My father was a Warrant Officer, master of the flight line working on F-4D Phantom FIghters in the Shah's imperial air force. I just bought a Tamiya version of this plan and waiting for it to arrive. Been a miniature painter for 25+ years. This is my first model kit. Thanks for the video, good help for a beginner modeller like myself. I plan to make it a gift for my dad so extra appreciation.

Being a kit from 1984, I'm just surprised of how good ad accurate it still feels 40 years later. ESCI was on another level with it's "aircraft family" series. I built a lot of those back in the days and I was surprised bu the fact that, despite being completely unrelated (one was designed in Milan, the other in Shizuoka, you can easily mix the ESCI Phantom with the Fujimi one , without any fitting problem.

Excellent work with beautiful IRIAF colors.

Same here (Skopje,North Macedonia.Although I go out every day for several times a day.But I avoid people and crowds as much as I can.We have the biggest nunbers of infected people for the last 5-10 days and people are still acting stupid and disbelieving the disiease.I just dont get that to be honest.

Thank you Drew.The kit is ok for that price.2x cheaper than the hasegawa one.I like the old iltaleri/esci kits.I am used to then because in the early 90s I used to build them a lot and I am quite nostalgic about it.

Thank you.Diecast and plastic scale models built properly just cant be compared.If you can do a scale model I would adcise you to skip the diecasts and build yourself a proper plastic model kit with all of the details etc..

Thanks.Well I do put a lot of effort into it.It takes me around 7-10 daya do do one video/model from start to finish.Besides that I also do additional kits that I don't film at thr same time.

Yes I did some home made upgrades in the cockpit.It is an ok kit a bit innacurate but still ok in the end considering it is over 30 years old.Try googling for some F-4D cockpit walkaround photos.They are available.I found some on pirme portal . net

Always worried when you pull out that 220 grid sandpaper, but it seems to work quite nice to eliminated the seems. Can you always restore those lost panel lines?

Unfortunately this HEAVY use of sand paper and high grit flattens a lot of details, and shapes too. If you look at the top of the Spine, it's probably flattened instead of rounded. Having built several times this kit (or the ESCI version), I can tell you that with a bit of caution and taking your time dry fitting the parts you can get a less messy work with better results. The use of proper Filler also has its place: CA is stronger, but also more difficult to file away, so you can be more "gentle" with the plastic around.

I love the Phantom. Great job! I have a question: why do you the most often do a black primer before white stains, rather than just a black pre-shading on the lines ?

Thanks.Well I dont like the look of thr black pre shading panel lines.This is much faster and I can.achieve better controll and more effrcts in the end.The white mottling makes the surfsce look unevenly faded and you can varry the ammount of the effect with several layers of paint.

Phantom looks very fetching in this colour scheme.This is the old Esci kit I think? Looks good for its age. As a matter of interest for how long after 79 Revolution did the Iranian's still use US munitions ?
