I really love the fact this Mecha G is less of a copy and more a twisted mimicry of Godzilla. Everything is meant to be the opposite of Godzilla, skinnier, blockier spines, larger, dead eyes, and longer arms and claws for Grappling. I love this design

I really like how this Mechagodzilla has attributes from every Mechagodzilla incarnation. It’s controlled by an alien (Showa), it was made by humans to defeat Godzilla (Heisei), and it contains the skeleton of a dead Kaigu (Millennium)

Until everything is wrong with it in the movie. The physics performed by MG does not make sense since it does not have the body mass to withstand its own photon scream or get blown back by its own breath. Newton's third law is about equal opposite forces. It would have been more believable if MG had all of its rocket propellers firing at once to prevent itself from getting knocked back to some extent. The other thing is tossing Godzilla around with one arm, even with the rocket propellers, is ridiculous considering its body mass. Typical Hollywood bs logic and terrible choice of MG design.

I loved how they made this MechaG distinct from it's past film versions, but now I'm eager to see what the Monsterverse Gigan and Mecha King Ghidorah could be.

I kinda had a theoretical idea on how Gigan could be depicted in the Monsterverse. In the 3rd solo Godzilla movie, Apex creates Gigan in the Roswell facility that was mentioned briefly a couple of times in GvK. Apex creates Gigan as a form of backup or contingency plan by capturing a dormant Titan and converting it into a cyborg, but like Mechagodzilla they lose control of the cybernetic Titan, it escapes the facility and goes on a rampage and hunts down Godzilla like the Terminator and they fight occasionally through out the film while Godzilla is persuing Biollante who was created by a different organization.

Y’know, the novel heavily implies that Ren may not be so much “dead” as “merged and blended into Ghidorah’s remaining consciousness with his body now possessed by what is left of Triple Gold.” After all, while they found the skull after MechaG’s defeat, they found no sign of the pilot. Electrocuted dead bodies don’t usually get up and run away, even in the Monsterverse. Furthermore, it’s implied that MechaG’s fixation on killing Godzilla actually came from Ren’s hunger to do so, that part of his said absorbed consciousness was contained within the mech and that’s where it got its personality, not just from the San head.

Now if only the movie got me to invest in Ren at all, that could be intriguing...

The MonsterVerse mechagodzilla is a pretty good amercian interpretation of the character, combining traits of the showa era mechagodzilla and Kiryu. I really like his design and the backstory behind this mecha, and the fact that they used ghidorahs skull to power mechagodzilla was a pretty cool idea. This mechagodzilla was a beast in the movie, he actually gave Godzilla a run for his money, I also never thought I would ever see kong and mechagodzilla fight on screen, it was pretty awesome to see.

I didn’t really like this mechagodzilla, ignoring the skull crawler scene he had less then 10 minutes of screen time ( or at least close to that ) and was just plot armor so kong wouldn’t die. Other then that it is a cool mechagodzilla but like, really? Having a big 5 kaiju be used just so another kaiju will survive? Basically monsterverse rodan 2.0

Yeah, it parallels to some point godzilla design. It also blends many previous versions characteristics.

Mechagodzilla's dorsal plates were originally planned to fire off as drones to attack his opponents. But this was sadly removed.

They literally deleted a lot of weapons so godzilla and kong could have had a better opportunity, but still it wad amazing seeing him in action, beating the shit out of Godzilla and kong, he was literally the BEST part of this film

I always thought MechaGodzilla was a deadly adversary before, but Monsterverse MechaGodzilla took it to a whole new level. It took the combined effort of Godzilla and Kong to destroy it for good.

@@Goatix1954 mostly true, in Mechagodzilla's debut film he was defeated by the combined efforts of Godzilla and King Caesar. In the following film Mechagodzilla had Titanosaurus as an ally and Godzilla had none, but he was still able to defeat both. In Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla fought Mechagodzilla 2-3 times mostly one on one but Rodan did fight Mechagodzilla once and later after Godzilla was temporarily defeated Rodan sacrificed his life and energy so that Godzilla could defeat Mechagodzilla. In Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla was the villain and it's the only movie where Godzilla and Mechagodzilla got to fight one on one without any ally's. In the following film Mechagodzilla had help from Mothra and eventually the Mothra larvae twins.

The worst thing about this machine is that humans had the ability to build this monstrosity but they don't have the capabilities to build a decent AI or a proper pilot interface to maintain control. Machines are designed with control first, functionality second.

