+PrimusVsUnicron Considering it was released in 2009 and it's 2016... It seems unlikely. Unless Imagawa's going for a Mazinger show every nine years and will release Great-Hen in 2018.

Very good review! I enjoy this series so far and I'm almost done with it having only a few episodes left! I'm glad to see a backstory for Ashura since they are my favorite character along side Count Brocken 💕

I love shin mazinger z the impact Edition I watched it in 2020

the mecha that has the power of both god and the devil.............. Mazinger z Power on (that last part was from super robot wars alpha 3 sorry that quote comes up every time I think of mazinger z)

Shin Mazinger Z The Impact is a lot of fun and one of my favorite mecha shows of late, but it suffers from missing half of the story. Mazinger Z fans know that you need Mazinger and Great Mazinger for the full tale and Shin Mazinger hints at Great Mazinger's involvement but it never happened. That makes me a sad panda :(

Yeah, I remember when this came out lots of people said "screw this" after episode one. I love Imagawa but sometimes he gets way too artsy for his own good.

Well here's a fun question which would you recommend to new comers to the Mazinger series. Shin Mazinger Z, the Mazinkaiser OVA, The original Mazinger Z, or the manga?

Hmmm... tough call. I'd say if you want an adaptation that captures the feel of the original source material, Mazinkaiser is the way to go. If you want a more modern version (or if you really love Yasuhiro Imegawa) Shin Mazinger is good too. If you don't mind looking at material from the 70's the first Mazinger Z manga and anime aren't all that bad. It depends on what you're looking for.

well good thing Super Robot Wars kinda concluded the story specially with SRW V and X giving Mazinger Z an Upgrade to turn into Mazinger ZERO and Great Mazinger upgraded to Mazin Emperor G

I agree with you on the fact that Shin Mazinger is good. However, there are so many things in your review that I would completely disagree with. First, some of the fights are lifted directly from the manga, as you should be aware. When it wasn't taken from the manga, Imagawa's fights were just kind of dull. Jun Kawagoe does a much better job at making up his own battle choreography, as proven time and time again in shows like the Getter ovas (despite your discontentment with New Getter) and SKL. Second, the animation was frankly average except for a few select episodes. Third, the first episode, if you actually followed along, didn't spoil anything important. The only thing that it spoiled was some of the action scenes in episode 24, but pretty much all the twists were kept under wrap. That's because episode 1 was the first episode Imagawa did, and he made up a bunch of cool scenes. Then, he decided to be like Nagai, and just improvise as he went along and had a really hard time giving all the random scenes he created some background and context. The ending to the show in the beginning of episode 2 is kind of expected, because the show is told in media res. You're shown Kouji's defeat, then you get the whole flashback as to how this happened. It's a narrative style that not everyone can get behind, but it's not an objective flaw, rather, it's a personal preference. The animation in my opinion is this show's biggest technical fallouts. The problem is that the art is kind of inconsistent from episode to episode. Some episodes are heavily shaded, some episode change how Kouji actually looks like etc, some episodes are better animated. You also mentioned how the unusual plot structure. Again, I think it's more of a personal preference thing rather than a flaw. With that said, I like Shin Mazinger a lot, but the narrative will make both lovers and haters.

+Getter Zinger Fair enough statements. I know some fights were lifted from the manga. I did read it after all. I liked the fights of Shin Mazinger too, hell (no pun intended) the final battle was glorious. Jun Kawagoe is a decent director, I'm just not that big of a fan of his stuff (I admitted to liking Getter Robo Armaggedon and Kotetsushin Jeeg before). In media res is a trope that can work. However, I don't think it works in this case because it ruins the surprise of the Mycenae Empire and their return, something constantly foreshadowed and given heavy hints to in the show. I think Imagawa does a good job of tying everything together in a cohesive narrative and the pieces do fit once the story is fully unfolded. Feel free to disagree though.

It worked for me since I wasn't a big fan of Mazinger, or Go Nagai before watching Shin Mazinger. I never watched Mazinger prior to Shin and the first episode absolutely hooked me in. The first episode had things going on that I didn't understand, but this is precisely why I liked it. I wanted to watch the show to find out. I consider it to be one of the best single standalone episodes I ever watched. It gave hints of action, drama, betrayals, the whole package, without going into the details.

Will we ever get a sequel to this series?

What happened to Sakura in this actually is par for the course for her. Yeah she didn't do so well in the 70s crossover movies especially.

Shin Mazinger is good, but the character designs look quite girly.
