty necessary for any character to compete, even in vanilla)

Hey Llama, look for AVALON mod. Man that is quite beast, and its still diablo II, unlike MEDIAN XL that changed evrything. For 1st try you dont have to go far. My challenge for you is : Enter Tristram on normal. P.S. Try Gheed (and dont start crying).

I just finished playing this for two days, While i love alot of what they did here, I can't call it good... or even fun after you realize they've decided to go with cheap over challenging. So many stupid things with no means of countering it, ala invisible untargetable mobs that are going to hit you before you even know they are there, Way Way Way more monsters, and they made defenses worse so you just eat damage all the time, no real way to sustain health, Sure you can get some life steal and some life on attack, when 30-150 life on attack is Nothing at all, when you have thousands of hp, and leech is just as bad as all of these aoe attacks seem to only leech from the One guy you hit, base block chance of 1-3 So thats worthless until level 100+ evasion skills get worse as you level somehow, and defense just seems to not work. I had like 30k defense with the character sheen saying 7% chance to be hit, and then would take 20 hits each that stun you and you die.... Also somehow the game just lags....not sure how thats possible on a modern computer but it does, quite heavily at times... all that being said i appreciate and respect all the work and passion that went into this, and i can tell the people who made it love the game. I love the crafting system, new enemies, I just wish they took the time to balance it and make it less of a death fest and more enjoyable/less annoying to play. because losing 2/3rds of your health to poison every 10 seconds with 78% poison resistance is not fun x.x

i play this mod for many years (2009 my first mxl experiance) and i have cleared a few Ubers there in Hardcore if you die to anything e.a. Fireblood is basically a gear check and your defense is weak its pretty important to increase your resistance over 75 i think 80+ is a minimum at least in HC. And it got a lot of End-Game. 30k defense is like nothing :) but yeah its hard to get your first character rolling but once you understand gear progression, crafting and what is important in this mod even Hardcore is pretty well balanced since sigma :)

@@dolphinvoltage3339 its very differen, Path of diablo is basically farming only like maps in PoE "might be more now did only play it like 1,5 year ago and was bored" and median is farming + idk 30 unique bossfights with level progression from 105 to 135 (very hard imo uber elder is a cake in comparison) if you are interrested just go to the Median webpage and look at game/documentation/quest how much there is. they include all the lore and evils of Diablo books like legacy of blood and more. Also one of the first People who worked at GGG is the original founder of Median and i think he did itemisation for early PoE but im not sure.

Your first paragraph is just due to you being a new player that doesn't know/understand things. This isn't a game/mod that you can master in 2 days. Just because you played a bit and suck at the game doesn't mean the game sucks. This isn't one of those modern games that holds your hand and serves you everything on a silver platter. This game is hard and requires you to learn, read and think. Once you get a bit more into it and learn things like how to play, gear, and build your character, those problems mostly go away - you know how to solve them. The same thing you're describing would happen in normal D2 too, and you can prevent it. What probably happened is that you were probably running, which in D2 reduces your defense to 0, so you got hit a lot more than you expected. Or, since defense doesn't help against spells, you might have gotten hit by a spell instead. You get stunned if you get hit for more than 1/12th of your HP - it has nothing to do with the mod, it's like this in normal D2, as well. Once you're stunned (more precisely, put into hit recovery), any of the next hits that land also stun you. So a way to get around this is to not run around many mobs, increase your HP, and get more +x% Faster Hit Recovery stat. You can also get +x% Chance to Avoid Damage, get more defense, level up, get damage reduction/absorb/resistances, keep moving, not get surrounded, etc.

@@ivanjelenic5627 No sir i have thousands of hours in the base game. The simple fact is this mod is a work of passion not of profession. They worked hard on a game they love and as a diablo fan i can appreciate that. The simple fact is they use alot of cheap shenanigans to kill you rather than actual challenge... Not that diablo 1-2 did not but these are outdated tactics. Like i said alot of what they added was really cool. And alot of it is just plain stupid if they make the process of learning the game fustrating and full of cheap deaths. They did a bad job. This is my opinion and i am entitled to it. and you wont change my mind by saying "you suck" Ill meet you have way and say i suck at a poorly balanced mod to a game i love. Im aware of what stunlock is. the problem is not the mechanics its all the stupid bullshit they do to ignore the things you can to do prevent it, like being amped up on crazy juice while untargetable and invulnerable to get a cheap shot on you. Its silly. Its a big stupid really fucking neat, but not very good mod in the balance department. If you say oh those defenses dont work you need to avoid damage mods rather than reduced damage mods, thats just proof that it's poorly made.

Looks like sht. When people do "serious" mods, they never know the boundaries. NEVER.

This video "review" barely touches upon the game mechanics and doesn't really fully digest what this game is. It doesn't really go through the end-game content of clearing ubers, rifts, and other end game content. This review is 1 dimensional and doesn't really cover how the multiplayer works or other player interactions. This is more like a my impressions video than a review of the game. Either way, glad you like it. Median XL is a great game.

I'm lvl 130 now so I could do another review, but I don't think it would change much honestly. Has some interesting boss fights, has some awful gimmicks/mechanics (*cough* purify *cough*), has some really cool crafting, etc. also ya just a single player review.