Mechagodzilla had to have been the most *difficult* of Toho's "big five" to translate to the Monsterverse Ghidorah and Mothra already posed challenges (him being an alien and their OG designs) but a giant robot Godzilla is something else entirely I'm glad this universe has slowly transitioned from the gritty realism of 2014 to more fantastical sci-fi because it's the only way Mechagodzilla can work tonally. Legendary killed it!

Just like the rest of The Big Five, the MonsterVerse iteration of MechaGodzilla is #1 in my book. It's like a composition of every MG into one: the mean look and cruelty of the original, the heavy bulkiness of Heisei, and the agility and spiritual possession of Kiryu, with a mix of Terminator and classic Transformers into its design. The most that I love about his design is the near human-like proportions being intentionally opposite to his intended namesake, because you really feel the cold, merciless cruelty when seeing this badass machine in action. Instead of spamming his guns like past iterations have, this one just straight up beats the living shit out of Godzilla with quick ferocity and brutality.

Probably the most physical MechaGodzilla has ever been in combat other than his Showa and Millennium counterparts. I would honestly feel rather sorry for the Heisei monsters such as SpaceGodzilla or Destroyah if they were battling the MonsterVerse version of him since they weren't well equipped to close-range fights. Either one of them would've been outright dominated due to the length of his arms and Hollow Earth energy enhanced strikes as opposed to numerous beam spamming that many of the kaiju in the Heisei era tend to do.

@@Hola-kh2ky Showa kinda did, but after getting his magnetic power. In the following movie the humans had to help him a bit. Heisei could only do physical attacks as Mechagodzilla tanks it because of its armor. Along with that, it also absorbs the beam, giving it the power to use its plasma grenade. But when MG became Super MG, he absolutely demolished him till Rodan sacrificed himself to heal Godzilla’s secondary brain. Millennium was a back and forth, and while Godzilla was able to give MG (Kiryu) a good match, Kiryu wounded him in GXMG, before defeating him in Tokyo SOS the following year.

That doesn’t make him the strongest. I could also easily say it’s dependant on the Enemy, but that’s not the case here. This Incarnation would have trouble with Kiryu, since he has the Advantage in terms of Agility and Manoeuvrability and a bigger Arsenal. SuperMechaG was Super- Durable and his Arsenal is very powerful too. And Godzilla was tired.

This incarnation of Mechagodzilla amazed me. Due to the physical limitations of human actors in costumes, most kaiju fights were ranged based instead of melee. Excluding Godzilla’s flying kicks and “flails(?)”. This form of the MechaG exceeded impressively in the physical department. Plasma punches that can be boosted by rocket thrusters for MAXIMUM IMPACT, a drill tail, a defensive hide and damn can he pull Godzilla. But of course his ranged attacks were impressive such as a stronger laser beam than Godzilla’s atomic breath and missiles to irritate kaiju and can definitely demolish aircraft

I'm really appreciating that G1 Transformers aesthetic now that you brought it up as a design inspiration, I was kind of wondering what the Mecha G design reminded me of when I first saw it

I'm surprised you forgot to mention how Ghidorah possessing Mecha-Godzilla was a homage to what happened in Godzilla Against Mecha-Godzilla where the DNA memory of the old Godzilla's skeleton took possession of the cyborg and like Monsterverse Mecha, he went on a uncontrollable rampage.

Best version of the character in my opinion. I love the dark metal and bright red to his design. I like his theme (probably the only memorable thing from the soundtrack). The sound design behind him is iconic too, I LOVE that deep boot up sound, the shifting metal parts, and the roar. Plus having his story meld in with King Ghidorah by having him basically possess the Mech was a stroke of genius. Definitely a highlight of GvK.

Second favorite iteration of Mechagodzilla. Monsterverse Mechagodzilla's design is different but in a good way, trying out something new but still sticking to the spirit of the character. Can't go wrong with its new weapons, origin and just badassery it admits really brought me to the first time I got introduced to the character in the form of Kiryu, who is still my number one favorite incarnation.

Really love this iteration. Though I wish a lot of plot elements had gotten more fleshed out in GvK, like how Apex got the skull from Jonah, Serizawa's character, and it's handling of Skull Island, which I think could've been a great stand in for Monster Island. Alas, it's still a great design and love seeing Kong and Godzilla have a kaiju bar fight against it

How come humans can build this practically indestructible robot and duplicate its power source from another world yet not have the ability to build a decent AI to pilot it? It fights like a human so why not let it be piloted solely by a human without another consciousness added to it.

