Easy way to move the adult beetles is to use a few small yogurt containers toss a food in each they all enter it to eat just pull the whole container out and put it in a new container, cuts your time way down on trying to scoop with a spoon.

Why not set the carrot on a old jar lid when you want to catch them? Pick up the lid and presto 50 beatels captured.

Do you have any recommendations on how to keep the worms warm? They are in plastic drawers like yours.

I have wrapped mine in blankets. I also have kept mine in these drawers in a cold garage where temps have gotten below freezing, and they all survived. They do not reproduce as much when they are cold, but they pick back up when it gets warmer. If you are looking to keep them warm all year to keep production at a max, that would require a setup in a warm location or a different setup that could have a heat mat on the outside of the bin.

Pets stores usually sell meal worms. That is how I started. The more you start with the quicker you can get a good colony going!

I like this, but you shouldnt throw out dead beetles. sometimes they die pregnant, and the worms will hatch eventually and eat the beetles from the inside out.

Why are some of my beetles not fully developing

  • @kruxn

Couldn't say for sure. Sometimes they just do not developer correctly. Most should be fine as long as you have warm Temps and moisture food items like carrots.

Do you not have chickens to feed the dead beetles to? The chickens eat those as well. Carrots are a WATER source, they eat the oatmeal for food, hence the name MEAL worms.

Nope, I do not have chickens. Yup, you got it, carrots are a water and food source. Oatmeal is main food source. I am glad this video helped😊😊. Good luck with your farm!
