Thats not a logic to messi is better. Messi is the best DRIBBLER of all time. Not the best PLAYER. You should realize that everyone doesn't waste time showing how to cut through players with the ball but what matters is that Mbappe is stats wise above than Messi at 23. Two a a kind. Maradona had the same talent, but had just about 2 years on that level, because of his lack of a professional mindset. That's why Messi is the Goat. About Mbappe, I'm not even sure his future Ballon'dors are safe, if Haaland maybe pulls of a 40 goal season in the world's strongest league. Of course Mbappe has better technique, but Halland is an unstoppable force. Prime Ronaldo vs. prime Messi was a league off it's own. I would Mbappé rather compare to prime Henry. He could surpass him, but never Messi or Ronaldo and not even Ronaldinho, who was the closest in his prime days to Messi/Ronaldo/Maradona-Level.

Messi is the only player who can fool his own shadow. He became the GOAT years before the World Cup.

People forget this version of Messi. He was perpetual motion. Never walked. Was first to win the ball back. And every time he got the ball he dribbled by several players. He was amazing. As he got older he was still amazing on the ball but did less off the ball and became an incredible goal machine. The version of him now is still the GOAT but he has to pick and choose his moments due to his age. Spends a lot of time walking to maintain energy. The younger/best version of Messi was miles ahead of Mbappe and anyone else outside of probably Maradona and Brazil Ronaldo(b4 his injury)... .Messi for me tho is the GOAT. What a player. My fav version of him was probably just before he became a goal machine. When he was that long haired winger who constantly dribbled by everyone and worked his socks off to get the ball back. So much fun to watch. Around when he got the Getafe goal. His whole career has been an absolute football joy to watch tho. So lucky to have lived thru it.

Messi went through all the versions of an attacking player through his career. He went from being a ridiculous goal scorer to being an alien-like playmaker. There are some great players in this generation like Lewandowski or KDB, but prime Messi could play like both of them at the same time. He was so good with the ball that it looked like he invented football and mastered all of its skills. He is the most complete player to ever live, not only because he was one of if not the best at what he did, but also because he could do just about everything.

@John Titor yea no need to make him bigger than he is (he's big enough). 2008-2009 was his break-out season. Mbappe was arguably a better teenage player. He had 39 goals in 2018/2019, won a league title with Monaco (and reach SF) and won a WC. However, last season (4 years later), he still had 39 goals. Messi went from 17 to 38 to 47 to 53 to 73, and he had that while playing more as a playmaker than as a striker/finisher.

Mbappe is a sprinter, a great runner, a goalscorer machine, he's also skillfull, but if we try to camparing him with messi at the same age. We all know who the better player is. Messi is not just a great goalscrorer, he is a runner with ball on his feet, the master of dribbling, yet he is skillfull as we know, a genius playmaker, amount of his assist showing how unselfish he is as a player inside the box. I can't compare him with any other player anymore, watching him all along is enough for me to admire him as a GOAT. I'll enjoy watching some new names like mbappe, haaland, pedri, vinicus, nunez, but besides that, i'll spend more of my time watching messi spend the rest of his great career.

People who watched him since his debut knew that he is something spezial. And over the years he keeps improving and improving and in my mind, there never was a debate. Crazy thing is that due to recency bias, it's like people just choose to forget what this Messi did, what he was doing at the time. Gary Neville for example, he didn't just call Messi the best of the time, he called him the best there has ever been, he said something like "We shouldn't be afraid to say what we're seeing with our own eyes. I think he's the best ever". Experiencing Messi, in that moment, for the first time seeing everything that he did evoked the truest feelings. But as with everything, too much of most things tend to be bad, people become desensitized to things. Messi could jink past 2 - 3 players now, and they'd just go, meh, it's Messi. When the insane becomes the expected indeed.

Some may say Messi is at same level as maradona and pele, because of wc achievement or lack of. but nobody at 23 years old in the history comes even close to Messi at 23 years old.

I was fortunate to watch him play every week 2009 - 2012, I'd watch the games with my grandfather & he'd tell me this young Messi is the greatest he has ever seen.. I was 13 yrs old then & did not know Messi but the moment I first watched him play I was obsessed with his style.. in awe of his genius. He's a majestic player. I'm a Liverpool fan but there were times I'd choose to watch Barca over my team Liverpool because I simply had to watch Leo play.. I'm from England but I hope Argentina lift the WC.. because to me, Messi is bigger than football. The world owes him the WC for all of the magic he has given us over the years.. he truly deserves it.
