Measuring Resistance of a Powder

Ғылым және технология

In this video I describe an inexpensive easy way to make a jig to measure the approximate resistance of a powder.
This will work better if you always use the same amount of powder when you measure - for example 1/8 of a teaspoon.

Hey Leo! I know it's been a few years, but I wanted to return to this video to thank you again. Whatever carbon you were measuring, it's probably more conductive than you thought. Adequate and even pressure is key, I've found. High-end rigs actually use a piston, but even squeezing the plates near the edge of a table makes a big difference! I was able to achieve less than 1 Ohm (.71) resistance from my peanut shell carbon that I activated with table salt! This video helped me with the apparatus a lot, so thank you again!

This was really helpful as I produced some unexpectedly conductive pistachio shell carbon recently. I was thinking of a rig with my mini vise, but this is easier! Thanks!

I attempted to make this tonight out of a cut up gift card and less foil. Mine shorted way too easily and I was using strong fiberglass reinforced clamps. I downgraded to tiny clothespins and eventually settled on a 50ml full flask. I also had to mask BOTH sides of the rig, not just one. I think I have a semi reliable jig now...

Excellent! Yes, that's the spirit of experimentation and making things work.
