He’s amazing at creating a character that is really easy to fall in love with but still has depth. And then most of his characters die and you cry. But he really makes you feel something no matter who the character is.

I read the book and cried at the end. I was a bit reluctant to know they had made it into a film. But the film really does the book justice. The characters of Lou and Will are exactly like I imagined them, and knowing the ending I was in tears again. I watched it with my partner and he was in tears too.

It is a great adaptation of the book. There's not a lot different in the book compared to the film. But I would still recommend you read it. I cried reading it.

just to let you know they left the whole louisa story at the Castle out of it

"... you think it's Lou's duty to save Will but in fact it's the other way around". That's true. He ends up saving her more than she saves him. .... Beautiful story but I still don't like the ending.

+Dane Mitch I know, right! It would have been a great movie with a positive, encouraging message if it didn't end like that. I'm glad when movies stay true to the book but in this case, I wish it was different. If the author still wanted him to die in the end, he could have died from complications instead of suicide.

i think everyone wil always hate the ending

I loved this movie. Sam and Emilia really brought those characters to life. I forgot that they were Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin, and that's when an actor has done their job. I cried at the ending. Such a beautiful story, although the ending sucked. I think that disability advocates have a right to be mad, but this story is about one person's experience being a quadrapelegic. His story alone does not count for the many individuals who deal with what he has.

Totally agree with you about not liking the ending, I walked away thinking how could he still do this when this young girl was willing to love him and accept him, but when I saw it the second time, I still thought about it but had different thoughts, and although its still sad he chose to do this, they obviously came into each others lives to challenge each other and Lou obviously gave some comfort to the character instead of being incredibly depressed. And its made me want to explore with my life cause at 43 I still havent lived my life to the fullest.

I think that was the aim of the book, to make you truly reconsider euthanasia, that did actually happen to me after reading the book, to feel the pain of the sick person, but also to reconsider the fact that for relatives this must feel like abondon, it's complicated

You’d think after years of watching this over and over again ( like more than 10 times ) and bawling my eyes out over and over again then years of not watching it for a long time, i’d be okay and more calm watching this. I stand myself corrected once again AND THIS IS JUST A SNIPPET AND IM IN TEARS . Thats how brilliant the movie is

This was such a sweet film to watch, with moments of happiness and humour balanced against sadness. Sam and Emilia give very good performances.

I had admired Sam before, more so now, he's always brilliant with each character he plays.. I have also admired Emilia more now 😊

Ahhhhhh seriously this will be one of the best book - movie transitions ever. So much love right now

I was so surprised to find out that Lou's story continues in two additional books. I listened to the audio versions of the books and it felt so good to spend more time with her. Still miss Will, though. Awesome story.

I was fine watching this, then I heard Ed and he smashed my heart into tiny pieces with the song😭😭😭😭😭

Maybe if you took the time to enjoy things, you wouldn't have that stick up your arse so tightly. even though i hated the ending too, i could understand will. we, the people who can move and live our lives on our own, can't see how hard it is to sit the whole day in a wheelchair, without the power to move. those people sit the whole day and need for everything they do someone. they can't take showers, they can't eat alone, they always need someone who does these things for them. and then they also have incredible pain. they can get ill very fast and i think to live a life like that is really hard, especially when you, lived like will, before the accident, a great life full of sport and travelling and joy and stuff like that. i don't support suicide but i don't think anybody should judge these people without knowing what they are going through. after all they don't commit suicide because someone broke up with them or whatever reason teenagers or other people have. and i think another point for will was, that if he would've stayed alive, lou had no possibileties to live the life he wants her to live. he showed her that she was destined for greatness and if he would have survived she would have spent the rest of her life with will and i think he also was afraid that one day, she maybe regrets that she never travelled the world or made more of her live and blamed him. and if you want to know what her live became after will died you can read "after you". it is really good. not as good as "me before you", but really good.

To those who disagree with Will's choice *Spoiler Alert* - but Nathan states that Will is in a lot of pain and has had to endure lots of shattering illness since his accident. His choice to end his life is not one he takes easily but I can understand why he does it.
