im an unapologetic mcfarlane fan, that said they do make a ton of mistakes, i do think mcfarlane did almost PERFECT on the flash movie wave. keaton and the flashes are fantastic (batfleck and supergirl are my issues) s.h. is too expensive for my taste and budget anyway so im fine that this figure aint all that lol

The thing about mcfarlane is that when they fuck shit up, it's a $20 figure. When shf fucks it up, it's a $50-$70 figure. And for a $20 figure to even come close to, let alone be better than a $70 is blasphemy.

Personally, I would want a Keaton Batman with little to no neck articulation. It's accurate. The costume designer for The Flash even built a suit for Keaton with a movable neck and he told the director, "This isn't going to work" - he didn't want to move his neck. Best way around it for an action figure to please everyone? Two separate heads - one with and one without articulation 👌

Tamashii Nations' decisions in scale are pretty weird. They are slowly upscaling their anime lines (DBZ, JJK, Naruto, SpyxFamily) to match the 1/12 scale, but they left the live action stuff unchanged and still feel small compared to domestic figures.

Their recent ATSV line was also ML scale (1/11th scale) and not 1/12 scale like they usually are

Yeah but mcfarlenes quality and sizes are weird, they don't really fit anywhere with the average collection, unless you out then with other mcfarlenes, or you have their bigger figures like bane or someone. All in all, SHF is better overall for collecting if you're serious, McFarlenes are my like toys.

I guess a 5'7 tall person in 1/12 scale = very small. Which makes sense than scaling everything to 6 inch or something

I dont think either of these figures are good. But the figuarts lacks in articulation because of the design of the actual suit. Being accurate to the source material is the fault of the source. But to say a figure didn't earn an accessory? What does that even mean?

Silicon grease works well for smoothing out stuck joints. Silicon grease doesn't drip like oil and stays precisely where you put it. An extremely tiny (toothpick tip size) amount is enough to get the job done.

That cape system could've been so cool... Great video David! You saved me some cash with this one 😂

I got my hands on the SHF figuarts movie carnage, and I must say that figure is a banger. Worth every penny, it’s on the better end of the figuarts quality scale. The scale, paint, articulation, movie accurate details and accessories really add to the figure. Only weakness is the lack of a woody barrels on likeness. It’s one of two shf figures I own in my collection.

the face sculpt reminds me of the old gif of a kid sitting at a computer giving a thumbs up

It’s weird cause their recent Indiana Jones figure is amazing. There’s 3 faceplates and the likeness to Harrison Ford is absolutely spot on. Figure overall is great too

Okay watching the video, I’m so glad you covered this his head does look “floaty” like his head doesn’t look like it’s connected and to me it kinda looks like his neck like without the suit would be elongated like his neck is too long and I also think if the cape was a different color the figure would look better (matching the suit)

Figuarts try not to drop the ball on a western property challenge (impossible)

Because we have low expectations for McFarlane, but for it's price and scultps it's worth it. That's why I only collect McFarlane nowadays and started selling my 1/12 scale figures which are pricey and fragile.

I suggest you can check out the DAH-092 Batman Modern Suit by Beast Kingdom. It's almost the same price as the S.H.F. one, but much better in so many ways. The only downside in my opinion is the size; some people may think 8" is too big to fit in their collections.

I disagree. The Figuarts is just an incredibly poor figure, irrespective of price or "premium" materials. SHF has just had a spotty year, with their Berserk and One Piece figures (Sanji and about 1/2 of Luffy excluded) being pretty damn bad.

@@brycebitetti1402 I got some power rangers toys back in the day and I just liked the overall slim aesthetics and was def better than what hasbro had at the time. Maybe they fell off.

The funny thing is the original SHFiguarts Batman 1989 is a little taller than 5 3/4 inches which is 6 inch scale because Michael Keaton is 5’ 9”. The cowl sculpt is better and it sits appropriately lower on the neck. It looks great next to a Mezco Superman which feels right being taller but not insanely taller than Batman.

Does the S.H. Figuarts version fit better in McFarlane's Batmobile, in light of some people's comments that McFarlane's figure is too big for it?

Did we see a different movie? even from the trailer for The Flash , when you see Keaton, his ''distinct lips'' werent there because hes older now and his face changed. Its what I noticed the most, wanting to see him in the bat suit after all these years. But I for sure noticed the pouty lips wasnt there, especially seeing the movie. There was some scenes where he looked awesome as if it was out of Batman Returns , but the cowls shaped different, also again his face is older, lips just isnt as defined as before. I also hate that the McFarlane head can turn because its not accurate and his head being seperate, especially in the 89 figure they did? looks dumb as hell. Im hoping if they make a Batman Returns figure, they can get his face and cowl right. McFarlane clearly wins in terms of the size and price, but I still have to give it to SHF for getting it more accurate, in terms of look. The size and the price is dumb.

@@dylanrinker6831 I’m pretty sure Mafex is going to release their version of the Keaton Batman from the flash movie some time in the future. They revealed their flash figure so I’m pretty sure they’ll reveal Keaton Batman soon.

This is why I invest in plastic model kits and just watch others review figures for fun.

I think it actually looks 10x better NOT the way Mcfarlane did his head lol the accuracy looks better lol

Import figure are expensive and high quality kinda expected.

