That punch was pathetic, arm is supposed stay close to body as it extends straight to target , shoulders remain relaxed , hips twist to give speed and and power , the fist turns from palm up to palm down just before striking. As 'black belt' this should be autonomic. This guy is so fake . He disgraces all true black belt practitioners

For those saying board breaking isnt a sign of a mcdojo, its not that these guys are demonstrating board breaking, its the fact that they are doing breaks that are simple and not very hard. You can just tell from their mannerisms and technique and even the stances that they are not serious in their discipline.

@@cameronwalker4691 physics. If a board is 12inches by 12inches (30cm X 30cm) and you break it in half so that it is now 12x6 (30x15) the difficulty of breaking increases by a factor of 2. Not to mention you now have a smaller surface area to hit and if you try to break against the grain you will fail every time. The "fake" boards used for most demos (especially taekwondo demos) are easy to spot because they will break into 3 parts instead of in half. A real board that has not been tampered with will always break in half ( or very close to it).

I started out in boxing and later began training in other martial arts. Yes, I view boxing as a martial art (a fighting style) and not a sport. When only a couple minutes of unflattering video material handpicked by someone for the purpose of leading others toward a preset conclusion is presented, is that fair and objective? I would have to see more video evidence than was offered here before deciding whether a school of martial arts is a McDojo or not. A board breaking demo by itself doesn't qualify a school as a McDojo. I have friends in Kyokushin, Shotokan and Muay Thai who also demonstrate breaking on occasion. In order to be fair, shouldn't you also present other clips of how this school operates; floor and speed drills, pad and heavy bag work, contact sparring and forms? Then you would be providing much more information which people could use to reach their own conclusions. I would agree that in this country martial arts in general have been toned down and thinned out in order to broaden appeal. Have standards slipped? Yes. Are belts sometimes handed out like candy? Yes. But you can't blame all of it on unqualified or unscrupulous money - motivated instructors. When I was studying, if someone broke a toe or a finger in a match or at a tournament, they taped it up and jumped right back in. People had a different attitude toward training. Today they would sue the school for damages. Insurance costs associated with running a school can be ridiculously high. This has prompted many instructors to set up a curriculum which minimizes the risk of injury. My advice before joining any school is to check it out thoroughly. Also check yourself. What is your attitude toward training? Your own attitude in training is the dividing line between 'soft serve' and 'hard core'....

To even reach black belt (at least in my school of training), you must perform all of the skills learned in every previous belt. I believe that includes the board breaks. By the time you’re black belt I’d believe you should be capable of breaking a board, as you have done it previously.

Board breaking is deceptively easy. Back in the day, I used to do demos. This was in the early 90’s about the time I got my 1st dan. We used to take the board and flick it in the air and I’d do a jumping reverse roundhouse and break it w/out it even being held. Tho on occasion I’d hit one bad and launch it at the goddamn audience lol.

Nothing new, there was a chain of karate clubs in England 30 years ago that used to advertise all over the papers and in phone directories. I joined and realised after a few months it was mostly about making money for the sensei and the style was weak and useless. Sadly the club had a monopoly in the local area and it wasn't until years later someone else set up a new club.
