McKillops Bridge, Barry Way - 3 Day Jindabyne Ride

Спорт

A perfect 3-day gravel and bitumen big-bike ride. Ideal for riders from Sydney and surrounds.
To Jindabyne via Lumley and Cooma Rds (Braidwood to Cooma).
Jindy loop - Bombala, Bonang, McKillops Bridge, Snowy River Rd, Barry Way.
From Jindabyne to Captains Flat via Peak View Rd, then Captains Flat Rd, Majors Creek and Charles Forest.
3 great days of riding.
Day 1 - We gathered at Berrima’s Schmokin' Aus for a breakfast meeting before heading to Bungonia where we soon detoured on the gravel route via Lumley Rd to the Morass, then Mayfield Rd and on to Braidwood for lunch.
After riding the initial 50km of bitumen on Cooma Rd it was back to the dust from the Gravel again starting at Krawarree, and continuing over an area I’ve always enjoyed - Snowball.
Now I’m guessing that much of this road has recently been graded with the section from Badja to Countegony recently closed for that purpose. Hence, there seemed to be plenty of deep sand deposits lurking in the ride-line ensuring we stayed extra switched-on all the time.
Avoiding the highway through to Jindy, we headed for Maffra Rd to the Snowy River Way enjoying the backroads to Jindabyne.
Day 2 - After a great breakfast at the Lake Jindabyne Hotel we headed towards Bombala on a cold (min 12°) morning for our Jindy Loop ride.
Snowy River Way - great ride, good condition
Delegate Rd - ok ride, improved condition with road resealed and ready for marking.
Bonang Rd (North) - always a great ride.
𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹;
Mackillops Rd to the Bridge - ok ride, dusty, fine gravel.
Mackillops Rd (West) - good ride (as long as no on-coming cars), excellent condition.
Snowy River Rd - good ride, excellent condition.
Barry Way - despite the NSW border and the start of Barry Way (or finish depending on your direction) signifying a massive deteriorating condition with heaps of potholes, ruts and loose gravel, it’s still a great ride with great scenery. Conditions do improve heading west.
Day 3 - We capped off a great long-weekend - Jindabyne ride and get-together with a mixed bitumen and gravel ride home. All roads were in very good condition and definitely enjoyed by the group.
It was Jindy to Captain’s Flat via Peak Hill, Braidwood via Majors Creek, Nerriga via Charlie’s Forest, then home via Nowra.

It is interesting to see roads that I drove over during car rallies in the late 1960's especially the Barry Way.

I love your vid style. I must admit I like the sound of the road - as on this vid - to music overlays on previous ones 🥰

Yeah, thanks. I think the days of the music are over, besides, it's a bit quicker to edit if you don't have to worry so much about sound. Our aim is to provide details about rides that might help or encourage others. I guess if we can do them, almost everyone can. 😀

Looks like you guys did that road very soon after I did. The section on McKillops Rd around 08:35 is where I had to wait for the grader as he was still in the proicess of grading the road at that point. Such an awesome ride along there I have to say.

Could be the camera angle I guess but looked like a lot of cutting corners, too fast, following too close. Surprised only one overcooked corner shown. I must be betting old.

You’re dead right on the NSW potholes. I rode through a few weeks ago and as soon as you cross the border the road deteriorates. It’s a great ride despite that though.
