McLaren P1 LM sets record at the Nürburgring

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In June 2016, the P1 LM was launched at Goodwood Festival of Speed, where it became the fastest road car to tackle the Goodwood Hill.
Over the past eleven months, as the five P1 LM production cars have been built, the identical prototype XP1LM road car has been testing. During the final phases at Nurburgring Nordschleife, XP1LM achieved a fastest lap of 6.43.2. After setting this new lap record, the car then drove directly from Nurburgring back home to the UK.
This project is the latest collaboration between Lanzante and Kenny Brack. Kenny Brack is known for his 1999 Indianapolis 500 win, 1998 Indy racing champion, and recent gold medal at the 2009 rally-x during the x-games. Lanzante first became globally synonymous with the McLaren name when it ran the semi-works Mclaren F1 GTR that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995.
The project also received support from McLaren, and Pirelli who made a specific size and compound road legal Trofeo tyre for the P1 LM.
The P1 LM road car is intended to be the quickest, rarest, and last of the P1 variants. All five P1 LM's are sold, and will be used in the USA, Japan, UAE and the UK.
Lanzante and Kenny Brack shall be allowing journalists to experience the P1 LM production car at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of speed, where they will also host a live talk about their Nürburgring achievements.

    That's the thing about Nurburgring laps. The track is so long and there are so many corners it's really difficult to get a 'perfect' lap. If they do detailed timing and have a driver go do several laps then pick out his best sector times from those, I'm sure it'll combine into a laptime that's at least a couple of seconds faster than his actual best.

    OK, This is coming from a guy who finished high school in 1965. I bought my first car in 1967 while in the USAF, a lightly used 1965 Pontiac GTO tri-power. After Vietnam a Cuda. I've driven other stuff. 1970 Boss 302 and it's brother a 1970 Cougar 428. Even a 1970 Dodge with the police package 440, which I topped out at 127 mph. So by now you realize I'm one of those 60's guys who is very adolescent about cars. This course in Germany has become the industry standard, a proving ground for anything you want to earn bragging rights with. I've watched the Corvettes and the Kawasakis crank some good laps with on-board cameras. This P1 guy immediately threw me back to the first day I pinned myself to the seat in my GTO and cornered a Boss 302 so well I could turn understeer into instant oversteer with one punch of the throttle. This is the best hot rod in the world right now, 200+, effortless breaking, not a squeal from the tires in any corner, and a shocking lap time. In my well-seasoned age of 70 I have a soft spot in my heart for the Aston Martins. I love them. But this is the beast that has earned #one and I don't see it getting knocked off the mountain any time soon.

    StoRmwarnung94 It is a road legal car. It drove back to the UK afterwards. Besides all these comments about 'it took them 4 years XD' are stupid. This modification isn't even made by McLaren but by the aftermarket firm Lanzante motorsports. They were the ones who organised the ring lap. So no it didn't take McLaren 4 years. They stopped after they realised the Porsche was faster.

    Nah, Porsche and Ferrari engineers are laughing their ass off because this is proof that they destroyed Mclaren. Mclaren had to totally redevolop the car and make it much more track focused and hardcore (when P1 was already more hardcore than the other two) in order to beat them. I can't believe how fucking stupid and ignorant mclaren fanboys are. All those humiliations in F1 must have messed up your brains.

  • @derbigpr500

    @derbigpr500

    Jack Fuller "Road legal" doesn't mean shit. Don't pretend like you don't understand that. A road legal car can be very extreme and track focused, just because it's legal to drive it on the road doesn't mean it's a luxury car. Fact is, even the REGULAR P1 is MUCH more hardcore than La Ferrari or especially the 918. It's by far the least refined, luxurious and comfortable, by far the most stripped out, whereas the 918 was pretty much a luxury car, super refined and comfortable, with all the equipment, leather, etc. in the interior. Both are road legal, yes, but 918 is a far more accomplished car on the road AND on the track. Nobody can deny that the 918 is a better car in terms of engineering and in terms of what it does. It's fast in ALL conditions, plus very usable, very refined, very easy to drive, very efficient, reliable, etc. Like all Porsches. It's a hypercar for daily use, whereas a P1 is very much NOT that, it's a track focused car out of the factory, and this LM version takes it to the extreme. Wanna compare something to it? Well.... compare it to the La Ferrari FXX-K, that's the natural competition for it, not the regular 918 or La Ferrari. That's like comparing a Mclaren 570GT with a Porsche 911 GT3 RS or a 458 Speciale, totally different purposes. P1 LM was SPECIFICALLY engineered to do a Nurburgring lap, the whole setup of the car and the whole purpose was this lap record, 918 is not made for the Nurburgring, it just happened to be very fast on it, but it's very much a road car first and foremost.