⁠@@funveeablethe intention *was* to have a human pilot control the robot, It went wrong though.The company was arrogant and meddled with nature and got thus the consequences were dire. There's also some amount of ai built into it to anticipate the attacks of other monsters it's fighting (at oeast according to the novel( but all of that got messed up with the implementation of hollow earth energy. It made a new corrupted consciousness, sampling both from Ghidorahs memories and rens.

This is legit my second favorite version of mechagodzilla. Nothing can beat kiryu, but man does this guy match him.

i like how every mechagodzilla, you can tell it came from a different era of design, and they all are some of the best to exemplify said design eras.

This is my favorite Mecha G. He is pure evil . You know you're dealing with a devil when the King of the Monsters and the Prince of Skull Island have their work cut out for them in a single foe. Fantastic video! love it! :)

This is my favorite MechaGodzilla incarnation. I know it looks blocky-looking, but that's because it's more modernized than the too-futuristic variations of MechaGodzillas, and plus, it's incredibly strong, and a metaphor for how technology is making things worse, judging how it was possessed by King Ghidorah and turned against humanity, seeking revenge on the one who sent the incarnation of Satan to Hell, Godzilla.

However, whereas Galvatron rebelled by taking control of the other 50 drones and turning them into a Decepticon army, Mechagodzilla simply killed his creators before going on a rampage in Hong Kong.

@@TornaitSuperBird I knew that. I'm just saying that Mechagodzilla and Galvatron have very similar backstories. Both were initially beings from outer space that were killed and reborn in mechanical man-made bodies that they then took control of to rebel against their creators.

When I first saw the leaked images of the toys I thought the design was a little off but upon seeing it in the movie this dude instantly became my favorite iteration of the character just barely squeaking past Kiryu.

Definitely one of the best versions of Mechagodzilla. I always enjoyed the character move when it was a villain. Since I avoided the rc spots prior to GvK’s release, I was legitimately surprised at the reveal.

Took a lot of self control, I’ll tell you that. I wanted to see the leaks just like how I did when KotM was being made. However, I wanted to be thrilled and viewing every leak ruined that.

Funnily enough, I had a “Legendary Godzilla Movies Marathon” yesterday! Glad to see some details I missed!

Honestly, really like what they did with this incarnation of the character. It's great to see an evil MG again and I look at the visual design as a breath of fresh air. Also that team up at the end. *Chef's kiss*

I know we never really get a answer for what that Hollow earth energy is. However, my guess is it's ancient/natural radiation. It was mentioned how earth was covered in massive amounts of radiation in the past. The Hollow earth could house the last remnants of said radiation. As for Mecha G I really like this design. And him absolutely beating the snot out of the G man was a sight to behold. Me and my bro knew that the fight would've been even if Godzilla didn't fight Kong right before. As always keep up the amazing work gents.

This version and kiryu are my favorite versions of mechagodzilla. It was so cool to see it fight kong and godzilla in the cinemas.

I love how Legendary decide to make King Ghidorah as Godzilla 'forever arch-nemesis' like Batman and Joker or Spider-Man and Green Goblin.. hence Heath Ledger version of Joker say "we are destined to do this forever"

Good work on Mechagodzilla of the Monsterverse my friend! This guy really is the Ultimate Destroyer and he doesn't want to be controlled by no one. Truly an engine of destruction.

yeah i agree that if Godzilla had not fought Kong earlier, then Godzilla wouldn't have gotten such a bad beating that he received in the final product. Also, I know that though highly unlikely, it would be awesome if MechaGodzilla made another appearance in a future Monsterverse film to pay homage to the Toho film "Terror of MechaGodzilla", but instead of being controlled by Ghidorah's conscience a 2nd time around, the humans have control of him and have him work alongside Godzilla and Kong to fight against a more powerful monster such as SpaceGodzilla, which would cool to see. Anyway, Wikizilla, great job on the video and I can't wait to see your future videos.