The only McFarlane figures i get is spawn lol. Anything else id rather go with neca honestly. Too me McFarlane figures just aren't accurate or detailed enough usually.

I feel you and understand your commens, but in my opinion SHF is better in general. If you are comparing based on money spent, that's a different debate.

As soon as i saw a review of this figure i ask to ami ami for the cancellation, it looks really weird with the head floating too high over the cloth cape (a really cheap one), not likeness and excesive pricier, that's a solid pass i rather to just have the 1989 sh instead, great review, happy Hollidays, and Regards from MX

Personally, I think figuarts based on live-action movies are usually disappointing. Like they tend to have limited or bad articulation. There are exceptions.

Damn, WHY does everyone hate this figure? I think it looks really good. I wanna buy it but after reading so much hate on this version, I am curious what Mafex could do with theirs. Michael Keaton is THE best Batman, though, so I want the most accurate for a good price.

Just wait. There's an AMAZING Batman figure coming out in 6 weeks. The company is small. BUT, their quality is up there with Hot Toys, and they sell for about 10% of the Hot Toys price. I already bought Batman Returns, and Adam West Batman (with wired capes, and actual fabric costume on Adam, and Burt). Their Superman is the best Superman figure I've ever seen. You're gonna be shocked, if you haven't seen them already.

SH Figuarts, Mezco, Mafex etc. It's just the same as people who drive BMW's or Mercedes. All you're paying for is the name. Those imports are not worth the money at all. A 6 inch action figure shouldn't cost anywhere near as much as these things do!

Not at all. They always come with much more accessories, almost always better articulation as well as multiple headsculpts, and at times better likenesses. Tell me the SHF Tobey is worse than the Hasbro one or the SHF Indy worse than the adventure series. No company has been able to nail Harrison Ford’s likeness. Mezco has soft goods which some people prefer and Mafex is even better than SHF. They’re expensive yes, but almost always better in detail and offer more in the package. It’s not just a name brand.

mafex is always better for dc stuff. just look at their pattinson next to the figuarts who knows how long it'll take them to release keaton though

Yikes...tell me you're new to Figuarts, without telling me you're new to Figuarts. Ok, let's run down the review real quick. The scale, Figuarts are "real scale" figures. Meaning they use the actors' actual height to determine scale. Michael Keaton is 5'9, and this figure is 5.9 inches. You can drop the legs down a bit (not too far as it'll look weird) to get it exactly 6 inches. All of their movie figures are made this way. The snug joints. This happens with MANY imports. Especially Mafex. You definitely need to get silicone shock oil (30wt). If you are going to get imports, get that oil from traxxas. The cape is an issue. I just made my own lightweight pleather cape, and it makes it sooooo much better. The legs do drop down, both. For those of us that have been collecting Figuarts from when they came on the scene, this isn't new. The Mcfarlane is an ok figure. Is it better than the Figuarts? No. Not even close. It's like comparing a happy meal toy to Marvel Legends. Figuarts are Figuarts. They aren't going to make things in standard 6 inch scale in uniformity like Marvel Legends. Their scale is diverse, and people buying them need to understand this. Or you get a biased, angry review like this one that is misleading. Does it have flaws? Yes. Is this Flash Batman the best Keaton Batman made? Yes. For the die-hard Keaton fans and fans of Figuarts, get it. You won't be disappointed.

Prior to the late 2010s, SHF were fantastic. This was before the American figure collectors discovered them, back when they were just making figures for the JP market. Once they picked up bigger American brands like Marvel and Star Wars they were still great for a little while but eventually they cranked up the volume of product they were putting out (basically every D+ series gets 2-4 figures nowadays) and the quality spiraled down. When they take their time and don't try to rush figures out or produce them in massive numbers for the intl market, they do great work.

Figuarts just can't do good Batmen. I swore off their Batmen after getting their '89 Keaton. They have some okay ones but they've never produced a definitive version of ant Batman and many of their attempts are downright bad.

Bandai has been releasing figure after figure and they've been shit every single time with the rare diamond in the rough patch sometimes. Nothing embodies their incompetence as much as their Berserk figures.

At least they're both from The Flash so that's one more reason for me to skip them. I don't mind the face on the MFT yet it's not exactly there, but SHF has the accessories. The eyes for the SHF look awful here (maybe specific to your unit) and Michael Keaton has a such a defined portrait regardless of age and film. Both have awful cowl designs, specifically the lower sections and that's excluding the fact that MFT's Keaton Batman can move his head which is completely inaccurate regardless of the price. I know Mezco released a 1989 Batman and it's not too bad, hopefully Medicom announces their Mafex for that iteration or 1992 (the best suit btw). Tamashii Nations has been all over the place as of late. Weird QC issues on Dragon Ball figures, nonsense with MonsterArts with the prime beast aka Godzilla having competition with Hiya Toys (the Gamera Rebirth is apparently the best SH MonsterArts in years) and the Berserk releases being just awful, Guts being the worst of the bunch (and some reviewers excusing it because they're just happy to get a Guts figure). And with Jada Toys doing the Street Fighter line, who knows what the competition can provide next. We don't need ONE figure in each line to be the exception because that exception stains everything else.
