MECUM AUCTION REVIEW! - Honda 250R, 350X, Big Red, 200X, 250SX and ATC 70's!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Mecum Auction in Harrisburg PA back in July had some interesting sales. The Red Chain Bandit was back in full force, but I think the buying community is smartening up! Most of his sold listings were roughly sold at what they may have sold at on the open market. Some even below market value! It was interesting.
Here's my take on what went down. Enjoy!

Crazy how a $40 aftermarket seat cover, maier fenders, some spray paint, and tire shine can triple your profit on a 3-wheeler......

Great video as always. I’m in Pennsylvania so I always see the Candy Shop units for sale. I learn a lot from your videos, I’m just starting a hoard of Hondas, I have a 84 200ES, 85 200M, 85 200X , and a 88 TRX 125. Great information you give on all the units. Thanks for making all of your videos.
That cool silencer you liked on the 2nd gen 250r is a vintage Richter Privateer. Later on it was marketed as RPS. Richter Privateer system.
You are so correct with Tony R selling junk! I got a 86 250SX which supposedly had a NOS tank which I found out leaked fuel in my display after the JB Weld gave out. Tony needs to go

Great video Preston, it sucks the auctions bump up all the prices so much, but I guess it’s the same in the automotive world as ATC market… making things that aren’t actually all that great almost unaffordable
I saw the same sorts of crazy prices on vintage stuff years ago when the boomers were hittin their 50's, its just our turn to pay the piper on our toys we had growin up. Nostalgia costs!

Great vid. You sound like me when I go to an antique tractor show and looking at John Deere’s and get frustrated when they paint yellow items green and green items yellow. The worst is when they “restore” an old JD and paint it the new green instead of classic green. Lol

10:56 the hub is different too
These are the prices that people are asking on Face Book Market in Florida, and most of them are almost double on the price of what they really are worth. I have a 1985 250 Big Red that's all original and on the rough side and it runs and handles great, I should get $4500 for it as ridiculous as the junk that's for sale out there. I'd say you're spot on with the pricing being to high Preston, I don't mind paying for something that's nice and original, but when to many aftermarket parts are added with painted blingy, it really takes away the character away from the machine, and makes it feel cheap. Thank You for the Video 👍

Funky fork boots- you can get 4x4 shock covers at the auto parts store that are pretty close to the right color and fit decently. Did that on an 85 200X build years ago...

Great video. My question: are these being marketed as spot-on restorations? If they are, then that's not cool. However, if you just want a rider, they may be ok. Lots of shortcut stuff, though No way you could do an OEM restoration at these prices.

That Tecate 4 sold for cheap. Those are so rare. The people at these auctions I have no idea what they are looking at. Probably why they get such high prices on the machines like 3 wheelers that are slapped together. Also, some people won’t touch a Tecate because it’s pretty much an expensive trophy on shelf. Anyone who values a Tecate 4 doesn’t want to ride it because if breaks your screwed. Could be a year until you find a part. Lol.
18:29 85 black/white warning
Had I known about this auction I'd own the Tecate.
If it says: The bid goes on... That means that it didn't meet the reserve. No price may mean it has no reserve, and it didn't sell (because it doesn't have the yellow and black sold emblem), or possibly it didn't make it to the bid because of time restraints

@@ThisOldTrike I may not be 100% correct, but I have watched some of their auctions. It's interesting to see what the classics are selling for. 3:42 no heel guards
Also, I find it crazy that people are paying true restoration prices for rebuilds, and not very good rebuilds at that. I dont mind rebuilds as most of my machines are rebuilds and not true restorations. Both have their place. There is just one more ATC I would like to add to my modest little stable, a 2nd gen 200X.
