    My favourite look for Catwoman is the slightly modified Darwyn Cooke suit (I think it was Jim Lee who slightly changed it?) that she was rocking up until like 5 years ago. It looks cool, sexy and practical, and the goggles add a lot to the look for me. There's a good reason everything used that design for so long.

    It’s called rush rush we showed pics yesterday let’s get em out tomorrow factory flaws and all. Too prolific in releases , I like dc mcfarlane but I think taking a day off wouldn’t kill them , I have this catwoman preordered and happily awaiting her but ya , she’s packin heat downstairs and could use a more pleasingly shaped body that for all its articulation can’t move all that much anyway. Comedic oversize accessories are Mcfarlane's bread and butter. From batarangs in the size of bricks to oversized canes that look like massive clubs. Once again, I really hope they lose the license because it seems like they don't give a damn about the line. Whats the point of releasing a ton of figures when a large amount of them are turds. As for your question- purple suit all the way followed by the Darwyn Cooke design.

    I do not collect these figures anymore, but I still like to see your reviews. I feel you represent the frustration I have with this line in your videos in such a fun and sarcastic way. They've been doing this line for 3 years now and they still can fix the issues fans point out the most. They sure are aware because Todd himself pointed out that fans did not like the side eye, so they wouldn't do it anymore.

    My favorite look for Catwoman is probably this one or as she was drawn by Darwin Cooke! And as far as a better figure of this version of Catwoman, I'd recommend the DC Essentials Knightfall Catwoman. It was obviously lacking in accessories as the whole line was, but it's a far better looking figure. Though, like this one, the head sculpt left a little to be desired

    Todd McFarlane is a comic book artist. He started a whole comic book company. He basically started the whole artistic looking action figure that almost looked as good as statues. Why is he now tossing out this absolute trash? Marvel Select is far better in this size. NECA is a different universe. He's had enough time to develop and we can't give him a break. 6 is pretty generous for this figure.

    I had to take a McFarlane figure apart once, and I think I know why their figures can't really lean forward. The chest and abdominal pieces of the torso are connected by a double-ball ("dumbbell") joint. Looking at the side view, you would think that you would design this connection so that the dumbbell joint is vertical and is centered horizontally in the chest piece, but if you did that, it would collide with the space needed for the two shoulder joints. So in the chest piece, they move the socket for the dumbbell joint forward in front of the space needed for the two shoulder joints. Now the dumbbell joint is angled forward instead of being vertical. You'll have to draw a picture of the side view to properly visualize it, but the consequence of this design is the the chest piece immediately collides with the abdominal piece if you try to lean the chest forward, but there is plenty of space for the chest to lean backward.

    The hair bugs me too because it looks tacted on. I see the head and the mask completely separately from the hair that it looks like a wig arbitrarily stapled on. Harsh criticism aside I do like this figure and the look so she's probably going to be my main catwoman in lieu of another option. Unless I finally kitbash the ML shriek and a Jae Lee head but then there's scale issues. Lord that batman is a big lad. This might be the first figure I actually take a scalpel to, that diaper is egregious but seems easily fixable. And if the pegs are long enough, slicing straight through on the boot top will be an easy mod too. Also I've seen people spin around the ab sections on McFarlanes for better crunch. That might work for her

    Separate comment for the operations of McFarlane. I genuinely think that Marvel Legends have gotten so expensive and cheap looking, that people see uniquely sculpted bigger figures with equivalent or more paint they just grab it. They're selling fairly well from what I can tell so iteration and improvement isnt as demanded. But I deeply want to know what the crunch issue is especially that they can make them lean back so far. The upper torso on their figures has a protruding ball peg that goes into the hole on the top of the lower torso (abdomen) piece. The problem is that McFarlane Toys intentionally engineers the protruding ball joint at an angle that favors leaning backwards, which makes it impossible to lean forward at the abdominal cut. The only forward lean in these figures is the waist. Take one of them apart and you will see, the ball peg connecting the abdominal to the upper torso is angled toward the back of the figure. They intentionally cripple their own figures.

If they could make those 2 changes across the board I think the articulation would be pretty good. At least range of motion wise.

    In a weird way I almost feel I'd rather have Hasbro, uh do the Hasbro thing with DC IPs. While I'll give it that McFarlane has a vision for the DC line, it comes with severe compromises actually adapting them in figure form because it seems what he wants is to bring characters in one very specific instance to life without ever considering engineering. I wouldn't be too thrilled about Hasbro lazily reusing the same molds over and over again for all my Batmans and Supermans, but hey, at least they'd scale well with other figures.

  • @collegerebel

    @collegerebel

    Of course he doesn't consider engineering. He's been saying it for years that he hates articulation because it breaks up the sculpt. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the one actually holding the line back from being what people want. Think about it, he's at least green lighting every figure before going into production, meaning he has the last word on what goes and what doesn't. And hey, maybe I'm wrong, but its just a thought. Anyway, I agree with you on Hasbro doing their thing with DC. At least there'd be consistency. People defend McF Multiverse because there's little re-use, which is fine, but the thing is that before the 2010's superheroes were pretty much all drawn the same. They were just athletic bodies, colored in to look like they were wearing clothes, with very little in the way of detailing like stitching and only the occasional fabric wrinkles and creases. Looking at it like that, Hasbro's laziness is pretty justified in my eyes. Plus, we'd have the Avengers and Justice League in scale with each other.😁

    I have been collecting Mcfarlane toys on and off for years. I let myself be tempted by the Commie Superman... That was my only one, because I did not like it that much. The rest of the line, while they can have some nice looking ones, have badly engineered articulation. I dislike the way those figures are articulated at the ankles and wrists, I dislike the diaper design, they have long ass legs... I will give this to Toddymac: a lot of cool individual sculpts, which is great. They look from ok to great, but it's obvious the McFarlane team, while doing "articulations", they are not trying to make it flow with the sculpt, or be functional. And it ends up looking off and gangly. And because the scale is not only big, but also not consistent, all of the "teams" I have seen picture wise look ALL OVER THE PLACE. Hasbro as a company makes more consistent looking stuff, but the heavy reuse and shady commercial practices/constant layoff make me dislike them a lot as far as a corporation. Todd's heart is in the right place, but I just wish he would put designers that actually give a crap on how well articulated figures work.

    I hate to say it, but I'd rather have the Marvel Legends style hips with hard plastic and semi-exposed joints than these huge, rubber granny-panties. McFarlane is the worst offender, but even some NECA figures (Universal Mummy) have terrible diaper pieces.

    @@AnthonysCustoms I agree that trimming helps around the waistline (i own this figure and I've trimmed it down). But I think trimming rubber from around the top of her thighs would make her johnson look even bigger.

    @@AnthonysCustoms My bad, this Catwoman wasn't a great example. But a figure like the McFarlane 3 Jokers Clown or the NECA Mummy look more diapery because the hips and crotch get too wide and fat. I'm all for rubber diaper figures so long as the designers don't screw up the proportions.

    I think the issue with her face is she has RBF. As for McFarlane Toys in general, their figures usually look so awkward and unnatural to me. The bodies look like random pieces snapped together. Maybe it's because I watch your channel but their designs set off my Spidey Sense.

    I actually love the current(?) Rebirth design. I always think of Catwoman as wearing an all black leather suit with a mask. In my mind I guess it's just a rough amalgamation of her Animated Series and Batman Returns looks. She had some costume similar to that in the 90s, but her Rebirth design really captures her as she exists in my mind. I hope McFarlane does that one next.
