One of my all time favorite episodes! The expression on McHale’s face when he’s standing just behind the Captain while Lieutenant Carpenter is explaining to Binghamton how HIS boat is now missing is priceless. McHale and his crew could’ve saved themselves all that grief if, instead of pretending to camouflage PT73, they would’ve just sent Ensign Parker and some of crew back into the jungle to hide so if and when the Captain showed up McHale could have explained to Binghamton that Parker had the boat out checking the engines or something. But of course then you wouldn’t have the zany set of events that made up the rest of this hilarious episode....

There are numerous incongruities throughout the series. Some involve the script, others the sets or equipment and props. Most are barely noticeable. Even fun to watch for. In an episode where Crewman “Happy” Haines sleepwalks; Ensign Parker makes reference to a photograph depicting his mother in a bikini. The bikini bathing suit wasn’t introduced until sometime in the mid-50’s. In one episode the crew had a pet baby chimpanzee. A creature native to equatorial Africa, not the Solomon Islands area of the Southern Pacific Ocean. Captain Binghamton kept referring to it as “The Hairy Boob”😂! Another episode has McHale leading the crew and some of the nurses in a “first aid” lesson to the tune and rhythm of the “Cha-Cha.” Cha-Cha music wasn’t a thing and didn’t exist until after 1952. I guess my point is who cares; the important thing was quality, talented comedy! A commodity relatively scarce nowadays....

Quietest tank I ever heard. The marine Packards were fueled by 100 octane aviation gasoline. That's pretty much why they were easily destroyed by cannon fire.
