But nobody was prepared for what would follow next as the former MCW World Heavyweight Champion eliminated Rocky Menero and won the over-the-top spectacle, becoming the #1 contender to the championship in the process.
Mitch Waterman headed to the biggest of his career as he defended the MCW World Heavyweight Championship against Buddy Matthews at The House Always Wins.
For Buddy, it is a full circle moment as he returned to the venue which helped launch his international career, in both WWE and now AEW.

I mean, when you think about it. eventually someone's gonna take it off of him. so overall the status of the championship goes up and all the people who fight buddy will get more eyes on them. also with the recent announcement of mitch's indefinite retirement, having buddy be a roman reigns of sorts for mcw is only gonna make his opponents look more legit and will up everyone's game overall. I think the effect that you think buddy winning is gonna have is that it makes the mcw wrestlers not look as good in comparison but I'd actually argue the opposite. Let's take Tommy Knight's upcoming match as an example, would people take Tommy as seriously if the opponent putting him over was Mitch, or Buddy?
