Mechabellum - I Hate Hackers!

Ойындар

I'm drn and this is our fifth game in this week's tournament, here we're going up against EsperLion. They're off to a strong start with Quick Supply Phoenixes. Can we fight our way through some of the most obnoxious units in the game, or will we lose in the most frustrating way imaginable?
Anything you think I've done wrong or could do better please let me know, I'm always looking to improve both my gameplay and the video quality. Thanks again for watching!

Used to assume everyone knew what was meant when talking about Hacker Shields vs Fang Shields but that was just me being thoughtless and lazy. Only takes a handful of minutes to put up a quick tool tip so even if folks haven't put hundreds of hours into the game they can still understand what we're debating or thinking about. What a game indeed! That was insane. Loosing each round by a thread until the tables finally turned. I was so engulfed by what was happening I wasn't thinking about tactics! Perhaps the biggest strength of the hacker, from what I've seen as a noob, is that it can hack small units and make the big shot units focus and waste their shots on them. So they hack a small unit, and all your snipers and scorpions shoot at it, and by that point the next small unit is hacked. I wonder, why don't people go for the distributed hacker as an anti small unit unit

  • @Drone_101

    @Drone_101

    14 күн бұрын

    Yeah those hackers were surprisingly effective at making our slow shooters like Scorps and Snipers waste their shots! Multi-hack comes at a hefty range penalty and each hacker beam only works at 15% efficiency so it's slower too. Can still be good but needs a much sturdier front line buying them time to be effective. Otherwise you're just stealing 6 Fangs at a time that all die to Tank or Scorpion shells.

    I love siege mode on scorpions as a niche little counter to people playing hackers into them. Makes them much less likely to waste shots at your own converted chaff as well as making it difficult for them to shoot your other units if they get converted given how close the other units tend to be to them.

    Early-mid game when I was making the decision which chaff unit to upgrade our opponent took extended range on his Arclights and started levelling them up. Decided I didn't want to risk getting blown out by Carry Arclights. He only had four in the end but Crawlers really struggle vs Level 2 Arclights and Stormcallers with splash will be just as good vs the Crawlers as soon as they get tied up. We could definitely have tried to force more Crawlers onto the field but our main issue was poor chaff clear more than our own chaff under performing. Just my thoughts anyway! I'm far from perfect and I'm sure missed a fair few opportunities to swing this game in our favour earlier.

    Mmm, love when a match ends in fire. Very nice comeback, the wasps were able to survive both stormcallers and hackers, which helped them not have that traitor-execution-stagger the fangs tend to get. With your mention of preferance for phoenix over marksman (heh) early on this game, why didn't you pivot to that? Is it just that they'd be a mirror with less experience, or were the snipers already in play too much of a commitment to make that pivot?

  • @Drone_101

    @Drone_101

    15 күн бұрын

    Yeah, was a satisfying fight back for sure! The Phoenix vs Sniper choice is close enough to be debatable, so if I've already got two snipers and don't want to spend the 50 to unlock Phoenixes I'll just accept my lot and work with what I've got. If we had gone War Factory I might've bought a set to tech them so when we pump them out en masse they can have a bigger impact. Money is always the limiting factor!

  • @WerdnaTheRed

    @WerdnaTheRed

    15 күн бұрын

    @@Drone_101 So more that you'd already put a commitment to sniper then, gotcha. A 'replacement' pivot by selling the snipers would probably have then fallen into the mirrored but less experience problem then, yeah? And / or removing experience from your board is not great (maybe unless the unit's been thoroughly countered). In this match, your sale of the typhoons came in clutch, but that was more because they had levels and you got them at a steal so not really the same scenario.

  • @Drone_101

    @Drone_101

    14 күн бұрын

    @@WerdnaTheRed Yeah, you can only sell one unit per turn so I'd rather be re-shaping and recycling higher cost units that've been hard countered or wouldn't be effective than stressing about Snipers unless we really didn't have anything better to do that turn. I'm probably more likely to take Overlord with Range if I want a bigger ranged pivot away from the ground based Snipers. Yes they're equally not great into Phoenixes but they can massively out scale them in the late game!

Also mech rage late arriving typhoons would have shredded his back line and with barrier the aoe storms would have done no dmge. Not sure our fangs even got to shoot at anything other than hacked units being honest! :D Good call on the Wraiths blocking the Mustang fire, would've been an option for next turn, but will admit I'm not a fan of buying them into fully developed Phoenixes with levels. Really like the change to enhancement module now, but I do tend to still use it for a similar role as before.
