It's not torque steer, it's lane change assist.

The i30 N (hatch, sedan, fastback) and Sonata N Line are the modern day FWD torque steer monsters. Honda Civic Type R has been around for a millenia so everyone knows what that is. Mazda advertised the heck out of this when they first dropped, 2.3L turbo with 190kW and 380Nm doing 0-100 in 6.1 secs.
@blann65
Жыл бұрын
6.1 with 190kw wasn't bad back in the day. That was considered insanely fast when it first came out but my current car with 153kw does 0-100 in 6.3 seconds and that is very very fast considering it only has 153kw and 280nm. Can't deny the Hyundai hot hatches are fast and have a lot of torque steer but these days torque steers is managed a lot better by all the diffs and suspension kits these cars come out of the factory with.

👀 damn got a good one I guess 😅
Mazda and Ford shared the same 2.3 litre engine in that time. I recently sold my MPS after having owned it for 15 years with no reliability issues. They are actually quite reliable. Honestly, it's an underrated car that is almost 20 years old, so it's no more of a time bomb than any other turbo 4 getting to that age. Thanks for the review.

This is a 100% Mazda engine and was never fitted in this form to any Ford (or any other brand) vehicle. The newest Ecoboost engines are based on this because somehow ford managed to get all the patents on this engine when they divorced back in 2010-2012, based on the fact that it was built on the Duratec block template. However, the only parts that fit from the Ecoboost to 2.3DISI-T are the crankshaft (without the balance shaft though) and the oil pump (and with some clever mix of parts also some timing parts).

I have seen a substantial amount of both the Mazda 3 and 6 MPS for sale that either require a rebuild or have had an engine rebuild. Perhaps standard they may be ok however they don't take kindly to modification, and certainly not as robust as the 90's JDM era engines.
@mituc
Жыл бұрын
@@gavinr9107 That is because of the factory recommended oil which was chosen to get the best emissions possible. They recommended the same oil in the RX8s, as well as 1.3-2.5 NA engines. At least the 2.3DISI-Ts held better than the rotaries with that joke of an oil...

@@mituc I forget what oil they recommend in the TSB? My stock block 6 has all the bolt ons besides mani's, with a hdi gt2 front mount, dm catch can, trilogy mounts and TD05. I run Motul Xcess 5w-40 since I'm catless. Heard its a good choice and stopped my p0012 timing over retarded issues so far. that code was plaguing me after i had this new engine installed but now it seems good.

Good to hear!
Had one of these myself with basically everything i could do besides the port injection and jmf manifold like this one. Mine was making around 230fwkw. Alot of people will hate on fwd but with how raw these feel once modded they'll 100% bring a smile to your face. These are imo a proper drivers car, you have to physically drive the thing and not just sunday drive it lol. Kudos to the owner and another wicked review man, good to see alot of females cars getting featured!

About time you did an mps drive its the little Barra
Ive got a fleet of AU's and a fleet od MPS's thete truly awesome cars
I have the same feeling in my ST on E30 - stock turbo so the torque is just ridiculous. Baby turbo though it's roughly 300fwhp and 570nm. I used to have an upgraded turbo 6MPS with 328awhp, that was good fun, and a good sleeper to boot
You can fix the torque steer by using the gen 2 BL crossmember and lower control arms and 3 bolt steering rack
I have a BK Mps also! My bf has a XR6T mate has a Maloo and they jump at the chance to take the Mazdrdy for a drive because it's so fun 🎉
Great review, really like these cars, I love the sleeper aspect of the Gen1's, the gen2 is a cool car too but I don't love the styling!

There are a fair few around. I think you probably just dont see them because they sorta hide as a hatch. I remember when i was a mechanic, a customer had one and i took it for a road test. First generation, had it tuned and so on, on stock wheels and tyres. Thirds gear when the boost came on, it almost pulled me over two lanes of traffic. They were a pretty potent car stock.
Not many people know about using the 2.5 Bottem end and using the turbo diesel gearbox , theyll do 350km/h with 450hp to push it . Ive got a fleet of them .
Friend had one just stock. But felt fast in the back seat. Be crazy thing. Thanx
I have 2 of these cars, a daily driver, sitting at around 240-250kw atw and a fully built track car, sitting at 420-430kw atw on pump gas and just over 500kw atw on e85. To be honest, the daily driver is more fun and still really fast. The track car is scary and too much for New Zealand roads😂
@RossReviewsau

That’s insane! What a handful that must be mare

I might put a turbo in my vz ss
I'm guessing the pod filter is for noise only. Why not finish it off with heat deflection!? Massive heat sink factor right there
As an owner of one of these, I will agree about the torque steer😂. Mine is 400whp so I’m sure it will only get worse as the power grows
