The Magnus Black Hornet Ser Razor 4 blade is what I boiled down to a few years ago. My years of searching for "the one" ended after I started using them. Short/stubby , 1.25" wide, .059 thick, nasty & scary sharp. 7/8" wide bleeders .040 thick which are thicker than the main blades on most other broadheads. They fly perfect. They will do the job every time with no visible damage to the head even after passing through an animal and sticking in the ground.

Good video, good info, thanks. One thing I's be interested to see is given a bow tuned for points at a given all up weight, how far off the point group do particular broad heads group on matching shaft and weight, before retuning the bow to bring the groups together. I suspect this would be a reasonable guide to the flight characteristics of any given broad head.

Inside Out Precision series is on fire! Really enjoyed this video!! QAD Exodus, they are super sharp and won blade of the year a couple of years ago. BUT, they sometimes will take on an erratic flight and that must be due to some aero dyanmic issue with winds and what not. I swear if a NY Yankee's pitcher could simulate what they do he'd be a sure HOFer. Regarding the Grim Reapers, they are devasting, I hope they improved their manufacturing--they might have been acquired a few years back and their quality dipped a bit. The Trypans are super impressive with the titanium but just don't stalk hunt with them. The blades pop out easier if touched.

I had issues with the Hyperdermics with the collars out of a HTR but normally use lose 30% penetration with wide blades that open on impact but with bow speeds I was getting 2" right impacts with G5 Montecs with my Vertix and my sons Triax but the Wasp Drones being a short compact design fly in the same holes with the fieldtips and blow thru deer in stick in the ground pretty deep and they spin true and align nice with vanes with the Orings with Easton adapter rings where Montecs you cant with 5mm FMJs and Axis

my personal experience with the new Rage hypodermic NC is one that didn't open on impact with soft tissue, and left absolutely no blood trail even at the point of impact. One that when the blades open the end of the blade that sticks out to catch the hide will nick the blade on the opposite side, and if making contact with a bone or rib shears the blades off. Also have tried the NAP Killzone and stopped using them because the deer hair was jamming between the blade and the notch the sticks out to open the blades on contact, which prevented the blades from sliding back to hold the blades open. Shot two deer in two different seasons and both failed due to the same failure. You could manually open the blades but they wouldn't stay open since you couldn't even force the slide to move to hold the blades open. Both resulted in no blade trail further than about 10 yards from point of impact. Both arrows when recovered looked like they had been wiped clean of blood.

I always have both fixed blade and expandable broadheads in my hunting quivers. i use both types for different reasons but my go to fixed blade has been the slick tricks, they are durable, sharp and accurate. i settled on hypodermics for expandable heads since they are super accurate at longer distances and they leave one heck of a wound channel. the grim reapers are a really good design but were not quite as accurate with my bow/arrow setup.

Shot the grim reaper whitetail special last season and the deer went maybe 40 yards. It seemed to have worked well but was surprised my arrow didn’t have a full pass through. Now there could have been many reasons why it didn’t pass through entirely but the shot was within 15 yards, broadside, well placed and my setup is; Hoyt Turbohawk, 70lb, carbon express pile drivers 250 spine, 26.5DL and 27 arrow length. So i expected a good amount of kinetic energy to barrel through the animal. I’ll be using the Trocars this season. I’ve had them as my backup for the last few years but stayed with a mechanical bc im not super confident my bow is properly tuned. I definitely do not shoot as much as I should, too, but I am confident up to 30yards - nothing past for hunting. Cheers.

Of all the slick tricks, the Viper tricks are the best imo. For Magnus, I have had great luck with them all, but particularly love the black hornet ser rzrs. With the 2 bleeder blades as well, the blood trails are crazy, the accuracy is amazing, and the durability is on par with any other broadhead I've ever shot. Shot a rabbit this last year with some slick trick standards and broke the blades off when it went into the ground, ferrel was fine though :) I was bummed I didn't have my magnus on though I wouldn't have to be buying blades lol. But tbh, I would've just bought a new pack of heads because Magnus is really a great company.

Ive used swhacker broadheads for years now and have had no problems. Used several different broadheads before them from fixed to mechanical and always found a down fall with it brand but not with swhackers. I currently shoot the 2in. But started out with the 1.75in. Both done really great lots of blood. Have had several deer go no more then 25 to 30 yards. And have had a few go less then that. I made a bad shoot on one about two years ago it was really far back and high but still recovered the deer around a 100 yards or a little more but had no problem following the blood. Try them out. I don't know if I'll ever use any thing else

Swhackers are pretty good also. I’ve shot 3 deer so far with the 3” crossbow model this season and the hole is as big as my foot!! But I love the Grim Reapers. I’ve shot 6 deer this season with 5 different heads. 2 expandables and 2 fixed. The Slick Trick Crossbow 4 blade gave the best blood trails and put the deer down within 40 yards. I also shot 3 pigs in Hawaii with them and they bled like “stuck pigs”. Heart shot a doe with the Magnus 150gr. Buzzcut and she didn’t bleed at all but only went 40yards and I saw her fall. In my experience with shooting over 300 deer, they will die within 100yards if hit well (heart or double lung) with any broadhead you sling at them. What I also have learned is that they will bleed better if hit with a 2” or bigger expandable and are easier to find if hit in the heart/lung region. I hate to say this because I love fixed blades. Maybe I’ll try a 3” fixed blade lol. Hope this helps. Good luck y’all!!!

