41:43 (coming from someone that's german) the simplest reason as to why they say it wrong in the game is because most of the time game developers just don't bother to try and prounounce german/austrian names correctly because "its too hard" for the voice actors to pronounce and just go with the english-ified version of the names. composer is austrian. his last name is kreiburg, the way they pronounce it in the game is KREE-BURG, completely ignoring the i in "krei", so in this instance basically pronouncing it as CRY-BURG would be much better (and simply more correct), because it doesn't erase the e and i combination when you say it like that. our e and i's are sounded out differently than they are in english, so you can't just ignore the i in his last name, because it's wrong. so, the correction is right. hope that helped :3

Yup. I learn German and I was like “Isn’t it like Cry-Buarg” or something?” But to be fair, Orpheus and Alice are assumed to be English and probably don’t know German. Maybe it’s just an in-universe case of pronouncing names using the language you’re familiar with.

@@karntherandom1125 it's also because our r's don't have this drowned out sound that english does (i don't know how else to call it, the r sound is one of my biggest enemies while speaking english and i'd say i'm pretty fluent), our r's are usually rolled, so technically even then it still isn't properly pronounced, just like the "bourg" for burg isn't correct either, but german is a hard language to learn and speak so i don't blame non-germans for not being able to properly pronounce words and names the way they're supposed to, especially because they're usually taken at face value, we say them how they're written, which english doesn't really have the way we do. also respect for trying to learn german, hope it isn't hasn't been too hard on you. ich hoffe du hast einen guten tag! :)

@@aesopie Danke schön! Ironically my tongue and brain somehow figured out how to pronounce the R but not the more advanced grammar like the Dativ. It’s like, ok give me a question and multiple choice answers, I can answer it. But when it’s open ended (write your own) or speaking, I butcher it pretty badly. Back to the game, with everyone supposedly communicating in English, it basically means that Frederick is, at the very least, trilingual (German, French, English). That’s a very remarkable skill to have during those times. *Pouts* If his father didn’t deem him a failure because he’s not “talented”, he won’t be here in this wretched game.

@@aesopie Oh, also, I theorized that it’s an in-universe case of characters butchering another character’s name is due to the breakfast scene where they discuss about the Kreiburg Racecourse. Instead of calling her Marie (French) or Maria, Orpheus directly goes for the English “Mary”.

I run confined on characters that don't need it sometimes, because I get maps where looping can happen easily and I usually need confined for them. However, I don't run it on characters like Gamekeeper or Clerk since they can counter windows easily.

Most pro smileys don't run detention. They use insolence + trump card and in some maps with broken window loops they go for confined. Moonlit building is one of those places as you know. He didn't even get a chance to block that area tho. He had fast pallet breaking and from the looks of it I can say it's maxed 3 so it was most likely confined. If it was only at 1 or 2 it'd be slower.

A couple years ago, I named my succulent after Melly. Now it is literally the tallest plant in my house and it is still growing strong!

As someone that plays this game in the Chinese server, for some reason everyone there just forgets about this game being a cipher game and not a harass game, cause if someone get's down everyone just goes harassing except if there's someone that's a decoder, but somehow the cipher still gets follows up in the late game

