MAZDA 618 THE ROAD TO ROTARY

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here is the build montage for my 1972 Mazda 618 coupe, It's come from Idaho USA to New Zealand and has since has a rotary engine conversion and a decent rebuild. I know the music is repetitive...I couldn't find free music easily to overlay.
I'm new to editing also so I'm sure I will get better with some more edits under my belt.
Cheers

Thanks mate - the only but not rebuilt was the gearbox and it needed a polished alternator. Every other part was new or reconditioned.

Love the patina. Too many cars get restored but there's something nice about just a mechanically sound resto.

That is very, very cool! 👌👍 I love how it has been left with the patina -- it doesn't always work but it really suits that car for some reason -- and the steelies and whitewalls are a nice touch. Any general tips on shipping / importing? Looking to bring my Datto 620 back to NZ end of the year. Also on the off chance this is still on the market then I'd love to take a look with a view to buying.

Hey mate - cheers. I imported it 2012 so the prices have gone up since then. Ensure you get the paperwork ownership titles etc and double check with the country you want to import to so that you have the correct docs. Don’t bother cleaning it as MAF will clean regardless and charge you.

Kiwi As bro. Only in NZ would a 1.8 be described as a 'big block' but I know what you mean there. A lot of work but a totally awesome REsult.

@@rivalrotary I miss seeing all the rotors back home. 616' is even rarer than a Rx-2 over here in UK. Rx-2 5 licensed and 3 off road. 616 2 licensed and 1 off road. I'm surprised that there's even 5 Rx-2's here. I've only ever seen 2 in about 15 years and those both belong to the same guy!

Dave Mackay yea I lived in London for 6 years. Mate exported an RX2 Sedan. I has a s2 RX7 and S1 RX4 Sedan too. One RX3 coupe came back here too but now is in Aus I think.

@@rivalrotary So many years ago.. Ramon's Rx-2 and Hayden's Rx-3 IIRC. Is there a Southern Hemisphere branch of EXILE? I had a S1 Rx-4 coupe back in day. Mid 80's I think. A couple Rx-3 coupes before that. And a sweet S5 turbo a few years before I left for London.

Dave Mackay that’s them Dave. I’m sure I’ve met you too over there “Kiwi Dave” rings a bell haha. There are a few groups here in NZ but rotary folk are pretty chilled these days and are always up for a cruise etc.

Impressive bro! I can only imagine how much blood sweat n tears were spilt on this project, but well worth it in the end. I noticed you didn't put the RX2 lights in the rear? Did you decide to leave it that way? Looks good enough, engine sounds tough, did you port match it?

Cheers mate - I was always going to put the Rx2 rear end in however I was going to wait until I painted it. It’s now sold and the new owners have the RX2 rear ended in. Looks killer

@@rivalrotary Hello. I am 67, and looked at this video. Boy, that was a monumental task ! I never had patience for these kind of things, but really admire and have in awe, persons who can accomplish these things. The details you went through !!!!! I salute you Sir ! In my country we had the 616 manual four-door, and a couple of coupes. We later got the Rx2 four door manual , with round lights. Then we got the 2nd gen. 616 manual four-door, and 2nd gen. RX2 4-door model in manual and auto. Both had the two rear big lights with the grey garnish. The Rx2 had the Rotary Engine emblem. The 2nd Gen. 616 manual four-door was very popular, especially as taxis. I had the 2nd Gen 4-door Auto for some time. I have never seen a 618, nor a Rotary Coupe. I remember in 1979 I visited the USA and was shocked to see a Rotary Pickup ! Seeing a Rx3 or Rx4 was extremely rare in this small country ! None of these vehicles above came with AC. Global warming was not yet to be so we drove with open windows. A problem we Rotary drivers had was......anytime you overtook a 616, and checked your rearview mirror a few seconds after, he was now on your tail. He heard the buzz of the Rotary. 616 drivers always wanted to prove that their cars could run a Rotary !! Poor handlers, camber problems, fumes in the car ! Thank you very much. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

@@ramishrambarran3998 cheers mate. It couldn’t have done it without epic friends. It’s fun and I don’t think I’d embark on such a build again. But it’s surprising what can be done even if you think that you can’t do it.