No offense to Adam Wingard and you by proxy but I don't buy the whole "Godzilla was too tired to fight MechaGodzilla" explanation, not one bit. I can believe he was a bit winded from his fight with Kong, sure, but too exhausted to fight the robot? Nah! He clearly looked like he had plenty of energy left to spare for another fight, Godzilla was simply outmatched by his evil twin. a And of course this was Wingard's "impression" of it, so even him the director his word should be taken with a slight grain of salt when comparing it to what it is shown in the movie. Also, again no offense but I don't see how SpaceGodzilla would work in the MonsterVerse. Aside from a super contrived backstory, he's just a Ghidorah/MechaGodzilla repeat, but as a two-for-one package. Like, we already saw Godzilla fight an enemy from space and then fight an evil doppelganger...sure he's a mutant, but it's still the same concept. KOTM already laid the groundwork for a possible Destoroyah appearance with the Oxygen Destroyer, that's a good place to start.

I may not be a crucial fan of the design of this incarnation of MechaGodzilla (the "blocky" metallic aesthetic and humanoid body type just doesn't really capture it for me IMO) I do however loved how he was able to just utterly obliterate Godzilla left and right and never gave him a chance to fully retaliate in time other than firing his Atomic Breath which was quickly countered by the Proton Scream. Even if Godzilla was in better condition and full strength it still be a rather daunting battle for him regardless.

Same here. I loved that Mechagodzilla pretty much owned the fight between the two and that he was an actual threat. Really hate the fact that so many people think because Godzilla wasn't fresh in the fight, by their logical that means he would utterly destroy Mechagodzilla.

I remember first seeing the Mechagodzilla funko and loving how derpy it looks

The first leaked photo of the Mechagodzilla figure tricked me because it was blurry and where the photo was taken. I actually thought that Mechagodzilla had gigantic hands, as if he was going to be a kaiju catcher. I also had a theory that the battle was going to take place at skull island because of the credits of KOTM ‘19

Godzilla was spamming his atomic breath a lot in GvK so it's understandable how pooped he was when MechaG joined the fray.

Great video Wikizilla and great start in the monsterverse videos!!!! This Mechagodzilla is one of the most brutal versions of the mechanical doppelganger (though so is every version as well lol) as Mechagodzilla get possessed by a very vengeful King Ghidorah (Kevin anyone?) and singled Godzilla and proceeded to brutalized Godzilla and almost went in for the kill if for not the timely intervention from Kong!!!

The MonsterVerse Mechagodzilla is like the classic incarnation from 1974, where he burst out of the mountain and went on a rampage through the city. Just like the Showa version he prove to be very tough and Godzilla had to team up with another mammalian kaiju/king kaiju, this time King Kong since Godzilla teamed up with King Caesar. And just like his first defeat, Kong ripped his head off just how Godzilla did to Mechagodzilla from the original film, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla.

It's technically a cyborg but bairly. He has the soul or brain of Ghidorah in him but that's where it ended. I love how u can tell this mechagodzilla was not completed going off the skeleton look

I like to imagine that was a reference to kiryu in the millennium films as that was also cyborg mechagodzilla since it used the skeleton of the 54 Godzilla

@@PansexualDumbass9169 I agree but mechag 2 was my fav, it was the only version to actually almost kill Godzilla. Yes kiryu was fast and could fight but could take less damage and could go berserk

Technically almost every version or iteration of Mechagodzilla is either a cyborg, a bio-mecha, or has at least one organic component that makes him not completely robotic and why he is classified as a kaiju. Showa era Mechagodzilla is first seen disguised as Godzilla sort of like a precursor to the Terminator. In Terror of Mechagodzilla, Mechagodzilla is controlled by a cyborg girl named Katsura. Heisei era Mechagodzilla is created by reversed engineered technology from the remains of Mecha-King Ghidorah who was a cyborg. And we all know that Kiryu the Millennium era Mechagodzilla was created by using and building around the skeleton of the OG Goji, as you mentioned.

@Cristofer Andrade I don't count or hardly acknowledge City on the Edge of Battle MG because I wasn't a fan of it, and while it is mostly metal. The metal is actually nanobots that can integrate/merge with living creatures, which would be the closest thing to an organic component.

Yoo a new profile I’m finally early,

I was kinda curious about it, after the leaks, though I was too interested in the MechaGodzilla design, but after watching the movie, and seeing him in motion, it easily became my absolute favorite incarnation of MG

The end of GvK is a very good example of how something can be predictable yet well executed. I don’t think many kaiju fans left that film disappointed.

This is my favourite mecha godzilla entirely because of how it feel like something humans would make. it's not some perfect machine or work of science fiction, it's a giant metal box dino that litterd with weaponry all over the thing as if people were just using trial and error to see what works.

this is a highly masterpiece I finally got to expect
