    I_2 = (7(1)^3)/12 + 7(10.5-7.85)^2 = 49.74in^4. Yes, In the video it appears that he makes an Algebra Error. for the Final Answers when done correctly I am getting: NetI= 235.13in^4, N.A.= 7.85in., Max Tension = 1.60 ksi, Max Compression = 0.64 Ksi.

    The whole time I looked at the beam section as if it is a side profile and so it never made sense to me. You are literally the only one that explained (with your hands) how the moment acts on the beam, and now all makes so much sense. Out of all my course mates (about 240 people) nobody knows this. Bad students or a bad teacher? Nevertheless, I you have thanks!

    How do you know which side is in compression or in tension, I cannot visualize it

  • @connoraustin8434

    @connoraustin8434

    2 жыл бұрын

    Material towards the bottom has to get longer as the surface is stretched due to the direction of the moment applied thus in tension. Material towards the top is being squeezed together due to the direction of the moment thus compressive.

    shouldn't compression stress be -.609 ksi? not positive

  • @tbenvo24

    @tbenvo24

    Labeling it as compressive is equivalent to using a negative sign. So if you labeled it as compressive and used a negative sign that would actually mean positive (tensile). I hope this helps