(edit: yo, why am i on this acc?? anyway this is stray/tori pfft) Your pure absolute panic and investment in any and all Mellys' survival is so engaging haha awww- 12:00 (tangenting once again A) honestly for matthias being a kiter he's surprisingly bad at first chase adshjds- Louis + built-in flywheel are very neat kiting enhancements but you hurt yourself everytime you use Louis and that means the hunter gets directly closer to their goal of downing you. Like it definitely guarantees some kiting time and every chip hit would have been a hit if it wasn't for Louis, but still, it feels strange for kiting character specifically imo. It does give him very good rebound potential though, as you also point out at 15:20. In my head, for rescuing it doesn't matter as much bc your goal is rescuing, and not necessarily surviving. His debuff also punishes him way more when he's used as a rescuer as opposed to a kiter (bc if he's first target, his healing debuff will never be a problem unless hunter switches target). And like, a rescue against ability-dmg hunters is definitely easier with flywheel / multiple hits required than without. TLDR; I think his roles make more sense as rescuer-kiter than kiter-rescuer; but I suppose it evens out bc he can rebound with Louis after rescue. 14:20 that red light hiding was so satisfying hngg- 15:50 I'm assuming the heavy usage of support even when it's early is to counter-act the hunter's most important goal: eliminate one survivor. It allows the hunter to control the game much more easily and to play more aggressively too. It usually also means that you can only aim for a tie as survivor because of detention. So I'm guessing the rationale here is "we're gonna get swept if someone dies so we have to help them". As you questioned, it's also very possible that they factor in the time optimization of having 2 people decode late-game with acc decoding vs. having 2 people decode early-game while the 1st target is getting tunneled (plus 1 person having to rescue and rescuers having to rotate anyway etc.) I'm too lazy to the proper maths rn but there's def some minmaxing that can be calculated here pfft- 29:00 it's honestly annoying how generous the ability cancel timing is. like girl was alr done summoning the mirror but it still cancelled in like the last 1 frame or smth 😭 34:10 oh my god sadhjsd- I knew what was coming but the "...... M O V E" still slayed me. 35:30 I'm using all my braincells but I can't think of any value Naiad gets from top-persona either... huh. WHO KNOWS- 41:50 ik this came up on stream too but I wrote this before then so *throws* On Kreeburg vs. Kreiboorg: if you pronounce it in german, it _is_ Kreiboorg ("ei" as in "i" (me)), yeah. the "oo" sound isn't long but it's more of the u sound like in "sure", rather than the uegh-sound that comes naturally when saying it with english phonetics. (? idk if I'm using that term correctly haha) Personally I feel like it's common for dubbing of any kind to prefer to pronounce things in a way that "flows" more with the spoken language. Genshin got some critic for that as well especially during the SWANA-inspired region, since the majority of voice-lines just say the words and names in the "english-fied" way. Maybe it's also just me but when I have to say a foreign word in a sentence casually, it always takes me out of the sentence because I have to switch my voice (as in, the way how I make certain vocals, etc.??). So maybe that plays into it too. I'm honestly curious if Mary is actually intended to be written with a "y" ("y is very rare in german, and you'd more likely write it as "Marie") or if that was a byproduct of early idv localization. Since she is, maybe?? also austrian??? on some layer of drug-induced hallucinations??? lmao Personally I don't have strong opinions on this topic, I think it's fine to say things in a way that makes sense to the reader based on the language they are speaking in right now. but of course it would also be nice to get some more "original" pronunciation in media as well. It's always really cool and stands out heh Like to me, it's fine bc they are in an english setting speaking english, but someone actually speaking german for example would have to actually be correct or it'd break my immersion. Actually about the comment on taking accelerated decoding into account, at higher rank a lot of asia survivors actually wait for accelerated decoding before focusing on decoding particularly for the last two ciphers. Usually we hide/rotate or open chests(or heal if anyone's injured), especially for Joseph matches. Particularly in asia I think people are more tolerant of long matches, they tend to be more patient and wait it out(which is usually especially good against Joseph and Alva). Sometimes survivors will hide for the entirety of detention before opening gates against clerk too.

18:09 i can assure you they do. Back then the meta was cipher rush so in CN when prisoner came out you see a lot of people go triple decoder with a forward/mercenary. As of right now, the meta definitely focuses more on support and rebound kiting insyead of chiper rush so characters like anti/forward are incredibly game changing. As for cipher rush nowadays, i'll admit that it does exist but i'm going to quote one of idv tournament official host in IVL, uncle tonghua (tier 7+ player) "The game balance as in this moment VERY slightly favors survivors more. The cipher rush exists, however the bigger problem for hunters is the survivor's capability to work with each other. Against a team that coordinates well, there's just absolutely no way to play."
