At a young age, Javier was diagnosed with rheumatic fever which damaged his heart. Nine years after his first surgery, he received an Abbott mechanical heart valve. Since undergoing the heart valve repair procedure, he has been able to significantly improve his quality of life (QoL) and is now enjoying retirement with his family.