  • @jackfuller8960

    @jackfuller8960

    derbigpr500 derbigpr500 Like I said, the LM P1 isn't a McLaren car, it was modified by Lanzante Motosports so you can't accuse McLaren of turning the P1 into a completely stripped out hardcore racer. Furthermore, from what I've read from motor journalists the standard P1 is a perfectly fine road car. Not as refined as the other 2 but still perfectly competent on the road and not some F1 car with road tires as you seem to suggest. Also, accusing me of being a McLaren fanboy for correcting someone else's comment says far more about where your own prejudices lie than where mine do. In the end I respect the opinions of motor journalists far more than some aggressive dweeb in a KZread comments section and so far I've yet to read a review that has nothing but the highest praise for all three cars even in a direct comparison. My feeling from what I've read is that each car is very different and so whichever you like best is most likely down to what you like most in a supercar, whether it be rear wheel drive, 4 wheel drive, V8, V12, etc.

    No, it wasn't. Please don't spread false informations. The Nordschleife is exactly as it is since 1983 and Beloff did his record on it. Till 1982 it was 2km LONGER, not shorter. For Christ' sake, it's even on the Ring's Wiki page ... None of the cars drive the Combined circuit for these records, only the Nordschleife. That's why Beloff's record is put there too, it wouldn't be, if it was on a configuration that's shorter ... Nordschleife (1983-present) Surface Asphalt/concrete Length 20.81 km (12.93 mi) Turns 154 Race lap record 6:11.13 (West Germany Stefan Bellof, Porsche 956, 1983, WEC) Nordschleife (1927-1982) Surface Asphalt/Concrete Length 22.8 km (14.2 mi) Turns 160 Race lap record 7:06.4 (Switzerland Clay Regazzoni, Ferrari 312T, 1975, Formula One) Why do you think it says 1983-present? It hasn't changed after 1983. The GP-track changed in 1984 and 2002 but it has nothing to do with the Nordschleife, where all the makers make their run.... So, might be sad news, but the Porsche 956 Record still stands. And if we want to talk about "road going" car record ... well ... there are 956s on the road today too ... That's why I'd say production car records are somehow ok, but with the road going car records it becomes a huge mess and someone always can say since a 956 can be driven on the road today, then it's road going ... thus the record holder in that category too ;)

    I don't understand why people compare this to the EP9 when both cars finish at the start line, but the mclaren starts its clock ticking like 200m further down the track than the Nio. How is it a fair comparison when the mclaren gets a 3 second head start?

    Will, its actually a 4.24 second head start! McLaren should man up and do the whole lap! Zonda R & NIO EP9 did the WHOLE lap. It took them 4.24 seconds to travel that initial 200 meters, which the LT skipped all together. For rough comparison; if LT did the whole lap, its time would have been around what Zonda R did; 6:47.50 and not even close to NIO EP9's. Zonda R --> 6:47.50 - 4.24 = 6:43.26 NIO EP9 --> 6:45.90 - 4.24 = 6:41.66 or LT: 6:43.22 + 4.24 = 6:47.46 (4/100 of a second faster than Zonda R) It really speaks volumes to what a monster Zonda R was/is; it set this record in 2010, and held it for 7 long years, which is an eternity in automotive world.

    Yeah but the reason why is that those cars are on SLICKS. The track start line for the ROAD cars is the one used in this video. Thats the difference. Road legal cars are allowed to start there. Or you can put full soft slicks on the P1LM and watch it go sub 6.25 mins.

  • @IvoRadev

    Or you can just say the 956 is the fastest on the ring, since there are road going 956 in the world ... This "cheating" brings nothing IMHO anyway ... Who cares about 6pcs Nio EP9 or 5pcs P1 GTR LM? (yes, GTR, it's not a normal P1, but a GTR conversion). While it's a stretched statement, there is a possibility for a normal man to get a GT2 RS let's say ... which is the production car holding the record. Getting a car from the "road going" group is beyond the reality of 99.99999% of the humans, or better said, only 11 people out of some 7.5 billions have the 6 Nios and 5 LMs and none of them can achieve a time even close to the times achieved with cars similar to theirs (let's not pretend they owner will use, if ever, his/her car in same trim as the test car). While it's nice to see production cars going for it, when some one-offs start to demand bragging rights it just goes wild ... Even production cars try to cheat (remember Lamborghini's time edit, with best times of all sections? Honda was a target too, since the Type-R in the video achieved speeds in the straights untouchable by stock cars and so on) ... If we shall talk about THE record, then it belongs to Porsche and its 956. The road going car term is way too stretched I'd say and the cars in that category are always some one offs or 5-6 pcs of customized cars ... So who needs this "road going" record? Probably only the YT comment section :D
