For those of you too young to know what life was like before the Internet and to understand just how old this footage really is, here’s a bit of perspective.. I graduated HS in 1986. I’ll be 55 years old this year. FIFTY. FIVE. I never thought I’d live to see 40, which was considered “ancient” when I was 17. I’m older than the majority of my teachers were when I was in school. I’m 10 years older than my dad was on the day I graduated. That’s a mind numbing piece of reality to have to digest. But I’m at least in better physical condition than he was and I look and feel younger than my age. Credit a healthy lifestyle I guess. What you’re witnessing in all these old VHS videos people post on KZread are images of a culture of innocence, cooperation, hopefulness and true face to face interaction between people that no longer exists, and may never come again. The future was so bright we had to wear shades! But it was a future that didn’t come to pass. We’re more connected and yet more separated today than at any time in recorded history. It’s a strange and anxious time to be alive, but embrace it anyway. The future may still turn out to be better than the present, or even the distant past.

Yeah, I'm 53 so I can relate to your comment. The saddest part for me is that I know things can be this good again, right now if people could just get over themselves. It's a shame. There seems to be an interest in the 80s now, kinda like we liked the 50s. I really hope kids embrace that and learn that it's people, not governments who hold power. An old man's prayer I guess. I mean nothing by this, just sharing a thought, not a critique. Have a good day.

@Troy Spencer You are right. There is definitely an interest in the 80s. I am 25 myself and really would have loved to see how things were out there in that moment. These footages really are of insane value for people like me who love to see what we missed out on

@@tyricegadson7699 I think it's cool that you like the footage. I can relate because I really wish I could visit the early 60s! Perhaps some day a positive version of interactive cyberspace will allow that to happen for us. I mean, I was promised flying cars but if we are forced to turn to fantasy, that would be an interesting weekend right? :) I'm not sure what they promised your generation but I think it's about time they coughed up something positive.

I've paused this it at the 9 minute mark to make comment. This is a gem of a video. Nostalgic. This Highschool is nothing like the high school I attended.. Though I would loved to have attended this high school. I went to high school in Sydney's Inner West.. Canterbury boys actually. Tough and Rough around the edges.. I kid you Not. Went there from 85 to 89.. What a Hell ride. Then transferred to a co ed high school in 1990 to do my HSC. How I remember the year is that Motley Crue came to Sydney with the Dr Feelgood tour and it was the first international gig I ever went to.. I was 17. The high school I attended was very institutional feeling/atmosphere.. We didn't socialize in class nearly as much as what these folk are doing.. Or the relaxed atmosphere conveyed in this video.. And I Envy that. I have always related much better to the American school system back at that time.. And also I Never liked wearing a uniform even though I did.. Suffice to say.. Non of the Metal heads wore their uniform. Not sure how informed Americans are about how high schools were in Sydney Australia at that time? Quite different.. At least where I went. Also.. Yeah.. No phones.. No social media. Love everything about this video.. Love seeing this kind of footage. Hey.. Check out Len Enders.

Looking at the footage of 1986, I see an important turning point of someone who was about to step in the world of uncertainty. I’m 52, and it feels like my youth had been a distance memory, and looking back to those upbringing days kind of makes me very emotional. Life has a strange approach to how one sets up his/her life. Some become cares for their family, and some find themselves with the bad society that turns them away from the reality of taking responsibilities for their own lives. Since covid… the world has resetted everyone and anyone that life is very precious and, one has to live each day as it comes.🙏

I'm class of '94 (I'm 47) and by then it was all about pin straight locks and had to use the ironing board and iron (my mothers 1960s trick) my curly hair straight...it turned orange from burning. 😆 once I graduated, hair serum and flat irons were invented. As an Aussie, I always like hearing these southern American accents. They just sound so pleasant to the ear. Question: Are the accents still like this or are they not quite as pronounced now? When I watch video footage of Australia in the 80s, the accent does sound a bit broader and I wondered if that was the same in other countries.
