Thanks for the comments. My main listening room IS in the basement. My wife is not really a music fan so the basement is my audio mancave. No problems with playing it loud downstairs. I do have a nice vintage system upstairs. Although functional it's primarily for looks.

Helpful video, thank you. How difficult is it to remove the faceplate? Are there any surprise gotchas? Do the knobs pull straight off? What lights up the McIntosh green glowing face lights (as opposed to the red.changing function lights)? The green lights on the right side of my front face, mode selector, volume, and treble, are dark. The left side lights up normally. My issue doesn't seem to be consistent with the work you did on that one bulb.

I don't remember now exactly how to remove the faceplate. Be careful not to break that glass. As I remember the knobs just pull off. I think all the light bulbs are the same type.

This is a great video, I have a late 80's Denon pre amp. its been stored for yrs. its working , the monitor copy selector switch must be dirty, I don't use the tape 1 or tape 2 I just leave it in the 12 o'clock position which is source, for cd. speakers cut in and out w/ distortion. If I switch back and forth, or push and pull, it goes away and sounds normal. (What Deoxit cleaner) do you use for selector switches, there's a couple different ones. Thanks.

Thanks for the comments. I use Deoxit D5 on switches and Deoxit F5 fader on potentiometers and fader slide controls. Good luck on servicing your preamp. A good spray of deoxit should solve the problems you described.

How do you access the push buttons on this preamp to spray them when they are intermittent?

I'm not sure. I didn't have an issue with the push buttons on my preamp so I didn't investigate access. It looks like you may be able to get to them from the bottom but you may have to move some of the circuit boards to get really good access.

On my C28, Every time I touch my bass knobs I get a crackling sound and almost every time either the left or right channel cuts completely out. Do you think this cleaning will help with that? Or do I need to replace parts?

That sounds like dirty controls. I'd try cleaning the potiometers with a good electrical control cleaner like Deoxit F5 fader cleaner.

@@mguess thank you I have some QD electronic connector cleaner but I've read it's to harsh, so I ordered a couple 5oz. Cans of deoxit
