What a treat to see this after a simple search. Watching McCoy's lightening fingers is nice. So many cool licks. I have loved this man's music since I discovered him the winter of 75-76 when I was a young ski bum in Aspen. I had then borrowed his recent release "Fly with the Wind". Decades later, early 1990s, I finally saw him perform live in a club in Portland, Maine. I met him a bit before the show in the gents where he was seemingly trying to cool his hands under cold water, as opposed to washing them. His trio's show then was brilliant. I felt I had had a close brush with a jazz god, still feel that way. Peace.

Mcoy tyner is a definer of Jazz Piano, cut my teeth on "Utopia" he is a master of the piano and has brought so much to the Jazz world, his keyboard work reaches deep into my soul. Treasure him while you can, what an amazing musician! Michael brecker is top notch, wish I could have been there in person to experience these folks first hand!

I´ve seen McCoy just once in Munich, Germany. I was most surprised by his modesty, depth and wormth of his sound, distinctive and well balanced. Once he said "....The group functioned primarily as a closed unit. If I were to extract and analyze my role in it, all I can really say was that it was that of an orchestra....". That´s him, is´nt it?- Thanks to you, McCoy.

Yeah, I love that left hand, it's forceful they say because he's a lefty and seems, unlike most pianists, to raise his left high and strike chords with more percussive force. I guess that's the kind of thing that Chick Corea really liked about his playing. He builds these cathedrals of sound in his left in a really maximalist way that I've always dug. He learned to play that hard too just because with Trane, he had to contend with the sheer fury of Elvin Jones' drumming, because Jones was a very up-front drummer who would often drown out everything with the force of his playing. Elvin Jones is also a really great writer, wow, have you heard his "Tender Moments" album, with "Man from Tanganyika"? You can hear his left-hand voices in the ensemble, which is something you also hear on "Africa/Brass", even though supposedly Trane hired Dolphy to do the arrangements, I think Tyner's voicings went into th voicing of the ensembles there. Amazing music, ALL of that brilliant 60s Blue Note and Impulse stuff. Tyner's definitely got "elegant force".
