Texturas75 We Don't Exist...Beautiful. My friend bought me the tape of Too High To Die for my birthday, way back then. I played it so many times within a few days, on my Walkman, and when she came to hang out next, I wanted to play it for her. That was the song where my cheap-ass cassette-player decided to eat my tape. It got hurled against the wall, and smashed to pieces. I was surprised how mad I was. Rightfully so, though, I feel, although my friend may have been a bit alarmed.

I remember leaving the CD playing after "Coming Down" (last song on the album) then hearing a killer version of Lake of Fire. I miss hidden tracks.

@@RockandrollNegro That's the only studio version of Lake of Fire that I know and I love it. This CD is the earliest MP material that I've ever listened (I knew them from their mainstream singles).

It’s raw, gritty and roughly 2 levels above a garage band, yet it’s absolutely brilliant! Long live the brothers meat!

Haha the brothers meat. I call em that too coz Kurt Cobain calls them that when they come up on stage in the new York unplugged show. When I listen really carefully he says puppets really quietly. This is the brothers MEAT.. puppets

I love this song. 1:23 still gives me goosebumps after all these years.

Love this. Man, you can turn these guys' songs up to max, and it's still never loud enough! Maybe that explains my hearing loss. I was 12 in 1994, and these guys were SO amazing to me! I couldn't even explain how this made me feel. Sweet memories! Big fan of Conan, too, who had SO many great bands on his show! Yeah, 90's kid😉

Also, I just had a guy ask me, while I was at work, whether I thought Meat Puppets or Butthole Surfers was a better band name! 😍So happy! I said both were fantastic, and he said he never actually listened to them. I told him he needed to.

Now its coming back to me, i met these guys in a garage behind a bar in a small town in Idaho when I was 17. It was cool

Saw them first time with Black Flag and Nig-heist in Toronto in 1984. I remember them singing Tumblin' Tumbleweeds by Sons of the Pioneers.

Just saw them play in DC on 10/09/13 @ the Rock and Roll Hotel. Curt's son is now on rhythm center stage. Best show I've ever been to.

Okay So you were 35 when it was new. Not a particularly radical concept for a woman aged 35 years to be listening to rock radio in 1994.......

Their music was to raw and weird for TV, thanks conan for bringing them on your show and bands like At the drive in for giving them the attention they deserve.

Great guitar playing, great song

i really wonder how many live performances some of the people here actually ever see from bands... complaining about how they sped the tempo up for this live version. bands do this all the time. and this other guy whining that he changed the vocals around a bit, yet another thing bands commonly do, and especially did during this era. they sound 100% perfect to me, its not a horrible performance at all, its a 110% performance of that era. no one whines when cobain messes up every other chord.

I know its an old comment but yeah. Its art. a performance. it changes based on how the artist feels. this bands blows my ass away. I've known about them for a long time but I recently decided to give them another go and wow. I'm mad at myself for not diving deep sooner.

Meat Puppets started out in the punk scene early 80's L.A. ---by the '90's alternative time they were a little older. They blew us away in the early 80's I really love their "Up on the Sun" album.

Jon Jones i knew a few people in a former band that knew one of them, i cant remember which, I didn't pay much attention to details as they were mentioned among others, but I do remember whomever it was they were discussing was not doing great in the 2003 time period.

This music pretty much sums up what the world is lacking nowadays. Remember when music was magical? Now the only "magic" is money and government. Give me a time machine. I'm headed back to the 80s/90s.

Why is everyone commenting how bad the singing is, like the singer obviously doesn't give a shit. He's just doing what he wants how he wants it. It's no big deal it's just sloppy and that's ok because that's the style, I guess you could say.

We were at the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago to watch these guys on New Years Eve 1996? My sister got into a fist fight with the bass players girlfriend. Bass player showed up, late, with his pushy/shovey girlfriend who proceeded to shove the wrong chic as they pushed their way to the stage. Fun night. They sounded great.