I tried Grim Reapers this year. Hard quartering away shot on a 15 yard doe only opened one of the 4 blades. She ran a little over 150 yards and the only reason I found her was because I injured the front shoulder and she left a weird mark in the dirt where that leg kept hitting the ground. No "good" blood at all, and only a few pin drops within 40 yards. Local bow shop didn't believe me until I showed them the entrance/exit holes. Looked like a bad papertuning tear

Rage is nice, but I just don't trust them. I have heard more stories about them not opening up( granted they are probably the most used expandable in my area so you will hear more feedback from them). I use grim reapers mainly for how the blades are retained, due to not having the collar/o-ring. Also with my set up, I can play around with the different types of expandable grim reapers without having to adjust my sight. The whitetail special and whitetail extreme for turkey. The carrifour and the 1 3/8 three-blade for whitetail and the mini-mag for elk if I ever get the chance. When I first got into bow hunting, I wanted a fixed blade. The guy at my local pro shop said to give the grim reaper a try and I am still a believer since seeing my first deer shot and just drop to the ground. They are generally priced good enough to where if they break im not heartbroken about it. Probably going to hear the rage fans comment on how rage is the best. They are good and I have seen what they can do from buddies shooting them. Me personally I just can't feel confident due to the collar. Thats just me. Good video

I’ve been using fixed broadheads for 39 years, and I’m thinking on switching to a machanical broadhead this year, I want something that flies exactly like my 100gr field point, I saw at the 2019 show Innerloc Carnage it has a rap that goes around the blades, nothing sticking out that can drift the head, once the point hits it expands the blades from the bottom... I thought the fancy raps were a little corny, but the concept of these broadheads seem really good to me ..!!! What do you guys think .. ???

Oh, the single blades with or without a bledder blade can be resharpened to a hair popping mirror edge. Actually, they can leave a very good blood trail on both sides. It just depends on where you hit them & the sharpness of the blade. They can also be considered a Plan B broadhead. The one when plan A fails. I thank you for steering youth & lower poundage shooters towards a fixed blade. A sharp CoC will take much less lbs of force to penetrate. We all strive for a clean kill. For 60+# bow, it's your choice. FYI- Magnus Black Hornets & The serrated version (Black Hornet Ser Razor) can be a hot seller with a 059 dia. thick 11/4 cutting edge with .040 thick 7/8" bleeders (Flaying Battle Axe). Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with Magnus.

David jefferson hey David, I have been shooting GrimReapers for years great results deer rarely go 40 yards. same setup as you last year and shot thru large white tails with 400 grain total arrow setup (100 grain heads) easily. Thru the ribs and out the opposite chest, deer went 20 yards. Just my 2 cents.

Not a mechanical fan for Elk, BUT I'd recommend. you try/test the G5 Dead Meat. Done a lot of shooting and testing with them - I find they have better penetration and less expansion failures (as in, zero) than others. Check them out and let me/us know your thoughts....

I’ve broke a rage on a whitetail does shoulder and had two bucks broadside and shot behind the shoulder and went to the guts. And shot the grim ripper at a 75 lb hog broadside and got no penetration and never found the pig or arrow so I don’t know how much penetration I actually got. But I have killed multiple deer with rages. I just don’t trust them to always work and have to wait on the perfect shot and still not have a full pass through. And blood trails have more to do what you cut than the size of cut.

I just spent $1,100 on a new bow today, $200 on arrows last year. Then there is all the other gear. The entire point of all that stuff is to put a broad head through the lungs of an elk. It would be quite strange to cheap out on them or buy something that might not function.

Went to Walmart and bought some $6 Allen fixed blades and killed the next 4 doe and 2 bucks I shot. Total horse crap on the Rage. Shooting Reapers this year, hoping for a better mechanical blade with it

I run Rage Trypan and I can confirm that they slap2.5-3 inch and carry a 2" wound cavity. My average distance of travel for a heart shot is about 20 feet depending on animal. They are excellent and fly just like a field point. Only thing to watch out for is the collars are sensitive so carry a few extras.

Yeah, that's my only issue with the Trypans. I never comfortable if I'm stalking en route to my stand. Brush up against a small branch and they pop out of position. Other than that they fly as well if not better than a field point.

Just curious why I never see innerloc broadheads on any of the tests? I shoot the carbon tuners and they preform very well in my opinion and my fiancée shoots the slice by innerloc as well and both these heads are tuneable to your fletchings. Just curious why these heads or this company ever make or included in any videos on KZread? As far as I know they are an American made broadhead, but yet don’t even see them in performance videos......

It's human nature for people to be defensive about their own personal choices. If something works for someone, they declare it the best. I've shot Thunderhead 125s since they came out back in the '80s. I don't know if they're the best, but they've never let me down. Mechanicals came out as a gimmick for guys who didn't know how to tune their bows. Paper tuning, proper FOC, correct spine....all important for getting fixed blade heads to fly right. But....you guys go ahead and keep paying outrageous prices for those mechanicals. If you're happy with them, more power to you.

I shoot Grim Reapers, and I like redundancy. I buy orthodontic bands (fresh bag every year from Amazon) and put one on each head, even though you technically don't need to. It has nothing but a positive effect. The amount of force needed to break the band once in the animal is very small. A lot of people put bands on the Grim Reapers as back up.
