Yay! I hope this video answers some of your guys' questions :) Remember, no matter the letters, you need to be the best physician possible. It's not about YOU! It's about your patients.

Thank you for clearing up the difference between chiropractors and DO’s!! I’m a chiro student and I have to explain this to people all the time that I am NOT in medical school!
Pretty comprehensive video and I was in a similar situation having interviewed both MD and DO. Finishing up my first year at a DO school now. I too had an interest in PT way early on, was a college athlete, and personal trainer for a while so when I went on my interviews and really had a chance to learn even more about the osteopathic philosophy, that's when it made sense that DO was where I needed to be. I came into medical school with interest in MSK heavy specialties like PM&R (and some interventional subspecialties in PM&R), Ortho, and FM/OMM so definitely felt that calling to be at an osteopathic medical school!
I absolutely LOVE your channel and content because the way you articulate your opinions is so eloquent and beautiful. You really do CARE and I can see it whenever you interact with the camera. You're going to be a fantastic physician one day and I'm excited to continue to see your journey and be inspired by you as I enter my first year of medical school!
Ahhh this has been a question I have been researching for what feels like months!! So excited you made a video clarifying this 💕 thank you thank you!!
Best summary of both! I’ve spent so much time researching each one, so thanks for the information along with your own personal experience in your decision-making!
I love this so much!! Thank you for the information! I have been watching from the beginning and I enjoy seeing how real medical school is through your channel. :)
Just finished my medical school it's actually 7 years down here in Egypt your videos shows the truth about the stress it reminds me of all the hard time I had and wanted to tell you it eventually all goes away
Super proud of the progress you're showing and of how far you've come! Such an inspiration! Cheers from a 6th year (senior) medical student in Jordan!
I love getting adjustments! It’s so nice seeing you taking care of yourself Rachel! Can’t wait until your next upload❤️
AH I was thinking about different healthcare routes today and was looking into the differences btwn the two- THANK YOU! 😭 So excited for this!
I just love your honesty and how humble you are...I have considered DO also for a while and it will be part of my applications too. Have a happy healthy summer☺️😎
Thank you again, for taking us through your journey of medical school! i'm really proud of where you are and I strive to be passionate like you!
Fellow DO student here, really appreciate you answering this question so thoroughly and clearly for everyone. Keep up the great work!
A while back even I had this question and Dr. Mike's video helped me choose my path but your video is really good too and I'm sure it's gonna help a lot of people.
You are an inspiration. I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing practical ways for effective studying habits. Congratulations on completing first year!!
So proud of you Rachel!!! I remember when your first week of medical school vlog and now you’re in your second year!! I’m so happy for you :)
Thanks for sharing Rachel, I'm matriculating to a DO school this year. So excited to join you and the other DO/MD ranks to help our neighbors!

Dang Rachel this video was like mesmerizing. I was hanging on every word you said and I don't even work in healthcare. Bravo.

I'm so in love with this video. Thank you!
Such an informative video! Your heart really shines through in all of your videos
I now some people think a DO is a "fake doctor". Thank you for making this video to inform people who are not aware that both MD and DO are licensed physicians. Proud of you girl!👍

Ur honestly amazing. That helped me a lot. Wish u luck and thank you.
Man! That upclose "okay BYE!" makes me so happy!😁😁
KINESIOLOGY FTW! Thank you so much, you have brought such an amazing face to osteopathic medicine. I really believe that you are educating and reversing some of the old misconceptions!
Had vaguely heard of MD / DO in the past, but you cleared up the details! 😎
Ahhh you’re amazing! Thank you sooo much for this :)

I’m going into an accelerated DO medical program next year and I’m super excited! I chose my program because I felt the difference between the two was shrinking more and more each year and thought this school was the best fit for me.
Excited to watch!!
Thank you! i didn't know there were these different types of medicine.
Your videos are awesome and I love your words. Really vibrant. Keep it up Southard. Love from Bangladesh ❤
The thing about it not being about you but your patient is something im gonna think about through this procces :) thanks
Been waiting all week 🥺
loveeeee ur videos omg ..im a nursing student but hope i work with a doctor like you! you are so precious and inspiring
Excellent video! Very informative! Thank you!
I graduated M.D. in 1978 trained as a general and later vascular surgeon. Served 30 yrs in USN and also did 11 yrs in private practice in a high end city (Santa Monica, CA) I was unfamiliar with D.O. when I applied to med school in 1972 ( pre-internet world). In my years in practice I never have seen any difference at all in allopathic or my osteopathic colleagues in as far as their practice, education or ability to render great and compassionate care to patients. I always felt fortunate while deployed (OIF.OEF) to have the OMT "tool" available for some challenging Marines with serious soft tissue issues. I would recommend any pre med seriously invest in D.O. med school apps while applying to allopathic schools also. If accepted to a D.O. med school one should go and get your enthusiasm, motivation and desire to practice medicine in gear and don't look back wasting precious time. Get in gear and start living your dream and passion.. I am retired now but would do it all over again if needed. Best profession there is.

Really great comment. Thank you for your 2 cents. Please enjoy your retirement :)
My DO has been a livesaver in dealing with my rheumatoid arthritis and degenertive spine issues. Such a great complement to my immunologist and rheumatologist.
Thanks for the explanation. I've never understood anything about DOs but have been treated by a few over the years. They had a pretty similar yet distinct personality versus the MDs I've had. All the DOs seemed like down-to-earth people who really enjoyed their work and life in general. They actually smiled sometimes. The MDs I've had come across as very serious, rushed, and somewhat unhappy or perhaps bored with what they're doing. I think you'll fit in better in the DO community.
I’m here early! This is so informative, before I decided that PA is the most appropriate route for me due to lifestyle choices I wanted to become a DO. Cannot understand why DO ever had a negative stigma, if anything all the extra knowledge is a plus!
I am an incoming OMS-1 and am so glad I chose the DO route!! Thank you for representing us and setting the record straight. It is quite sad that some premeds discriminate against the DO path. Getting into medical school is not easy by any means. If you have the option to choose between MD and DO, awesome! Honestly, at the end of the day, you will be a doctor that is there to care for your patients and that is all that matters.
I’m so happy to hear ‘second year medial student’!!! 💕❤️💕❤️
Rachel I had been waiting for your video since 10 hours I just can't express how much I love your videos!!! You motivate me so much to just study happily, do some exercise or even for cleaning!! Retired DO here. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors. My own choice as to MD vs DO came down to what type of Physician I wanted to be. I had been accepted into multiple programs, both MD and DO. I always wanted to be a small town country doctor so for me the DO route was a better fit. Never regretted my choice and ended up where I wanted to be.
I've never thought of applying to DO schools in the past until I discovered your channel! Thank you for this :)

Both DO and MD take care of the patient in a holistic manner. look at the specialty/residency you want to do aka if you want to do derm dont do DO. It's hard to say what you want to do at the beginning but I think MD keeps more doors open. Best of luck!
